Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maybe Arsenal at home. Can't see a win against either Everton or Blackburn. It's hard enough against those teams/style when we are playing well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Imo Pool's problem stems from the fact that your formation is absolutely perfect for your first XI. When you have all of Macherano, Gerrard, Torres and either Lucas or Aquilani (maybe) on the pitch it is great - soaks up pressure, remains compact and can still create goals even with minimal players committed forward.

However the whole thing hinges on having Torres playing at his best. He and Drogba remain the only two strikers in the league you can just leave alone up front, and they can still create goals. That allows Rafa to keep things tight all match, but doesn't stop you from scoring.

Games without Torres the whole game plan falls apart, because Ngog (who is pretty decent) can't do it himself, and so everyone gets pulled from their roles to move up to support.

Anyway, just my 2c. Also if you get Ruud I'll stop watching football.

Payback over Owen? I doubt it, Rafa's not that kind of guy, he just need to alter the formation a little so N'gog has somebody to fall on to. He's getting there.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kuyt was dreadful against City, but I thouht everyone was apart from Mascherano.

We needed a win against Brum to get us going again. Look at our fixtures now, we've already had some nasty ones including a long run of away games. On current form, I think Rafa will be sacked in January. Yes, blah blah, sacking halfway through the season isnt the Liverpool way, but we arent Liverpool FC at the moment.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Eh? Who are you then? :SS

I actually think its the other away around. you have had a few tough games but generally will face a tougher run of fixtures than you currently have.

Rafa won't get sacked as the Americans can't afford it. KRAP! :))

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's not like we don't have any right wingers to replace Kuyt, Benayoun or Gerrard. I think Kuyt can do with a rest, Rafa's been playing him all season.

Well, people talk about the Liverpool way. Liverpool FC has NEVER sacked a manager during a season in its entire history.

But now we're owned by a couple of cluless cold hearted business men. Thats what I mean.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Babel having a whinge and insinuating that Benitez has a grudge against him.

Bye,Bye Babel, oh and make sure you use the right side of the door when you leave instead of the left! :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Pity bout Babel. He was one of, if not the, hottest youth products in world football. Should have gone to Arsenal IMO...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Regardless of who the owners are, they don't have the money to get rid of Rafa, so he'll have to walk.

He wont walk because of results, he's too stubborn. The only way he'd walk is if he felt too restricted by the owners, and even that hasn't stopped him previously. He loves the club too much.

Babel needs to question himself and why, when he starts, he looks like he lacks any kind of work rate, commitment, confidence and passion for playing. That's why he doesn't play.

I'll take that as a little dig. If Babel cant keep up with the tempo we play at, there is no way on hell he'd fit into an Arsenal team!

I remember Ajax fans coming on LFC boards once we bought him, telling us we'd made a mistake as he doesnt have the right mentality for football at a big club. Seems they were right. They said he was pacy and strong, had a hard shot, often innacurate i might add, and that was about it.

Also Pako and Benitez fell out after Babel was signed, apparently it was a reccomendation from whats his name, the dutch fella that joined up in some sort of technical role.

Oh i do feel sorry for him though, he couldnt wear his blue boots, what a sacrifice you made to play for one of the most successful sides in world football.:FAIL:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not sure if Babel would have done well at Arsenal. One thing all their players have, irrespective of position, is a great first touch. Babel's is crap. Somewhat amusingly we seem to have the two least technical dutch players around.

Re: Liverpool Thread

think we`ll start to see more of this type of complaining everybody wants to play in this summer`s (WC)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah but it should matter. At the start of the season you were aiming to win the league and I imagine you were aiming to win the CL too, now you've got players saying it doesn't matter if you go out at the group stage and that playing in the Europa League is fine? I'd be fucking pissed off.

Yeah I agree, he should be motivating his team. He should be saying that they need to win and progress!! etc etc

When they have been knocked out then he should be saying that they can win the Europa league etc.

Re: Liverpool Thread

All that has been said before, all we hear every week from Rafa and the players is that it's all not over. I'd rather players were realistic, knowing that our qualification is out of our hands now.

Carragher isn't saying it "doesn't matter" if we go out, he said it's not the end of Liverpool. And it isn't.

If we go out, fine. We deserve to go out anyway with how we've played and I'm not bothered about winning the Europa League so I won't get much joy if we do go on to win that, it's the CL or nothing for me now.

If qualification was in our own hands, I'd then expect the players and manager to try motivating everyone. But that isn't the case and we're relying on Lyon now. Even if we win both of our games, it won't matter if Fiorentina win tonight.

And I'm pretty sure that Rafa/Carragher/Gerrard are motivating each other at training and in the dressing room later this evening. I don't think Rafa is exactly sitting there at training telling everyone to forget about the CL and take it easy.

Read the rest of the interview:

"The results of the other game is important to us but it's only important at the end of our game," added Carragher

"It doesn't make a difference what's going on through the game, we don't need to know. We just need to know we have to win our game and, at the end of the game, get the result.

"We always believe at this club that we can do special things. We have done it in the past and we know we can do it again."

I'm hoping to see Aquilani tonight. If he can't get some involvement (if not a start) against Debrecen then something is wrong.

Re: Liverpool Thread

My patience is wearing very fucking thin with Rafa now.

So we want to score another by bringing Benayoun on ... but we take one of our better goalscorers off the pitch ... and put the prolific scorer Kuyt up front. Genius.

Aquilani would be a great player to bring on here ... but he's STILL not fit enough to play as a sub semi-regularly. And he certainly wont get any playing time against Everton either. Turning into a good bench warmer, our £20m signing.

Fed up isn't even close to how I'm feeling about Liverpool right now.

Edit: Dossena? Aquilani for one minute? Riiiiight. Well played, Rafa :APPLAUD:
