Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Play-making wise, I think Alberto has what it takes and is one of the few in the world that can rival Xabi and so could be a replacement in that regard. But yah since he doesn't have as much defensive abilities and isn't on par with Alonso in that regard (is weaker), then some change in the system will be required, not a HUGE one necessarily tho but yah most likely with Gerrard doing a little more defensive work than he did last year or playing deeper like he used to.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well I can see 'Pool being exposed more at the back this season if Aquilani or Gerrard have to drop deep as their covering/defensive positioning and defensive abilities are quite some way away from Alonso's.

Lucas would be better in Alonso's role but he doesn't offer as much on the ball or in terms of supporting the attack.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bitter bollocks is saying we shouldn't have won against Milan but he's forgotton about Bayern and Terry's penalty (as Abhi said above), double standard muppet. Really, he speaks some shite does Ferguson.

And you're saying about losing Ronaldo but the team making up for it, is that not the same case for Liverpool when Ferguson says we're rubbish without Gerrard and Torres? Even though they only started 1/3 of last season together anyway and we were STILL highest scorers in the league?

One rule for Utd, another for everyone else. Hypocritical pisshead.

Re: Liverpool Thread

That formation wont offer your full backs much protection and with Johnson's natural tendancy to overlap and push forward could leave you exposed at the back.

We've never really given our full backs much protection have we? Mascherano's never played as a proper holding midfielder. He's always played further ahead of Xabi, trying to win the ball back, rather than covering for players. Interesting how much he's been involved in our attacks as well. If he plays deeper, then I do think he'll play a lot more of a covering role. Plus, Johnson would have Dirk up front, covering for him. In theory of course

---------------Reina-------------
Johnson----Carra---Agger---Aurelio
---------------Masch--------------
----------Gerrard---Aquilani------
----Kuyt------------------Yossi----
---------------Torres--------------

Not too bad, that. Think this system would suit both Babel as well as Lucas. Still might need cover for Masch though.

Meh, who cares, I'm sure Rafa has it all planned out.

Dirk is captain again today :))

Re: Liverpool Thread

 But you lot hang off his every word.

Gerrard and Torres played 54 league games between them, they weren't injured as much as Rafa likes to make out.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ok great, I thought you weren't a 2 man team though?

I cant be arsed to work it out but Vidic and Ferdiand didnt play together that often last season AND WE STILL HAD THE BEST DEFENCE IN THE LEAGUE :SMUG: :WOOT:  ARF!

And from what Abhi's saying you'll be breaking up 'the best strikeforce in the world (eva!!!!)' anyway so Rafa can't value it that much.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres and Gerrard didn't play together often AND WE STILL SCORED THE MOST GOALS IN THE LEAGUE :SMUG: :WOOT:  ARF!

Not bad for a 2-man team where the two men didn't play many games together eh, Fergie?

Re: Liverpool Thread

The most interesting thing is that our team never really played to it's full potential (except for our defence), yet we still at least reached the semi-finals of any cup competition and won a few trophies, whereas you guys accumulated your highest points total yet were shocking in any domestic competition and were played off the park at home in the CL semi-final.

Re: Liverpool Thread

And it was Benitez who used the Torres & Gerrard situation as an excuse for not winning the league.

So you don't think that two of the best players in the world not starting together for 2/3 of their matches doesn't affect the team then?

Brilliant.

Well he shouldn't have sold Keane then...

He wouldn't have had to rely on the likes of N'Gog then.

Argh, I thought the match started at 8pm :(

San Jose starting again? I'd have liked to see Kelly starting really, seems San Jose will be starting the season then.

Edit: Kelly started as well

Re: Liverpool Thread

It always surprises me that the moment there is some good news for Liverpool (Alonso signing sorted, Aquilani in) we have more mancs in here then pool fans. And coincidentally it's always some random argument about nothing with Jumbo continuing it for a few pages.

Anyway, I posted the possible formations the team could play a couple of pages back and nobody commented on it.......

For the busparkers:

.....Masch......
Gerrard..Aquilani

For the defensive set-up:

Masch.....Lucas
...Gerrard.....

or for a slightly more attacking defensive midfield:

Masch....Gerrard
...Aquilani.....

Think the signing could be better against the also rans as it could be more effective at breaking teams down. However I think against the very top sides in europe it could be a little exposed.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Impressed with Spearing, Johnson, Ngog and Babel here. All playing very well and looking confident.

Voronin's control is so poor.

Well said there, Tik. Now that you mention it, it does seem like the Mancs come in here whenever there's good news for us and they try to constantly either put a dampener on or compare themselves to us as usual. Well spotted!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I hope he stays. He's very clever, and always tries to pull off stuff. Great option off the bench.

Babel was brilliant, and so was Lucas. He's really bulked up.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Is Voronin going to be kept as cover for Torres or is he going to be sold?

I'm hoping we get a better striker in to replace Voronin but I have a feeling he'll stay here this season. He's not THAT bad a player, but he's hardly Big Four material, probably more like a Wigan-type player or something.

You see the Bergkamp trick that Babel tried? Quality :APPLAUD:

Re: Liverpool Thread

A shame he isn't confident more often :( When he's on top of his game, he's superb. But loads of times he just has his head down and looks like he doesn't care.

Should be a good battle between him and Riera if he keeps going like this.

Are you Tony Barrett??

you seriously never seem to have anything negative to say about Liverpool at all, i'm like that to an extent but not as much as you.

edit: btw i'm not saying you should be more negative! :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

been readng up on Alberto on Roma forums. They are all gutted and incidently fuming about their owner selling their Roman homegrown players.

They mostly came to the conclusion that he was better than C.Pizzaro and Roma were at there most deadly when they played a 4-2-3-1 with Aqua and De Rossi as the "two"

Aqua and Mash.....Gerrard Kuyt Yossi/Silva/Sneijder/Villa.....and Torres?

Re: Liverpool Thread

oh and Kelly has been brilliant today. A decent option as backup at RB?

Mind you Degen is improving with each game, which i thought would always be the case.

Degen is a fraud of a footballer. There.

Btw, Kelly was brilliant ;)
