Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

i really hope voronin though gets a chance, he's good player and works well but i think liverpool will line up somethin like this...

-------------------Reina-------------------

----------Carragher------Skrtel------------

-Johnson-------------------------Aurelio---

-----------------Masherano-----------------

-------------------------------------------

-----------Aquilani------------------------

-------------------------------------Riera-

Kuyt---------------------------------------

--------------------------Gerrard----------

-------------------Torres------------------

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think he'll offer us something we miss, creativity and penetration in midfield. His short to mid range passing is as good as Xabis, his long range isnt. He has two good feet and has a better goal scoring record that Xabi.

There isnt really another player like Xabi in the league. The Mancs and Chavs have done well enough without a Xabi.

Saying that though Veron wasn't that bad at all, he's got this rep that he was awful and it's probably a bit unfair

i'd rather say "insane". whoever said veron was awful (i assume, basing his "opinion" just on the 2 years he spent in man utd) doesn't even deserve to be listened to.

i really hope aquilani will do well too, as he's really a nice guy and an enournous talent (even though he has not "prem league quality" ), but i wouldn't compare him to a world class player like sebastian veron just yet ;)

however what's the nature of this last injury?.... coz getting injured right after a surgery... doesn't sound good at all.... especially at this point of the preseason.

Lots of rotation me thinks.

I agree, he's shown over his career he's one of the best players in the world, but Dags' post shows the opinion most people have of his time in this country.

Most people either say
1. He's rubbish.
2. He's good but he didn't do so well in England, or
3. He's good in a 'poor' league like Italy but couldn't cut it in a great league like ours.

The fact he played for the most succesful team at the time and most other fans hate that club did not help.

Most people here talk the same bullshit about players in England and follow the press and each other like sheep without thinking, it really pisses me off.

I agree Veron maybe wasn't as consistenly amazing as he could have been while he was at United, but he was out of his comfort zone and he certainly showed his class on many occasions for us and I was quite surprised when SAF sold him considering how much he'd defended him against any critisism.

Re: Liverpool Thread

My post was just to show that class players don't always fit in in our league as Aitken said, so I pointed out that Veron was a player that you had that came across that. Forlan is another of those players actually.

I don't think anyone can say he's awful though.

i see, mate. it happens everywhere afterall.... italian fans are just more lucky than english, as the italian football press speaks sense (most of the times).

however with my post, i wasn't referring to dags... (i absolutely didn't mean to have a go at u mate ;) )... i was just amazed by the fact jumbo mentioned what a wrong opinion people has about veron (and, knowing u, jumbo, i already knew u couldn't agree with that "opinion" ;) )

saying a player is poor and saying he didn't perform in a small period of his carreer are 2 completely different things of course.

@ Lo Zio, he's still recovering from surgery. It's not a new injury.
thanks for the info mate. that's a big relief :))

Re: Liverpool Thread

Veron was very unlucky IMO, I think he came over at the time when the league style was different to today. If Veron were to move to the PL know in his prime he would probably be the best attacking midfielder in the league.

Aquilani has the talent and im pretty sure that he would succeed but the fact he's constantly injured means will he ever get time to settle in? We'll have to see but its a big gamble by Rafa.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Today has shown that Ayala and San Jose just aren't ready for quality opposition unfortunately, they're being ripped apart and pulled all over the place.

On a brighter note, Benayoun has been immense and Lucas is playing very well too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lucas has been immense today. Insua too. Johnson looks really good, seamless linkup with Kuyt and Nando.

Good performance, just two pieces of sloppy defending to be honest. But San Jose and Ayala aren't ready for one of the top strike partnerships in the world.

Kelly, Voro, Gog.....all good cameo's

think we've been the better side overall. Two pens turned down, Torres hit the post. Lots of chances created

Re: Liverpool Thread

Agree with your post there, Petrov.

Spearing looked good when he came on again, I'm sure we'll see him feature a good few times this season.

Kelly impressed when he came on, he looks more more confident and composed out of the young defenders.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Atl.Madrid played well and deserved the win but its just a friendly and mangers see were players can be used at.Arsene used a 4-3-3 and it worked well. Has rafa tried new formation in preseason ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good goal by Lucas. Beautiful pass by Gerrard playing from central midfield....

Kuyt and Johnson just look the business together.

We looked a better side with Spearing on. He played far more disciplined than Masch, who's still looking to run towards the ball, rather than holding his position, which he needs to do, now that Xabi's gone (:()

Re: Liverpool Thread

18.46 Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed his interest in signing Hull defender Michael Turner.

Not seen him play but heard he's highly rated.

Re: Liverpool Thread

yes, turner isnt ready, and hes too expensive all ready. Its that English premium again. Why not use the english players that we do have who appear to be ready. Kelly and Spearing!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeh, those two impressed me the most pre-season. I can see them both being great squad players. Spearing especially. Can see a bit of Roy Keane in him, the way he plays. Great understudy for Masch.

:DD

Bit worrying how poor you lot have done in pre season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Really, why is anyone apart from Liverpool fans bothered about our pre-season? Most of our main players have hardly featured, the youth players have probably clocked up more playing time, and Spurs had a great pre-season last year and look how they finished.

Worrying? Not at all. Pre-season results bear no reflection on the coming season, especially when the players who play in the season didn't feature much during pre-season anyway.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not too concerned. We have had our whole defensive line out with injuries, and our team is still adapting to life without Xabi.

Rafa's got a whole week. We'll see against Spurs.

Bloody hell! If that is the case then you should be worried

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not when most of the players played in the Confederations Cup and were having their holidays when pre-season started ;)

Or in court. :JAY:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not concerned by the pre-season results. I thought we bossed Athletico, we didnt deserve to lose, they had two shots on target, two goals.

am concerned about our injuries to defenders though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

looks like Agger and Carragher will both be fit for the start of the season so i'm not too worried about that, but San Jose and Ayala aren't good enough imo, maybe they will be in time, but not yet.

I'm not worried about the pre-season results either, remember last year when Voronin looked superb in pre-season?

Sad news about Espanyol captain Daniel Jarque, he died yesterday after a heart attack following a training session. He was only 26. RIP Daniel.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Sad news indeed, a very talented player and a massive blow for Espanyol and his family.

Details of the Aquaman deal, and this is from Roma themselves (as they are stock exchange listed)

The 20 million EURO transfer fee is broken up into the following:

- 4 cash instalments of
- - 5 million EURO upfront
- - 3 million EURO by 4th January 2010
- - 7 million EURO by June 30th 2010
- - 5 million EURO by June 30th 2011.

Further Add ons include:

- 300,000 EURO for every year Liverpool qualify for the Champions League from 2010/11 to 2014/15

- 250,000 EURO everytime the player reaches 35 appearancs, 70 appearances, 105 appeances and then 140 appearances.

- 1 million EURO the first time Liverpool either wins the Premier League or Champions League by 30 June 2014.

- 5% of any future transfer fee will be paid to Roma.

so thats 20m EURO'S NOT POUNDS, in very simple installments.
