Mascherano was motm for me, Lucas and Johnson were also outstanding but Masch won everything, his long passing was as good as Alonso's as well.

Can't believe we didn't win it, at one point we had almost 500 passes to their 90. Ridiculous game.

N'Gog's a cheating cunt, can't stand that at all. Couldn't bring myself to celebrate Gerrard scoring the penalty because i was pissed off over the dive. Embarrassing.

The ball will not drop for us in the box, we're getting no luck at all. Hopefully the rest between now and the Debreceni game will allow Gerrard, Aquilani and Torres to recover properly and turn this around.

Nobody in the current team is a legend yet. A legend is someone who gives their all consistently for the club and one you can rely on. Gerrard and possibly Carragher are the only two in the current team that are close, and they won't be proper legends until they retire.

to call a young player who has played less than 30 games a legend is ridiculous. Especially after they'd just blatantly cheated.

It's a shame Ngog dived, as he was having a really good game imo. Surprised he got the penalty, I could see it was a dive in realtime. Didn't need the replays.

And the result is partly down to bad luck, but also lacking quality. Lucas is really improving, he now turns forward whilst controlling the ball that is giving him that extra yard of space to pick passes out which is making a big difference. However trying to pass the ball into the net with 4 men on the line isn't the way to go, blast it head height and you have a far better chance of scoring. It's things like that which is making the difference atm. Oh and the defense being crap at setpieces. It's the same everytime now, overload the wingbacks and try to score from the knock-on. Im sure Ive seen about 5 or so goals being conceded like that.

You could see at one point that one of their largest players stood next to Insua on purpose and was signalling for the ball, knowing that he had a height advantage and he'd win the ball.

Obviously the ball went to him, and he won the ball.

:R1Oh the delicious irony - says someone living in St.Helens. I've seen a lot more "cheating" by Utd over the years than by Liverpool that's for sure.

However, it's this sort of immature comment that keeps a lot of us away from these threads - just cheap shots. :OOOH:

We know he cheated by diving but everyone does it! Drogba for instance, does it every chance he gets, which is infuriating as he has such talent besides.

I think the only reason United fans are harping on about penalties and dives is that we've pretty much lost the fabled rub of the green. I know Ronaldo got one penalty against Bolton I think last year, but we've had far fewer penalties over the past 2 seasons then Liverpool or Chelsea. I dug out the stats at some point last year, but can't be bothered to do so again. I think we only had 3 penalties at OT last year. Which, for a team that spends our time camped out in the oppositions penalty area, seems a bit iffy.

I honestly believe that Fergie has done himself no favours, however it's all the ABU fans that really deserve the credit. Years of exaggeration in the press about both the nature and magnitude of United penalties has resulted in us barely ever getting them anymore. Whereas Liverpool and Chelsea get one in every 4 games or so. And I'm sure that 99% of those are penalties, btw, just saying that refs seem fearful of awarding them against United these days.

Oh and Fergie's a moron for continuing to harp on about the refs. United fans don't want to hear it and it's hurting our team.

Apologies for the United-centric view, just trying to explain why such penalty awards are a bit of a sore spot for us.

Fuck it, Carsley showed intent. Not proud of it, but we've been far too nice a team anyways. Chelsea's full of filthy little cheats, and look where it's got them. Be nice to have someone who cared enough to win. Ngog was brilliant anyways.

I was quite embarrased with ngog one that, considerng i thought he had an excellent game (good movement, held it up well, and hes always lurking in space in the box), but I actually thought fuck it, our luck needed a change for the good (countered by Benayoun/Reira and Agger aggrevating old injuries)

The problem with that dive was the way he went down, Carsley lunged in widely and didnt get the man or ball, he was avoiding the tackle. Looked a pen from the game cam angle (incidently the refs position) Similar thing happen to Gerrard v Reo Coker.

Keep watching Cameron Jerome's goal again. I dont think he could ever do that again if he tried, he didnt even look like he put any power in the shot, looked like it was attached to a bit of string held by Ferguson in the away end. Ridiculous, nothing the team could have done about that.

A little dissapointed with the performance last night, still dont think there was enough drive, we seemed to take our foot off the gas at 2-2. Really baffled as to why Benayoun was out wide and Kuyt cenral. Benayoun is so more effective roaming around in the middle, it give him more options to confuse players and pick passes. He isnt strong or quick enough to keep cutting in the from either wing.

Lucas was great i thought until he tailed off later on, got a bit sloppy and wasnt exactly busting a gut when he had acres of space to support a team-mate under pressure.

Glenn Johnson was immense and did not deserve to have not got 3 points. Class, the only real player there who was busting a gut to get the three points

Agger's injured again, and I think we're going to need to buy a top class CB in Jan. I'm starting to think he will never recover from these problems and its such a shame because he is an amazing talent.

This season is rapidly turning into a train wreck, and the only positive has been the gametime for the youngsters and beating the mancs. Beginning to feel like Everton fans probably do when they get one over us.

Yes Abhi, I'm a big defender of Rafa, he has given me everything you can experience in football in a short space of time, with the exception of the league.

I still think hes overacheived considering the club upheveal and our financial disadvantage to the other clubs (United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, City) all have great wage bill upper limits, so they can afford to sit quality players on the bench). I do have my doubts about his selection of players out of their natural position.

The ONE thing that has always bugged me, has been set pieces, we used to be okay at defending them and totally ineffective at attacking them, but now we can't do both. If you want to win the title, I'm sorry but you have to get cheap goals from freekicks and corners, end of discussion, if Rafa can't see how important it is, then I pitty him.

I dont think teams even feel the slightest bit of fear when we get a corner, and if Aurelio isnt playing then even more so. The difference at the moment, is the whole team shits their pants when our opponents win a wide freekick or a corner. Psychology is one of the most important elements of football.

I actually missed out the smiley to indicate it wasn't a serious post (though I did allude to the fact Ronaldo dives as well).

We've had six years of 'Cheating Manc Bastards' everytime Ronnie did it, so I might as well have said it, especially considering how brilliantly pathetic the dive was.

I'm not going too much into this dive thing, because it happens with every team. But I want to see NGog getting the same treatment from the media as Eduardo! I want to see him getting stick for it for the next 2 months. Cause with Eduardo things went way over the top.

Gerrard, Rooney and Carlton Cole are bloody divers as well. But we all know that the media takes it easy on them just cause they're English.

Nope, you're exactly correct. It was a dive, and I'm sure Ngog is ashamed of himself as are most Liverpool fans, and we should've had 3 points. We had the possesion and chances, we just couldn't finish them.

what you mean you want the governing body to charge him, then realise that they'd have to ban the likes of Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic etc. which would make them unpopular and shit out of it anyway?

That's the thing, everyteam has there divers.

You would think after the Eduardo thing that players would take a look at themselves and try and avoid it.

But players keep doing it and will always do it, until there is a world wide in depth legislation that will punish divers.

Darren Bent did exactly the same as what Eduardo did, but because the keepers hands touched his legs, then it is a penalty and is fine?!

This is the sort of things that need to be stopped. These mixed messages need to stop coming out and there needs to be direct action for everybody. Not just kneejerk reactions to a few.

If a player goes down before anybody touches them, even though the keeper touches them after. Then this should be looked apon as bad, not accepted by people like Alan Shearer et al. This is why it continues, because at the moment there is a fine line between clever cheating and scandalous cheating, when they are both in fact cheating and should be frowned apon and action taken.

Ngog did what hundreds of other players do week in week out. What Eduardo did and what Bent did etc etc

Its not right, but unfortunately it will continue to happen.

But don't you see that it's because of the Eduardo thing that players know they can get away with it? He was charged with it at first but UEFA backed down and completely dropped it. His was the most high-profile case as far as i can remember, yet he got away with it because UEFA were worried they'd have to keep doing it to more popular players and realised they'd soon be branded hypocrites. Now the players know that they only have to cite this case and they'll get away with it. Unfortunately the precedent set by UEFA (and also FIFA) is that there's nothing wrong with diving. Fuck, even Platini and Blatter both came out in defence of diving recently saying they see nothing wrong with it.

IMO diving in the penalty area should be a straight red card.

That is true, but the Eduardo thing shouldn't have even happened. They had no right to single him out in the first place, it was ridiculous. If the charges went through, they still wouldn't have prosecuted everyone from then on, because it would have been impossible. So they would have just been banning people that have had the most complaints against them and that is not fair at all.

The only way is to work on a world wide rules to assess and punish players that dive. there should be a group that if a claim of diving is presented to them, they then review it and deem whether it should be punished or not.

but to do that they would need to spend a whole lot more money on the infrastructure to support this. But I think it is the only way to do it properly. But there is no way they are going to go to these lengths, so it will just keep going on and on and on.

But you are right, more needs to be done.

It's not just English players who 'get away with it', although they do more often than not. Two off the top of my head are Kuyt and Morten Gamst Pedersen. I've noticed Kuyt not diving but going down really, really easily recently (he did it at least twice against us for example). This is strange as it seems totally against his character and style of play which is maybe why its not really been picked up on.

Pedersen does it regularly. I've seen him a few times on MOTD and people must remember that one against Arsenal where he was miles away from anyone and went down appealing for a penalty anyway? Despite this commentators still refer back to that incident at OT where Rafael tapped his shoulder and his legs gave way insisting it should have been penalty and Allardyce was robbed!

Ashley Young is another English player who does it without attracting criticism.

UEFA should either not have charged Eduardo at all or stuck with the decision. Like has been said, as soon as they went back on it they fucked up and now there is a real problem.
