Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Makes a nice change for you to get players sent off after how rediculous last year was.

Seems the biggest effect Xabi had on your team was to get other players sent off :P

Re: Liverpool Thread

Could be (and probably is) a load of rubbish, but I'm hearing a press conference is being arranged for tomorrow at Anfield ...

Re: Liverpool Thread

8 wins and 7 losses and sitting on 8th spot doesn`t sound right if you ask me. Just shows how weird this season is turning out to be

Re: Liverpool Thread

haha thats great.

Sums up the collective mood of Liverpool fans at the moment. Slightly perplexed and fed up.

There will be no press conference IMO. 4th is still attainable. If more defeats come however, then not only do i fear a sacking, then I may well welcome it. Lots of sources suggesting the players are turning against Benitez

Re: Liverpool Thread

So luckily for us that rumour of a press conference Dags heard turned out to be a false alarm. (KRAP).

Also I saw a story that originated from a Liverpool fans forum saying that Gerrard, Masch and one other player who I cant remember now have had enough of Rafa's tenure and believe he has to go if you are to move on and sort this mess out. That would certainly go some way to explain El Starfish's performances lately as he's been dire but for Rafa to have lost the faith of the club captain surely pushes him even closer to the exit?? Not good at all, but it might not be true I suppose.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'd take anything "news" wise coming out of our club with a pinch of salt to be honest.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. And that 3rd player could well be Torres or Carra. The senior players have been absolutely crap this season, and it's not just form. There is hardly any will to fight to win.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well Torres has just come out and defended Benitez saying its the players that have to step up to the mark, play for each other and the fans and get on with it.

And I agree with him.

If these rumours about Gerrard and Carra slagging off the younger players etc are true then I'll be livid. With the exception of Torres and Mashcerano and Reina, no one looks bothered. Alot of people have said Benitez isnt bigger the club and we can carry on without him, but for me the same can be said of "player power" and the god complexes of certain players.

All I want is a little cohesion and togetherness, the team spirit of last season has gone, maybe Alonso played a big part in all this, but first a bit of fight from the players would be nice, and then even if that fails, then maybe we can turn our attention to a new manager.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I agree with what you are saying but sometimes certain players have just got to the point where they feel they can't succeed with the current manager and as soon as somebody new is brought it they feel revitalised and begin performing again. Whether this is right or wrong is irrelevant as it's a human factor coming in to play.

Look at Chelsea last season, they started brilliantly then something happened, Scolari made some decisions that didn't work for the best of the team like freezing Drogba out, the players weren't get along with his methods and they were playing poorly. Abramovic realised a change was needed, along comes his mate Hiddink and players like Malouda and Drogba are showing form we'd not seen for a while and playing with confidence and there's a significant improvement in the team.

It's good that Torres has backed Rafa and is rightly taking responsibility for his performances but whilst the players are at fault, Rafa is equally to blame in my opinion because at the end of the day it's his team and the buck stops with him. Players like Dossena, Babel, Voronin aren't duds, they're SEVERELY lacking in confidence and Rafa is hardly helping motivate them through this.

Carragher has always seemed like a bit of a cunt to me and it would not surprise me in the slightest if that's true about him slagging off the younger players. Same with Gerrard (different kind of cunt though ;)) ) but if it's these two that are the disruptive elements in the dressing room then this is a real problem for you because they are the only homegrown element in the first team (I know there's a few young lads coming through) and probably the most influential players you've got. If Rafa (or a new manager) gets rid of those two then it may solve the problem but I don't think the fans would be happy.

Bloody Yanks eh? :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

The Americans still have a major part in whatever mess is going on, regardless. Even Torres said it's very unlikely we'll be able to bring in new players because we haven't got the money.

I'm bored reading anything from Rafa this season though. EVERY single week, he says the exact same things and nothing ever changes. I accept that he wants to give off an air of confidence around himself and make out that the squad is confident ... but they're not. It's so clear that the players just aren't confident and no matter what Rafa says every week, we're going into the game with Wolves low on confidence as well.

In saying that, I'm not sure what else he can say apart from pulling up the players and say they need to pull their socks up or they're on their way out of the club. I guess something similar might be going on behind closed doors but I wonder if it might be a better strategy to go through the media and let the players know that they're not safe.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't know what to make of it IF Reds decide it's the game to lose in order to rid Rafa, but come on, it's the WOLVES. Not like Birmingham (they drawn Chelsea today!) or Portsmouth (they're bound to bounce back with new manager around). They have to win ... right?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Aquilani was very good. He made some mistakes, but it were because the pitch and the rain. He showed that he has talent, quality and can make a lot of difference.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Very impressed with Aquilani, showed great control and good creativity. Torres just seemed really frustrated with everything today but I'm sure his form will come. Not sure we'd have scored if Wolves didn't get a man sent off but I'll take a win anyway. Shit performance from the ref again too with him booking the wrong player.

Not really confident about facing Villa. We've won a few times this season and then went on to do rubbish again so we'll see.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Was bored so I watched this, Aquilani was good I thought but seems a bit off the pace but that'll come. I swear Gerrard was totally uninterested today apart from the goal, Nearly got sent off for diving in.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thoght Gerrard played a good match. It is clear that our problems is at the wings with Benayoun, Aurelio and Kuyt being rubbish for almost all this season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

for me its rafa that is rubbish... playing a side that play holdin football
yall are very lucky to get the win today and very lucky to not have loose it...rafa is a good coach, but liverpool need a change in tactical department...yall been playing the same football for the past 5 years...relaying on individual effort...to win games it work when it work but theres always an end to this kind of game , just look at chelsea...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Torres is playing injured looks about 60% at best, the individual game would work w/ a 100% fit player. I think there are few jaded players that are baby sitting injuries. No way could this squad slip this far back on paper they are stronger than any other.I can only imagine Rafa has his hands tied behind his back and only time will give`em the boost to climb back on
