Re: Liverpool Thread

According to the Echo Aquilani's gonna wear the number 4 shirt.

According to a lad who works in the official club shop, they've just been told to order in a load of 7s, he said they normally order big amounts of numbers they expect to be big sellers, at the minute the only players with a 7 in their number are Degen and Skrtel at 27 and 37 respectively.

Either there's something we don't know about or they're expecting Degen to be a superstar

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nobody at present.

If you're not in for a new attacker or midfielder, maybe Aquilani will be 7 and a new defender will be 4? Or a popular player with another number (ie not 1-11) is getting the 7 shirt?

nah the local paper said that the club have confirmed that Aquilani will wear number 4.

I think they've left it a bit late to change one of the other players' numbers too, Kuyt would probably be the best bet of the players we have but loads of people already have his shirt with 18 and the season starts in a few days.

I'm taking it with a pinch of salt tbh, with all the rumours of Silva over the past few months it could just be his attempt at starting a rumour.

To be fair, I'd be glad to be on the same team as Skrtel, I don't fancy being eaten.

And I bet Rafa's just told Aquilani that he reckons his wife is a demon in bed . Aquilani's just replied 'especially when you take her from behind'

11.22 Skysports.com understands Liverpool, West Ham and Fulham are all considering bids for Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross, with the Anfield outfit understood to be leading the race for his services.

Ex Utd academy boy, to be fair he looked outstanding in Stoke's defence last year, big, fast and strong.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wasn't he the one that got sent off cause he kept hacking down Ronaldo?

:APPLAUD: Sign him up:APPLAUD:

he got a fair few goals last year and he was outstanding in the two games against us.

As long as the price is right. Have my doubts that he'll want to move. Hes getting first team football, and hes been at a big club before. He wont always be first choice at Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nah it was Andy Wilkinson that was hacking Ronaldo.

Shawcross is good, he was outstanding last season in his first senior year at any club. The competition for CB at United is fierce so he moved to get games.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Whats your line-up going to be for Sunday? Will be a tough game for you lot to kick things off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah Modric and Lennon could have a field day against Johnson.

Apparently Carragher and Skrtel are fit and I imagine Gerrard will be (how many Eng;land friendlies does he miss) so they should be full strenth.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not as many as Giggs missed Welsh friendlies?

And this is the Lennon who is constantly said to be overrated by so many of you facing probably the best right-back in the league last season? Riiiight ...

Or Babel could have a field day with....Essou Akoto?:FAIL:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa Benitez praised the versatility and passing abilities of Alberto Aquilani after the Italian was unveiled at Melwood today.
The Liverpool manager said his new recruit has a different style of play to Xabi Alonso and should not be seen as a direct replacement for the Spanish midfielder.

"Xabi is a holding midfielder that can play long. He (Aquilani) is a player with more mobility, playing a little bit higher," said Benitez.

"He can pass the ball and keep getting into the box."

Benitez has a clear role in mind for Aquilani, but is confident his new No.4 could comfortably fill in anywhere in central midfield.

"We have Mascherano and Lucas Leiva both playing really well, with Gerrard in front. He can play instead of any of them," he said.

"He can play as second striker if necessary, but his best position will be between Gerrard and Mascherano - or between Lucas and Gerrard."

Rafa brushed off any lasting concerns over Aquilani's ankle injury and insisted the Italian is on the road to recovery.

"We knew that he had some problems," he explained.

"We think that we can improve him and keep him fit. We are 100 per cent confident he will be okay.

"Since the first day he was here with the physios, he was in the gym and the swimming pool, training and working really hard to be fit as soon as possible."

Rafa might be looking for his Ruben Baraja in Aquilani. Obviously, he never was looking for a playmaker it seems.

Based on who is fit right now it'll probably be

....................Reina

Johnson...Carragher...Skrtel...Insua

................Mascherano

.....................Lucas
Kuyt.......................................Riera

......................Gerrard
.............Torres

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't say Lennon is overrated but he hasn't improved enough over the last few years. I think Evra is the best LB out their and hes given him more problems than the likes of Messi have.

I'll be okay with that lineup, as long as Lucas played like he did in pre-season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good to hear Rafa say we're after an attacking player

"We will now look for someone to help [Fernando] Torres and [Steven] Gerrard."

Wonder if the number 7 shirt is being saved for someone special, i've always believed this summer that there would be a big signing made which will surprise a few people, i still hope that will happen.

Yeh Lucas is improving all the time imo, i just hope all the dickheads looking for a scapegoat leave him alone to play and stop getting on his back all the time.

If Gerrard's not fit for the Spurs game (although i'd be surprised if he didn't play), i'd expect Benayoun to start on the right with Kuyt in the middle with Torres.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'd cross fingers and hope for Villa. He really is awesome, if you lot get him I'll put my house on you winning the league. At the moment I've just got £20 on it...

Re: Liverpool Thread

11.15 Liverpool have been handed a massive boost ahead of the new season with the news Fernando Torres has signed a new and improved contract at Anfield.

Eh? Didn't he sign a new contract a couple of months ago?
