Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

It's definitely odd that we've made a point of issuing a "Not For Sale" notice on the official website.

As I've just read though, it'd take 5 mins for Torres or his agent to issue a statement saying he's not leaving. If that statement was made, this would all go away so surely it makes sense for Liverpool to get Torres or his agent to speak up.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

common lads Torres means to this club more than just being player...they say that no player is biger than a club..but there is some players that are the main players of club that are not for sale, at least not for 35 milion pounds.. It´s always the same, Real,Inter,Chelsea wanted Gerrard, United,Arsenal wanted Reina, whole europe wants Torres but that dont mean he will go.. LFC have new owners and they are not stupid, they are making lot´s of money having Torres and other mentioned players at club, they are the image of club, they sell shirts, they are the ones that make people watch the game and most of all if they want to build for future, this players are most important to other players that are thinking of joining that they will play with world class players.. for me this whole story is just bullshit, i dont belive any word about Torres want Liverpool to make a deal...

looking forward to Chelsea match, hope he scores 1 or two...against them

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I'm pretty sure Torres will stay at Liverpool (ouch, that is ominous for you guys...).
But i've read a couple of very naïve things in the previous posts:

- he said that he will not leave: i would not like to serve dinner to all the players who claimed this and left their clubs after those statements.

- he genuinely cares for the fans: English fans will never learn...Torres (maybe) genuïnely cares for the fans of Atletico Madrid, did this stop him from leaving the club. Those guys are professional players...they have every right to leave for a better club, salary or whatever other reason. They are enployees like we all are.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Torres said he is professional and that he will not go before his contract expires here.. at least he dont want to leave before that...

take this article...are there any quotes? its all bullshit, Kenny gave lads day off and he is probably somewhere spending time with his family...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jan/28/fernando-torres-chelsea-transfer-liverpool

Liverpool fans panic about this ? While the player interviews he always talks that he want to stay, he said this in August, while with Roy, he said this after Kenny was apointed..

I agree...it does not make sense that now he wants to leave when
he just said weeks ago he will honor his contract...just after Roy
got sacked.....
But sky sports and guardian are both reporting he is open to leaving...

I really feel FSG should make some big signing like Suarez....
I still see we are selling players....and not one signing has been made.

The only way to stop these silly rumors is if we buy a big signing
that will help Torres achieve his goals here at LFC....

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Losing Torres would be a huge blow. His is a one man scoring machine - and the way you've been set up for the past 3 seasons requires that. Maybe under Daglish that'll change, but he's one of about 3 strikers in world football that can play that role successfully.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Dalglish could have other plans about how he wants us to play, and our striking options are limited now so he's forced to play Torres in that role.

Which also leads to, why sell Torres now? If we sell him and get X amount of money, it's so late in the window that we'd have no time to find a replacement for the rest of the season.

IF it's true that he wants to speak to Chelsea, then let him. And if he isn't totally committed to Liverpool then we'll find someone who is. Whether we'll find a player as good as Torres is at his best is another story, but I'd rather we had a team of players totally committed to working for each other and for Liverpool.

Remember....with Dalglish in charge.....Ian Rush left for Juventus..
and I was depressed....but then what happened next season...
we won the title and were unbeaten for 28 or 29 games...
playing some of the best attacking football in years..with Barnes,
Beardsley and Aldridge, Houghton...

So if Torres does leave....give us 50million...and we can rebuild
with Kenny in charge.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Im pessimistic about this Torres transfer. According to TheGuardian, which is a pretty reliable source, last summer he wanted to leave and he didnt because of promises of new owners and investment (which happened and the investment is going to take place) but he put in his contract a 50m realease clause.
So, if Chelsea place an offer of 50m we have to accept it.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

If Chelsea give us 50m we will accept it... but it won´t happen this January ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Torres is a great player and one of the five best FW's of the world, but the problem is that he is injury prone and has played perhaps more than any other player: with the Spanish national team he hasn't had decent summer rest and English teams play more than other teams.

If Torres stays, Liverpool should buy one or two other strikers, then Torres can rest now and then and he will have less injuries.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

So then, two questions.

1. Where is he gonna fit in? Torres doesn't seem to like playing with another forward, but liked playing with Gerrard behind him, stick Suarez in the role Gerrard had in 08/09?

2. Given the recent lack of players transforming their Dutch scoring exploits to good form in the Prem (Alves, Kezman, Kuyt), do we think Suarez will flop as well?

He was obviously on fire last season, looked pretty good at the World Cup, but hasn't performed this year and has been pretty awful in the Champions League against decent teams, so it's hard to tell.

Kuyt has played most of his Liverpool games in right midfield and is a very unfair comparison to judge against playing as a striker in Holland.

Van Nistelrooy wasn't a bad player in the Premier League.

1.
------------- Reina ---------------

Kelly -- Skrtel -- Agger -- Johnson

------------ Poulsen -------------

--- Meireles ----- Lucas ---------

-------- Gerrard -------- Suarez -

------------- Torres -------------

2. You forgot to mention flops as Bergkamp, Van Persie, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Ruud Van Nistelrooy..

only games will prove how he does, he is obviously quality player and he will strenght out squad imo.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

It's either great news that we have "signed" him...

Or Liverpool have raised their bid by nearly 10mil as they know Torres is off...

@ Matherto,

I'm not sure anyone see's Suarez as a goalpoacher. He plays deeper and tries to create something, atleast that is my impression of him. Would expect him to take positions like Kuyt and Maxi more then replace Torres.

So;

----------Reina---------
Kelly--Skrtel--Agger--Johnson
-----------Lucas------------
Kuyt--Meireles--Gerrard-Suarez
----------Torres------------

And when Torres doesn't play he can push up higher with Ngog, or maybe lead the line himself (don't know him well enough tbh). From what I saw at the world cup he is more a player that roams and comes in from the wings then on the shoulder of the last man.

Yup...but he does score quite a lot for someone who is not a centre forward..

Funny...I was thinking of the same...that if Torres is leaving..that is
why they have got Suarez...
But I read somewhere that Suarez said he would not join if Torres left...

One thing I feel...we should pay 8-10 million for Charlie Adam....
he is the type of playmaker we need.....
I dont think we can sign too many 20m+ players....

If we can get a decent Centre-back to partner Agger....and maybe one
winger we will be all set.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

if torres does not go this window he will go next window and thats a nap!
suarez in to ease the pain they dont want to piss the fans off so they lay down a sweetener very apt!

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

i think suarez is a tevez like player!
he doesn't give up easy like torres
so maybe its for the best. bye bye torres lets hope they can get 60 million for yer!

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Not sure Torres will want to leave as much now. His point all along has been that he wants to stay at Liverpool but needs to see some intent that we're going to improve and make some big signings.

Signing a player with a proven goalscoring record, who had a good World Cup and is known worldwide, and being the second most expensive Liverpool signing behind Torres himself ... well, I expect that's a fair statement of intent. And if that's not enough, well he's welcome to go. Would love to see a Torres & Suarez partnership flourish though :)

Kuyt played up front at first though, and then Rafa realised he was shit so shunted him out to the right.

Van Nistelrooy wasn't a bad player in the Premier League.

Hence why I said recent meaning the last few that have tried. Suppose Van Persie has worked out well (he is world class) but the last bunch after Ruud have been awful apart from him.

Interesting people talking about him not being a goal poacher and playing him alongside Gerrard when he scored 47 goals last season with another three playing as a striker alongside Forlan (who did the dropping deep) at the WC...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

well that would be strainge question to ask...as already said, Kuyt was CF in Feyenoord, and played almost as RM in Liverpool or right wing.. it´s up to any player to prove himself.. no matter what league he played before..

Kuyt came to Liverpool and played on right wing more defensive as true CF, he is definetly not shit player.. He scored 12 goals his first season while we played Crouch up front.. we also had Bellamy playing as SS or LW then..
