Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

That's a bit misquoted. Rafa actually said that he hoped Johnson's attacking talent would help Gerrard and Torres, not that he was getting someone else.

And anyways, they have enough help in Yossi, Dirk, Babel, and Riera.

Are you really that confident about that lineup?

Reira i think was a great buy and will have a great first full season. The ball sticks to him like glue, hes strong, good in the air and can spot a pass

Yossi can be hit and miss sometimes, and I wish he'd shoot more and stop trying to dribble past a whole team, he's still too weak. But we undoutably look a better attacking outlet with him in the side.

Babel, well he could go either way. Still dont think he has the footballing brain to go with his awesome physical abillties. If he puts his head down and gets a run of games. I thought the game against Real Madrid at home, he showed us what he can do. Madrid were quite simply torn apart by Torres, Gerrard and Babel's dynamism. It was scary.

Dirk will get goals (poacher goals) and assists, and works hard for the team, but he wont produce a bit of individual magic.

What we need is a combination of them! in ONE player :D

The pace of Babel, the control of Benayoun, Reiras strength and shot and Dirks work rate!

I dont think we neccessarily need a Sneijder or Silva, just adequate backup for Torres and Gerrard. Simples

I'm very confident, especially with the addition of Johnson and Aquilani.

Kuyt, and Johnson, for me, is potentially the best right side in the league. They complement each other so well, they will gel automatically.

Again, Riera seems to have developed a scoring touch in the summer, and hopefully he continues in this new season.

I've said enough about Yossi. The only thing inconsistent about him is his selection. If he plays regularly, he will deliver. He was the highest scoring midfielder since the new year, and I won't be surprised if he reaches double figures again.

As for Babel, at the very least, he's a threat that we can bring on, as he's ridiculously fast. Doubts about him and Lucas, but I feel both will do justice to their initial hype. Rafa's kept saying Babel needs 2-3 seasons, and he's got them. Let's see what he brings to the table.

I just don't understand the whole Torres-Gerrard thing. We're lucky to have two players as good as them, and I think that's the only reason we're called a two man team. Let's face it, they're the two best attacking players in the league now. And we managed 86 points with them missing half the games. United have Rooney who comes close to them, Chelsea have Drogba, and Lampard, and Arsenal have Arshavin.

It's a GOOD thing we have two players as good as them, with players like Yossi and Kuyt to complement them. I'll have those two over Nani, Park, Malouda, Kalou, Nasri etc.

Don't see what the fuss is about. Other teams have maybe one player who is good as those two. And I don't think any of their other players are miles better than our attacking players.

They stay fit, and we'll be brushing aside teams with ease.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We still lack a different type of player. Someone who can change a game in an instant. Torres and Gerrard wont play every game so we need someone else who can bring something a little special. None of the other players can do that.

Benayoun can do that. He's done it many times last season. Chelsea at home springs to mind immediately.

If you've seen Aquilani play, you'll know he's capable of incredible stuff.

Gerrard, and Torres won't play every game, but they'll still play most games. And which players do other teams have that can 'change' games that we don't? Is Nasri any more of a game breaker than Yossi? Or Kalou? Or Nani?

Hmmmmmm Benni isn't exactly a world beater. Didn't he play when we suffered that crappy spell of home draws?

He was always in and out of them until the February.

He may not be world class, but he's still better than most attacking midfielders in the league.

Again, who else is there in other teams who's better than Benayoun? Excluding the Rooneys and Arshavins?

Re: Liverpool Thread

That is all based on opinions. People seem to rate Ashley Young. I think Milner is better. People rate Heskey...I think he is shit.

Yeah, I think everyone looks at their team with some rather tinted glasses. I mean, you've basically just said that most of your subs bench is better than the other big 4's first XI attack, outside of their big strikers. If I had to rate wingers/SMF in the prem that I'd want starting for me, it would go:

Robinho, Cole, Young, Nani, Kuyt, Valencia, Malouda, Riera, Milner, (BIG GAP), Park, Lennon, (BIGGER GAP), SWP

In an attacking midfielder role, probably:

Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Arshavin, Fabregas, Ballack, Essien, Cahill, Petrov, Modric, Giggs...anyway a while before Yossi Benayoun.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Really Ryan?

Robinho = summer player.
Cole = great player but he's injured all the bloody time.
Young = Found out against the big teams.
Nani = Has a great shot and not a lot else.
Kuyt = just not a winger at all, works hard but isn't the best technically.
Valencia = Not proven yet, quick but inconsistent.
Malouda = just utter, utter shite
Riera = just utter, utter shite
Milner = good player but not a great player

So really when you think about it, we're not blessed with decent wingers in this league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's all opinion based lads we are never going to agree on who is better. Although matherto you've been the most harsh, Malouda came good end of last year and I think he'll do well this season.

I haven't said that though. Kuyt and Yossi (Kuyt especially) are regular starters, and I prefer them over Joe Cole, or Malouda, or Kalou, or Nani.

And anyways, I'm talking about only the Top 4. Wierd you call Essien an attacking midfielder.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Plus, my argument is simple that the 'Top 4' don't really have a game changer, outside their top players. Gerrard, Torres, Rooney, Berbatov (not that he's anywhere as good as those 3), Drogba, Lampard, Arshavin. Outside those players, I'd say all the attacking players are at least of similar quality, so to say, we NEED another attacker isn't fair.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Malouda is good. He was really unhappy in his first season due to the lifestyle in this country but last season he started to show the form he had at Lyon.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Giggs can be a game changer still at times. He can also be a complete waste of a substitution but we still love him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Basically we didnt have the money to finalise the contracts but now we do ;)

imo Liverpool needed to get their new stadium in order and that would of been swell more fans able to watch ,more income too. I feel the only ambition atm is to lift the title . And the focus to build left I only can assume if they (the owners) can sell it then, new owners can build one. I think what ends up having is neither the title or stadium will get done.

I said this once "If Arsenal doesn`t win I don`t care who does" I lied then and now.I would love to see Liverpool win the lot if we at The Arsenal couldn`t even though some pool supporters can be the biggest cunces (*****)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I know what your saying abhishek, we dont need just another attacker I think we need an other out & out striker who can be comfortable playing there by himself. Kuyt is more adjusted to the right side now, Ngog aint ready just yet & for me Voronin is a ok as backup.

Maybe a Negredo type of player but not for £12 m - thats just stupid. Hopefully Babel can do the job as it looks as if we wont sign another striker but his touch at times is terrible.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Agree with Dev-Don there. I just don't feel we have the depth in attack and have a quality striker if Torres is injured/tired/etc.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Read yesterday that Hull were looking at Negredo for 6mil..........wasnt he about 15mil when we were linked with him?!

Re: Liverpool Thread

£12m isn't it? They're talking about breaking their transfer record to get him.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5491236,00.html

"He will be an expensive signing for anybody," Brown told Sky Sports News.

"When you are going into the £12m brackets, and our record signing is £5m on Jimmy Bullard, it's a sign of intent.

"It's not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact that we're sitting round a table with representatives from Real Madrid, and certainly a player from Real Madrid, shows the sign of intent from the chairman, and hopefully from the manager."

Brown added: "We're quite pleased with what we've done so far at our end.

"We're obviously hoping to tie up the loose ends at the Real Madrid end by the close of play on either Monday or Tuesday."

Re: Liverpool Thread

i think he will be similar to ravenelli - getting all of Hulls goals and Fagan a Bullard may chip in with about 5 between themselves.

When were were linked with him they inflated the price because they were pissed about they way we held out for Xabis transfer fee.

I'd like to see some more english signings at anfield but everytime you try to buy someone decent, they smack up the fee.

I think David Bentley is worth a punt at say £7.5 mil if we can get him. Dont like his attitude but that can be sorted and hes a good player- then our striker crisis will be solved because Kuyt can play up top and Bentley on the right wing.... Just a thought I know loads of ppl hate the guy tho!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Would have taken him last season, but Dirk and Yossi have made the position their own. And anyways, if Torres is injured, you can shift Kuyt/Babel/Ngog up top, Yossi on the right, Riera/Babel on the left. If both Gerrard and Nando are injured, we can have Dirk up top, and Yossi, Riera and Babel behind him.

At a stretch, I'd like us to have a go at someone like Tuncay. We do have Voronin though, so unless we sell him, can't see that happening.

Tuncay and Voronin would easily be the best forward partnership in the world aside from Gerrard and Torres if you had them both yes?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not looking good so far, we've been our usual early-season self and far too negative. Spurs deserve the lead and maybe Benitez will tell the team to play their second-half-season attacking style instead.

Up to now though? Pretty rubbish, Gomes hasn't had a thing to do and Gerrard and Torres might as well be replaced by League 2 players and we wouldn't see a difference. Need to step it up quite a few gears.
