Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes a good performance.... all 3 goals were good..
Babel had a terrific match....superb goal...full of running.
Ngog did well ..had a part in 2 goals..

Same here Dags..... put Gerrard on the bench.....
we play so much more like a team without him.
Lucas and Meireles are looking good in the middle...

If we can put Johnson on the right wing and have Kelly
as right back...it would be good..
Kuty for me is still a out of position...and does not add
much guile down the right.

Villa were terrible in the first half....similar to West Ham.
So a good easy win.....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Won't happen, doesn't fit with Henry's moneyball objective. He's too old, his wages would be ridiculous and we'd probably have to buy him as well. The complete opposite of moneyball.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's not good enough either, great as he is with the ball, its like playing with 10 men when you don't have it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Didn't i said that Liverpool don't need Gerrard (and Carragher)?
I hope Liverpool can sign a couple of high profile players.

tbf his stats from last season suggest otherwise: 43 games, 15 goals, 17 assists. Even this season he's made 4 appearances and got 3 assists. Not bad for someone who is finished.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Everytime I've seen Milan play, in the CL, he just strolls about in the final 3rd and makes something happen. Wouldn't expect him to be able to handle the prem's speed and getting the sh!t kicked out of him everytime he comes near the ball though. Rather Liverpool sign a young player and try and develop him.

Have to say I'm getting more and more impressed by Lucas. He's really improved his game, instead of stumbling about and always doing sideways/backpasses he seems to have bulked up and more often then not wins the ball now, and then when he does have possesion he's very tidy and forward thinking. Him and Meireles are looking like a good partnership, both are mobile and like to get forward whilst they are both defensive enough to keep a good balance. Now if only he could practice his shooting he might actually become a danger in attack.

@ Gerd, there was a stat a few seasons ago (when we still had Xabi and Masch) that the team had a higher succesrate without Gerrard in the team. Although that didn't take in to account which teams were played. I think it's a balance that needs to be found. With Xabi and Masch Gerrard was confident enough to let them do their thing and he would stay forward and try to change the game from there. However since Xabi left he has been trying to do too much, with the midfield not helping him, meaning the team has started to "just play it to him and see what he can do". Which has also left Torres isolated. Hopefully Lucas and Meireles can step up and not get "bullied" and tell the Gerrard to sod off and stay the up the pitch. I think they have enough passing in them to be able to work the play.

Re: Liverpool Thread

L&M have been superb in every aspect of doing the midfield job, with both having a part in defending as well as getting forward to support attacks. The problem with Gerrard, and I've said this many times, is that the team relies on him too much and feel that they need to give him the ball for us to do something.

If you look at games when Gerrard hasn't played, I'm betting it's a pretty good percentage of games won compared to games when he has played (although obviously he plays more often than not).

We play more as a team when Gerrard isn't there.

I still don't believe that Roy is the man to take Liverpool forwards but I have to admit that our play has gotten much better over the last couple of weeks.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Goes back to what a few of us have always said, Gerrard struggles in a midfield two, he's much better in a free role behind the striker.

Agree...he is not the typical central midfielder....but more of a gung-ho player who needs freedom to do his stuff....which sometimes works spectacularly and sometimes it fails...
His best season was in 08-09 with Alonso and Masch being a great
midfield partnership...that had steel and Alonso's playmaking...

If L & M can keep improving...then Gerrard could go back into the
hole.......
or we could even use him on the right side if we play 2 up front
....he does have a good
cross ...and can can come inside to join Torres if needed.
But I know he does not like the wings...so I guess he will play in
the middle with Lucas dropping to the bench.

Re: Liverpool Thread

More nonsense from Woy:

'Among those Hodgson feels have raised their game over recent weeks are Argentine wide-man Maxi Rodriguez

He said: "Maxi Rodriguez is a very intelligent player. Despite the fact I do not speak Spanish and he doesn't speak that much English, we've always had a good understanding together.'

I don't know whether to pity the guy or laugh my ass off...:CONFUSE:

Re: Liverpool Thread

It seems your boy Rafa is close to getting the sack. Take him back?

I'd have him back, sure. I feel he deserves a better chance with the club he loves and a chairman/group that will back him with the necessary funds rather than having to make profits each transfer window.

If he can't get us success with support from Henry and co, then fair enough and we can make a proper judgement. But until then, I'd be happy for him to come back.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So Roy says 'despite our difficulties with the language barrier, maxi is playing as well as if ever has for this club and i'm pleased with him.' and you.re going to spin that into a bad thing? Wow.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wanted to ask the same question as you jumbo.
They say football is a universal languages. Two people who understand this universal language don't need to speak the same language.
Maxi is a seasoned professional player and i guess he needs litle explanation. Besides that Maxi is Argentinian and Argentinian players generally have a very good tactical understanding of the game. I don't really see the problem.

Noboody in the team understands the scouse that Carragher talks and he is supposed to be a leader...that causes no problem whatsoever with the fans (Saint Carragher)...but that is Carragher and this was the much maligned Roy, who is doing a fine job.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Don't see the issue either, and Maxi is playing a lot better these days. Although the idea of them talking gives an amusing image in my head;

Roy: Okidoki....uuh what were we talking about?
Maxi: Shooto...golo, yes?
Roy: Where's my werthers?
Maxi: Passi yes?
Roy: Oh wait they are in my pocket...
Maxi: So runni to goalie with Ngogi?
Roy: Yep, that's great Joe. Keep up the good work. Between us, that bloody Maxi has been rubbish, 5m signing on fee for injuries and a red card!
Maxi: Uuh, si boss
Roy: John W? Where? I can't see him...
Maxi: *shrugs*
Roy: Where's my werthers?

What I do wonder about is why the Argentine players refuse to learn the language? It's like they know they will be spending most of the time in Spain anyway so why bother. Tevez is another who has been here for a few years now and still doesn't speak the language.

Re: Liverpool Thread

@Tom_fairclough9 Thomas fairclough
Mate of mine, also son of an ex LFC player, works for N'zogbia's agency and there is talk of him signing for us in January.

Hmm.

Re: Liverpool Thread

N'zogbia is a very good player IMO. I'm not sure if he would be a good buy for Liverpool, but he's way to good to play for Wigan.

Re: Liverpool Thread

IMO it's only his attitude that's stopped him from playing for better clubs than he has, though lately he has seemed better in that regard.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's been rumoured to be signing for us for awhile now. Always thought he was good at Newcastle, and he has scored a decent amount of points in the fantasy league. Other then that I don't know much... :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

To be fair I don't think Roy's comments on Maxi are bad....

But I did not like him saying he was wary of Newcastle's new manager
effect....was he giving out the excuse already in case we lost ?

If we approach it like the Spurs game and try to go for the win
it will be great.

Rafa...looks like he may get sacked....pity it did not work out
at Inter....wonder where he will go next ? Back to Spain maybe?
Can't see him returning to Liverpool ? He probably will not work
with Comolli's influence...
Most fans will like him....but the media will slaughter him especially
now that Roy is getting better results.
Never know....strange things have happened.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't think Rafa is coming back.

Would like to see N'Zogbia but as mentioned, he does have a terrible attitude. I've seen a few Wigan games and he is very ball greedy, something we don't have, could be a good option.

Re: Liverpool Thread

N'Zogbia ? this players dont work for big teams , we had Kean more good than N'Zobia but he dont did nothing , we need big player and i think best we can have in forward will be Fernando Lorente , also Babel is great need to give more space and he will get back his form .....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Roy Hodgson says Christian Purslow used to advise on what players he should get rid of. "He is a big fan with strong opinions on the game."

RH: "I listened but made it clear I wasn't going to act on it."

Purslow handed Hodgson a list of players he wished to see depart Anfield after his appointment last summer. On the list were Ryan Babel, Maxi Rodriguez, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, David Ngog and Lucas.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I guess the pair of them just nod and point at the pitch a lot during tactical discussions...

Just shows how little you know about football then.

Maxi is an intelligent player who moves the ball well and gets into good positions.

If you think he hasn't been playing well recently well. If you also knew a little bit about football then you would also have known when he signed he never was or is an out and out winger.

More of an inside midfielder off either flank.

There's no pleasing some of the boo boys. No doubt one of the school get it into the box ASAP and pace and power over brain and skill.

He , Lucas and Meireles make a fluid midfield moving off each other and using their footballing brain.
