Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's not going to annoy anyone Gerd, we all think Liverpool have been playing crap since last season, and only the season before did they consistantly look good imo. I'm glad that sport1 (dutch Skysports) haven't got the EL as it means I don't have to watch them on the thursday. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hodgson also revealed he was offered Rafael van der Vaart in the summer and defended his decision not to sign the Dutch star, who has been such a revelation for Spurs.

"At the time we made the decision that this type of player was not our main profile," he said. "We had Steven Gerrard, Raul Meireles and Joe Cole so as good a player as he is, we would just be doubling up all the time on a certain style of player.

"When his name came up you have to be interested because he is such a good player, but you have to look at your squad and think 'what will I do with this one or that one?' because he is a specific type of player who plays off the centre-forward."

Lets just say we didnt buy Poulsen,Gerrard and Meirelles in centre with VDV behind Torres?Thank you Roy Hodgson, you senile twat!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Van Der Vaart is streets ahead of the overhyped Joe Cole......
says much about their assessment of players....

Reina has come out and said that fans should back Roy 100%....
but if we dont finish in the top 4, then top players will leave..
surely he is talking about himself....and maybe Torres.

Hodgson though has said that he thinks the reason Liverpool
dont win away games is maybe due to mentality of the players...
saying he tries to win games home and away.....
I think he has got this wrong...in that the record shows that
his teams including his swedish title winning Halmstads won
less games away....
but then again Liverpool were poor away from home even last season...
so there is a bit of truth about the mentality aspect

Re: Liverpool Thread

Unlucky to lose that. A combination of all kinds of things really. Bad luck, bad decisions by players (Ngog with the handball from a freekick which shouldn't have even been a free kick, Torres and Maxi not shooting when they should've), poor ref (yellows for Meireles and Johnson, who's foul was exactly the same as the Ekoto challenge on Kuyt in the area but nothing given at all) and Konchesky being as useful as a chocolate teacup.

Good to see us attacking so much though, and if we're going to lose then I'd rather we did while trying to get the win. Good on Roy for not having us sit back away from home like he usually does, his tactics were spot on today.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres and especially Maxi pissed me off :@
Maxi had 2 ideal chances in the 1st half and one on the 2nd , torres also had one great chance.

I still can't believe that we lost this match , I got the feeling that we had the match won after the 1st half :S

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good performace, game could have gone either way with two balls cleared off the line. Some poor individual decisions, and a crap ref, didn't help. Maxi obviously, missed Torres' chance, and Konchesky not just kicking him out of the ground FFS! Ref was shit aswell, wasn't even a penalty as on-the-line isn't inside...but Ngog made it easy for him, how big does he think his head is!? Cover your face, don't have your arms from your wrist up above you head!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seriously Atkinson needs to be fucked off.

I've honestly not seen a more bent official in charge of us. He hates us. How did we get 5 bookings today? Unbelievable.

Re: Liverpool Thread

good performance in patches....in general good passing and link up play...but our lack of pace killed us.....
in general we lack pacy tricky players...
note both goals conceded
were due to pacy runs by modric and lennon.....

i was pleasantly surprised by Hodgson's tactics....till he got
on Aurelio......again a lack of pace...
Not sure why Babel or Jova were not given a chance ....
they are quicker than what we had out there.

Good performance...but still there are issues...

Re: Liverpool Thread

pleased with performance, draw would have been more better, but chances like we had just need to be taken...

Atkinson was disgrace.. but i doubt anyone will do anything about this...

Hopefully in January we will buy a proper Left back and world class striker..

Re: Liverpool Thread

"we"

one of your 20 or 30 teams won

You can laugh as much as you want, but i'm not the frustrated one...

And now a response to your reaction.

First of all we all know damn well that you exagerate. Secondly, why being so patronizing? Is supporting one club so much better than having sympathy for a couple of clubs in different competitions? Just let everybody enjoy his football the way he likes. I also supported Spurs when they were last just before Redknapp took over...

I know you as a sensible person, just admit that you are pissed off you lost against a team you consider a lesser team, but which in fact is better at the moment. I can understand that this hurts for fans who are used to win and are now loosing.

My response that "we" won was not meant to hurt any feelings (which it strangely did) but was merely pointing out the obvious: you can complain as much as you want about the refs and undeserved victories, in the end the 3 points are for Spurs and that is what counts.

About the refs: don't forget that they always advantage the bigger clubs. Two years ago certain decisions would have gone Liverpool's way, not anymore. But times will change. We all know damn well that soon Liverpool will be bigger than Spurs (in fact Liverpool was always bigger than Spurs). Meanwhile you guys will have to learn to loose with grace.

If reply to bitter rivals did hurt some feelings: i'm sorry. This was never meant to be.

PS: last week Arsenal also lost from Spurs, go and take a look in the Arsenal thread, their reaction was pure class. And this despite the fact that they are supposed to be Spurs' arch rivals.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Carragher out for four weeks apparantly. And Roy reckons we're short of centre-backs. Despite us also having Kyrgiakos, Wilson and Kelly who can step into the CB slot alongside Skrtel.

Re: Liverpool Thread

David Pleat? Neutral?

Weren't you supposed to ignore me?
It is possible that Pleat is not neutral, but maybe you could argue why...this post is typical for the way you "discuss"...now you will reply that it ain't no use to discuss with me.

I know that Pleat used to be a Spurs manager..but why couldn't he be neutral? So if Hansen or Lawrenson are pundits with MOTD, they can't be neutral? I think lots of people are intelligent enough to be neutral even if apparently they have (had) links with a certain club.

Let's give an example (because you see that is the way one is supposed to discuss, with argumenst and examples).

Johan Cruijff: biggest icon of both Ajax and Barcelona (oops bad example, this guy loves TWO clubs...he has no right to speak). One might assume that Cruijff loves both clubs. But he is also one of the fiercest critics of both Ajax and Barcelona. So if Barcelona would win the classico this evening and Cruijff would say that they deserved to win...would he be talking bullshit? I don't think so. I think these people have more that enough football knowledge to be taken serious.

You see fans or people who have worked for a club as something very medieval: once attached always attached. They become some sort of serves. Thinking that is underestimating people hugely.

To end this post on a positive note: it is rather refreshing that Hodgson isn't blamed for this defeat...that's already a big step forward. And i do think Liverpool played a very good match (and that is the second consecutive good match...West Ham also proved this weekend that they aren't that bad).

Re: Liverpool Thread

I find that Pleat post offensive Gerd! It's nothing more then Pleat summing up what happend in the game and getting paid as if it is some insight! ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

In Pleat's defence, (never thought i'd say that) his tactic columns offer much better insight than the clowns on MOTD do, though thats not saying much.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's nothing more than that, but it puts certain things that were said in this thread (about that match) in perspective. I understand that people don't like a pundit or that they think he is talking nonsense...but saying that this or that pundit is biased because he used to work for a certain club is nonsense IMO...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Pleat comes across as a senile old man when he commentates on live matches often calling players the wrong name (called Frank Lampard, Jamie Redknapp in the CL Final), pronouncing names totally wrong (Benayoun = Benny-noon), often rambles on about nothing in particular so I think that's where the bad reputation comes from. Infact I think he was so bad ITV eventually dropped him from their coverage. You know you're bad when even they won't employ you.

I get the feeling somebody helps with his stuff in the Guardian.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So with 15 games gone....we are now firmly in mid-table
level on pts with Newcastle, West Brom, Blackpool ....
7 pts off the top 4, with City and Spurs beginning to pull away
from us.

Our next 4 matches will take us to mid-way point of the League season.
- Villa (h)
- Newcastle (a)
- Fulham (h)
- blackpool(a)

Let's see how it goes...will we remain in mid-table trying to
get into the Europa league....or can we start fighting City and Spurs?

Re: Liverpool Thread

There aren't too many people who I don't respect at all in the footballing world but David Pleat is ONE!

I agree with what Jumbo said in his last post. He really does come across as an old senile man who often rambles about BS and gets even the basics wrong all too frequently!
