Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just watched Gerrards turn/skill for the 3rd goal. Oh my word, that was sublime. Looked impossible, dont even know how he saw the pass come behind him.

If Messi did that everyone would be wanking over it on youtube

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, the turn was brilliant and a great way to setup a goal. He and Benayoun were trying loads of flicks last night and a good few paid off.

Ayala grew into the game but he was REALLY indecisive in the first half when he had the ball. At one point he just stopped before the centre circle, NOBODY near him and looked completely lost. Reina is shouting at him to do something and Ayala even had time to turn around to look at Reina as he was being shouted at.

First half especially he dallied on the ball an awful lot but became more confident in the second half. Defensively he was solid though, didn't notice any mistakes from him and he looked FAR more composed defending than he did in pre-season. Once his confidence improves, he looks like he'll be a pretty good defender.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I heard you guys are after Marchisio and Giovinco???????????

Just saw MOTD, that was insane, even more so that it led to a goal.

honestly the first I've heard of it, nothing on Liverpool forums!

Mind you our scouts have been in seria a alot recently.

The Times, having said we only have 1.5m to spend, incidently the fee for Kryiakos, claims we are after Rafael Van Der Vaart for 10m, but they then go on to say but we cant afford him.....so what was the point in the article....

He'd be a good option to have, could play the voro role if he goes back to Berlin, and can play in midfield if required and of course on the left. Finally get rid of Babel?

Benayoun, Reira, VDV...

Good depth there

Re: Liverpool Thread

:)

All jokes aside, Villa were very good tonight and deserved their win. They defended well and broke in numbers, I thought Reo-Coker, Milner and obviously Friedel in paticular played really well.

The build up play before the penalty was outstanding, quick one touch passing and some great dribbling from Milner to escape 2 defenders.. how funny that it was Captain Fantastic that gave it away and killed the game! Isn't he supposed to dive and win won at the other end to get a 3-2 win so he can take the plaudits ;) If that had've been Lucas he would've been crucified. :NONO:

Seriously though, are you guys worried?? Do you think the loss of Alonso is whats causing these problems? You seem to lack any real creativity, Gerrard was just looking to shoot or had to play square passes and Torres was just trying to use his strength and pace to barge his way through Villa Fifa style. I guess Rafa needs to work out a new system and get Aquilani fit.

I hope he doesn't come out with some bullshit about having no money or something to deflect the attention away from another defeat. Call SAF what you want but he was very gracious in defeat when we lost to Burnley, can't see Rafa being the same.

And Dags, what was it you were saying about our fans leaving before the end when you beat us? ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I said this before but got shot down since I was apparently being a WUM. Alonso's loss is huge. He makes them tick and without him they can't build up the play like they did last season. Gerrard is having to come deep leaving Torres with no support. This wouldn't have been as big a problem if they replaced Alonso with a D'Agostino or Pirlo but instead they purchased (a very good player) Aquilani who's best played in Gerrards role and has a injury record similar to Owen Hargreaves. As I said originally I think Liverpool at best can get 3rd.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well, hard done I think on another day pool w`d of put a few past Villa. 2 errors gave Villa the win I don`t think they were better just they had better breaks (OG,awful tackle in the box)

Re: Liverpool Thread

We only lost 2 games last season. We have lost 2 games out of 3. It's going to be very hard playing catch up. However, teams like Man City and Spurs look like theyre going to be upsetting the big boys, as well as the odd Burnley kind of surprises, I feel we are in for an exciting season.

Gotta love O'Neil:

""At 2-0 we were in reasonable command of the game, although you are never in command at Anfield"

Re: Liverpool Thread

Meh, absolutely shite game. We didn't help ourselves, but apart from the goals, Villa did very little than just defend. An own goal, a set piece, and a penalty. Though what Villa did, they did very well.

I've said it before, I expect us to drop a few points. Alonso was important, and it will take time to apply a new system without him. We saw glimpses of it against Stoke.

Still, the Bestest Strike Partnership in the World, needs to fucking sort their head. Torres was abysmal, so was Gerrard. I just don't think our midfield was the problem, Lucas made enough passes to the attacking 4 in dangerous areas, but they kept losing it. And hope to god, Pelligrino sorts the set pieces out.

It's a terrible start, but it's just the start, we've got the whole season left. Hopefully, Rafa has some funds to buy a player or two and strengthen the squad.

Johnson was amazing. Again. Incredible footballer he is.

Re: Liverpool Thread

i would prefer gerrard back in midfield, as he can still pass a ball like alonso

with lucas and mash passes are far to square and we are not finding gerrard in the space to feed the front line

with gerrard in midfield he can find that pass like alonso and although we are going to have someone like babel or voronin upfront i still think it would be better than what we are using now

just my opinion

He's come out and said the players made stupid mistakes and Villa played well. As he does often enough. But you can just gloss over that, same with the suprs game. First he critised the players for a poor performance and the the ref for one aswell, but that doesn't make a good headline.

Missing Alonso a lot, Lucas is nothing more then tidy, which Masch is aswell but with the added defensive quality. The amount of times they could only pass between Masch, Lucas, Carra, Skrtel was ridiculous, especially when they were being controlled by 2/3 villa players. Meant that every attacking pass could be covered by two Villa players vs one Pool player. Thats why they lost the ball so often.

Felt a bit sorry for Torres, gets 3 headers/elbows and doesn't get a single freekick. But then if you go down clutching your ankles at every opportunity thats what happens.

And as for Babel........ffs two poor shots in Gerrard area when Gerrard is standing there. Either pass it wide or go wide Ryan! Don't come inside and waste possesion. He'll be off.

Your fans left at 65 mins, ours left at 85  Nice try ;)

I don't go in the Utd thread much, but did any Liverpool fans go in on the wind-up after you got beat by a team who played in the Championship last season?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Last night then? Fucking terrible. Villa did fuck all throughout the game, scoring from a free kick/OG, a corner which shouldn't have been allowed due to some Fergie-esque added on time, and a penalty

Torres does seem to be less effective this season I think. Whether that's due to players getting wise to him (he keeps trying the move where he knocks it passed players but it isn't working now) or whether it's due to players smashing Torres about and kicking/elbowing him around the pitch ... probably a combo of both.

Lucas, what a way to go from hero to villain. After playing so well against Stoke, he couldn't do a thing right last night and constantly misplaced simple ground passes as well as ballsing up any possible assists to a goal by fluffing those passes as well. When he scored that OG ... well, it sums up his night really.

Voronin ... he's a striker, right? So when he came on, why did he never appear in the box? The ball was being passed around the outside of the area, no options in the area and Voronin was loitering around closer to the centre circle than the goalmouth :BRICK:

Carragher and Skrtel was pretty good, as was Mascherano. Benayoun was ineffective and Insua didn't do great when he got forward. Johnson impresses me more each game and he played very well last night.

I'm REALLY hoping we can sign a creative player who can unlock park-the-bus teams like Villa, but on the other hand we need a quality striker who can create space and score. When you're losing a game, bringing on Voronin hardly fills anyone with confidence we'll get a goal back.

Our short-range passing was shocking last night, just like it was against Spurs. I'm not sure what's going on there but we're not able to do the simple things so that's worrying.

I'm confident we'll still be up the top of the table but we need to get our arses in gear. Any Mancs trying to count us out and laugh, I heard Utd lost their first two games in one season and still went on to win the league. Bearing in mind United have also lost a game and that was to a team just promoted, I think it'd be foolish to laugh so much just yet ;) Did United manage 5 points in their first four games last season?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought Gerrard and Torres got enough balls in dangerous areas, but didn't use the chances. Kept giving the ball away. Rafa to tell Torres, he just can't run past 5 defenders at once.

And to be fair, Voronin create the chance for the Torres goal.

Meh, the whole teams needs a bollocking. Let's hope Rafa sorts it out.

Re: Liverpool Thread

rafa better sort it out or else spurs may take over you from 4th spot come may

na on a serious note wtf man 3:1 loss at home?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres needs to just start playing football instead of going down like a sack of shit everytime he gets touched, then spending the rest of the match arguing with the ref.

He's as bad this season as Ronaldo ever was, and yet noone hates him for it.
