Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Strange for Defour to turn down Arsenal. He'd fit in well there, and be guaranteed a starting place (and live in London, that mysteriously wonderful place that continental types tend to value).

I know the other clubs have been mentioned though.

Not really Defour stated that he wanted a TOP club.....I honestly do not think that Arsenal is a top club compared to Pool
A lot of text traffic going on between Steven and Dirk Kuyt a little pixie told me ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nah, were do the wingers fit in?

I think they might have made a deal wqith Masch that he can go next summer as replacing two CM in one summer isn't acceptable. If Defour does come over I would expect the midfield 2 to be him and Aquilani for the majority of games "next" season and for a more defensive set-up replace one with Spearing. He'll have another year to train and learn from Masch and he is a similar type player; runs alot, has a stocky build and is tidy with his passes.

That gives Defour, Spearing and Aquilani a season to get used to each other and the system with only one of them being needing to play per match in the current system (4-2-3-1). This enables the majority of the team to remain the same for the matches, injuries permitting, so they should be able to "carry" the chosen player. And this allows both Aquilani and Defour to have enough rest whilst getting used to the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

to be honest if Spearing ever has to step in the season I wont be hiding behind a pillow, he is a very, very decent player. Reminds me of Scholes.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Spearing reminds more of Gerrard in his earlier days I think. But likewise, I'd be content with Spearing playing more this season, same with Kelly.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Really does seem to be a year for the big guns in our league (probaly mnus Chelsea, as ever) to push their youngsters as regular starters.

You lot have got Spearing, Kelly, Insua, Pacheco etc who hopefully will see a good amount of playing time this season, we've got people like Gibson, Macheda, Wellbeck, etc.

Arsenal have their whole squad minus Gallas and Silvestre near enough :P

Should be nice to discover some new stars (even though they played a lot last year some of them).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Insua is a good player and Pachecho is rated, Never seen the other two enough, How good can they become?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've only seen Spearing coming on against Real at 3-0. Looked tidy and full of energy, winning the ball back, bringing it forward with a powerfull run and then giving a good pass to keep the team moving. Not sure but I think he might have come on for Masch.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He played the other day in a friendly and was supposed to have been good. Ugly bastard though, surprised he doesn't play for us.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nah. Chain smoker Berbatov has got that mean and moody vampire look down to a tee.

Then the ladies always love Giggs and I know a few girls who think Anderson is a cutie too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I know a few girls who think Anderson is a cutie too.

Didnt realise YoungGun was a bird, explains the Anderson avater though....and currently the Michael "Im So Dreamy" Owen pic.

Berbatov should try getting a guestperformance on True Blood, they wont even need to use make-up.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeh Spearing is an ugly bastardo, but yes, when I say he reminds me of scholes, this is purely from how comftable he is on the ball, and how he picks the ball up off other players, but he also has the energy and drive of Gerrard but its a shame he doesnt have the same build. He does pass and move alot but will drop back to kick start a team when it needs to be done.

If he's given the chance I can see him as a future England international with Wiltshere et co

Re: Liverpool Thread

And is out for 4 to 8 weeks :(

Guess that enables him to get atleast half the injurytime per season out of the way. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

alot of Roma fans think he was constantly rushed back and that hampered his progression.

Lets take out time. Lucas showed signs towards the end of last season that he is ready. Gerrard can also drop back and Spearing/Plessis are capable cover.

Still think our business isnt done.

Re: Liverpool Thread

goood signing that ...Aquilani has not played since March due to an ankle injury and is only expected to be fully fit in around four to eight weeks time. What is rafa thinking? I bet you lots might want to buy owen hargreaves for 20 too

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah, why sign someone on a 5 year contract if they're injured for a whole possible 4 weeks out of those 5 years?! Sack Rafa. (as Abhi would say).

:P I know whenever you lot see me post you die a little inside seeing Owen with our badge :DD

But how do you ease someone like that in? Will be interesting

Re: Liverpool Thread

:D

Vid made him look very tidy, I mean if he can make Baptista look good, then he definitly has skills. Good with simple passes around the area.

Re: Liverpool Thread

its intresting signing for liverpool but hes not really a consistant performer and it will be good to see how he copes, personally i hope he does well but i just don't think he's quite right replacement or succesor of xabi

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah but it's the same as us 'replacing' Ronaldo with Valencia... we're adopting a new system and changing the way we play, they don't need to be like for like and this is probably the case with Liverpool too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

sure thing but valencia had prem league quality as he has exp, its a gamble with this one

bets on they sell him back to roma for half they paid? ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes he could be another Veron ;)

Saying that though Veron wasn't that bad at all, he's got this rep that he was awful and it's probably a bit unfair. He scored some quality goals for us that people never mention and he was a pretty lethal combination with Van Nistelrooy, especially in Europe. In a sense him and Aquilani are similar in the way they push forward and play quick one-two's around the box and things like that. I hope Aquilani does well because I like him as a player but I don't want him to do so well it impacts on us
