Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

If you got him wouldn't you have too many centre backs who'd all want to be first choice though? Distin is good enough to command that and I can't see Carragher settling for backup and Agger was already getting fed up of doing it last season.

Your reserve team is huge surely there's someone there who could fill in for injuries, if not San Jose then there's about 4 or 5 other central defenders isn't there?

Martin Kelly is the only other CB in a reasonable position to be a reserve, he's impressed me more this pre-season than San Jose, but I'm not sure he's ready for the first team either yet.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah well Skrtel ain't out for that long and Agger you said was only rested as a precaution so if he's needed you might aswell give him a chance. I'm surprised none of them have been out on loan to be honest, defenders need game time to learn positioning and reading of the game, playing reserve football isn't as good as moving down to the Championship or a lower Prem side.

You had a guy called Jack Hobbs who was meant to be promising but he left didnt he?

EDIT: What about Miki Roque and Antwi? They're 2 I've heard of?

Re: Liverpool Thread

San Jose was at Tranmere last season, Kelly at Huddersfield. Hobbs looked to be a talent when we signed him but not much was heard about him once he signed, moved to Leicester now.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ahh right fair enough, I dont think Distin is the answer though, you need a promising younger player who's ready for first team but wouldn't demand to play every game, like we've got in Jonny Evans.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's done apparently. Xabi's gone for 30M + add ons, and we've signed Aquilani at 14M. Absolutely steal if true, as long as we can keep Aquilani fit.

Wonder what we'll do with the rest of the money.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well if it's true then it's more craziness from the madhouse that is Madrid. Hope you lot get one of the dutch boys in return, just as a token gesture.

I think he'll be an important piece of the puzzle for Madrid, but I also think he's been pretty scarily hyped up last season. So a good time to sell all in all. For that kind of price I'd guess that Madrid could have gotten Fabregas, who for me would be much smarter. Maybe his barca ties...dunno.

Are you serious? I think with Alonso, Madrid might have just finally completed the puzzle. How scary does this look

Casillas
Ramos Albiol Pepe Arbeloa
Alonso Diarra
Ronaldo Kaka
Raul
Benzema

That's the best keeper in the world, one of the best right backs in the world, one of the best playmaker in the world, the two best attacking midfielders in the world, and one of the best strikers in the world. Add to that two of the best center backs in Spain, one of the most consistent defenders in Europe, one of the best defensive midfielder in Spain, and eh.... Raul.

And they have enough depth. Higuain could play both positions up front, they've got Robben, Marcelo, Drenthe for the wings, Gago and Guti for center midfield, and Torres, Garay, Metzelder in defense.

That's ridiculously good.

Madrid really needed someone who could find their attackers, as well as provide defensive stability. Xabi can do that. He's one of the world's best at it. Fabregas could never provide the defensive qualities Xabi has. Plus, he'd still want to play higher up. In today's market, Xabi Alonso is easily worth 30M.

He's not hyped up, he's just that good.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No I agree that he's a great cog in the real madrid puzzle, but if I'd told you last summer that Rafa would be holiding out for £30m, you'd of laughed at me. And I know there's been some inflation, but I really don't believe that Xabi Alonso is worth more or less equal to the premier league transfer record. Just my opinion. I think he had a good year, but it's all spun out of control now.

If Alonso is worth £30m, what is Torres worth? Gerrard? Ah well, guses it's all ECON 101 - he's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for him.

This whole summer is doing my head in. There's no value left in the market. Madrid and City are just distorting it too much. I still have no idea how Madrid expect to pay the bills.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Its all very well having the players, now they just need to get the manager :P

Pellegrini is a world class manager mate. Just depends on whether Perez gives him the time.

I wouldn't have laughed at you. I was furious that we were prepared to sell him at 16M when Barry was worth 20M. Even last summer, Alonso should have been worth more than Barry, so that's 20M+ even last summer. Given how crazy the market is, think 30M is a very reasonable price, considering we also gave away Arbeloa for just 3.5M.

What Gerrard and Torres are worth? Well, they should be near about someone like Ronaldo or Kaka I guess. 60-70M.

Re: Liverpool Thread

And the worse is that I, as a spanish citizen, will end up paying Madrid's bills, as we had to do when they signed Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, etc... in the first Galactico-muppet show. They did a scary-gangster kind of treaty where ACS (the company of Florentino) got a contract to construct the 4 biggest buildings in spain in the terrains that madrid sold to the government.

Oh, I forgot to say, the terrains were not originally owned by the club, the terrains were a present the government did to the club in the 70s, so technically, the government payed for something that was public and even gave money to Florentino.

Now you know that part of the 30M Liverpool will have will come from my pocket at the end. So, please, buy someone decent and put them out again of Europe. With humilliation again if it can be.

To Abhishek: I think you are overestimating a lot the madrid defence. Last year barcelona scored 6 at the Bernabeu and Albiol and Arbeloa are good players but not drastically better over what they had. They signed them only because they were spanish and to balance the signings of Kaka, Ronaldo and Benzema. Really.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We made an excellent deal with Alonso. With the money of his sale and the rest of the money that we have we can buy both Aquilani and Silva.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Now Lucas is linked with moving to Corinthians :CONF:

Can't wait for this window to end.

Re: Liverpool Thread

very excited about aquilani!
huge fan of his...interesting to see what our formation will be like

too bad the lavezzi deal never materialized...that would've been two of my favorite serie a players in merseyside

hope our medical team can keep him fit!

Re: Liverpool Thread

marca reporting Aquilani is a done deal, wont believe it until its on LFC website though!

yeh the Spanish press are reporting Alonso's gone for €32,000,000 and we've signed Aquilani for €18,000,000. Leaving quite a bit left over for a forward if true :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Being heavily linked with Steven Defour as well now. I've seen him a couple of times and he looked like a pretty good player, one to keep an eye on.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Very good player and personal acquaintance of mine. Type of player that plays for the squad and can be personally decisive as well.

yeh his agent reckons we're interested.

wonder if he has the same agent as Lavezzi...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I can confirm that Pool and Real are 2 serious contenders for Defour.
Standard denied his 17 Mill EUR move to Everton, because player and club agreed that he would only go to a top club ( sorry toffees ). Real spurred up their interest last week and Defour was the back up plan for Xabi.
However, it seems that Rafa wants him bad. Rafa said to Kuyt literally, if Xabi goes I want Defour....Will keep you up to date.....
