Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerrard's a brilliant midfielder if he's played alongside the right one.
You can apply that logic to anyone.

It's like saying Micah Richards is a brilliant central defender if he's played alongside Richard Dunne.

Gerrard's a brilliant midfielder if he's played alongside the right one.

i.e. Someone to do all the defending, all the covering, all the backtracking, all the simple passing, and everything else apart from shoot from 30 yards, play through balls to Torres and starfish dive if there's any contact and a penalty or freekick look a better option.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nah, he's just a brilliant footballer, and has been brilliant wherever he's played.

Unbelievable mate, so you're ignoring the years of average Liverpool and England performances when played on the right, or the centre of midfield?

He's either paying you or you're severely infatuated with him.

Tell me, if he'd thrown three punches at you, would you have said 'Thanks Stevie babe, can I have another?" ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

well the best midfielder i've ever watched in my life thinks Stevie Ali is the best midfielder in the world, and De Rossi just said he is to. So there.

OH and when has Gerrard EVER been AVERAGE for Liverpool FC.

He made his name and broke through the youth team, devloping into our main star player, AS a central midfielder. Player of the Month awards tumbled month after month. Only in 2006 did Rafa play him on the Right where he became more of a goal threat, and since then his obvious understanding with Fernando, and our other options in midfield meant that he was more useful upfront. He can still do a very good job in central midfield, but I'd rather we didnt break up the best attacking duo in the world.

And he was a bloody machine at Right Back too!

Well apart from the odd game, and period in odd games when he had to save you in the CL/FA Cup he had three very average years (considering how highly he is rated as well) from 2005/06 to 2007/08.

Last year I'll admit he had a very good year, but he still went missing in most of the big games against the big teams (I can't remember him ever having a very good game against one of the other teams in the top four, especially against Chelsea).

He's a good leader, he's great for popping up at the right moment and scoring, he's got a great partnership with Torres, and he's great at making the most of a situation at times (he's a diving cunt basically). But he isn't a patch on a shitload of midfielders and certainly nowhere near as good as everyone seems to rate him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

FFS, it's called an opinion. You lot have an opinion that Rooney is this world class striker, who's going to step up next season. Fair enough, it's your opinion.

And it's my opinion that Gerrard is the most complete player I have EVER seen. He's played as an attacking midfielder, and is considered the world's best. When he played at right midfield, he was considered the best player in the league. And he was one of the world's best at center midfield, which is where he made a name for himself. De Rossi, arguable the best central midfielder around, considers Gerrard his idol. Hiddink has mentioned on several occasions that he considers Gerrard the best player in the world.

It's just that he's so good up front, that people consider him an average central midfielder. I'm sure several people said that when he first moved up front, that he didn't have the patience to play up front, and was best bombing on from central midfield. One year on, and here he is, 20 goals + 20 assists.

And by the right midfielder, I mean someone who compliments Gerrard. Someone like Xabi was perfect for Gerrard, and they were a fucking brilliant partnership. And no, we didn't lack defensive cover, because Gerrard worked his balls off to track back, and win the ball. Masch will never be a good partner for him, because they operate in the same areas, although with different roles.

It's just that someone like Rafa has managed to get the absolute best out of Gerrard, and converted him into a No. 10 type player. He's been an absolute beast for us ever since Rafa took over, and I won't have any other player in the world besides him. He's world class, and deserved to be called one of the best in the world. Just my opinion of course, but I'm sure several people agree.

None could have tell it better. 100% agree

Re: Liverpool Thread

in summary, i value Zinidine Zidane's opinion over a bitter manchester united fan who really wanted Stevie to go to Jail, and he didn't.

EDIT: Just because someone was a great footballer, it doesn't necessarily mean he knows what he's talking about. Great players don't make great managers because they don't always understand the game in the same way. ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Looks like our strongest side out there today, barring San Jose obviously. Be interesting to see the kind of shape everyone is in now. Looking forward to seeing Johnson more as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well it depends, Im sure if we lost Carrick he wouldn't go for 30M but I'd be fucking worried. players like Carrick and Alonso are what make the team tick along. without them they'll be very disjointed (Just see how things went to shit after Carrick got injured at Anfield 10 minutes in)

Mascherano can't play the ball out. he's their to play the sitting game which he does very well. Gerrard positionally is awful in CM and can't "run" a match like the two above.

Carrick is a good average player not in alonzos class or a player similar like fabregas. carrick is laxidasical I've consistently seem him getting dispossed. Not worth the money you bought him for. But hes a decent player I dont really think he gets things ticking as much as many UTD supporters say he does.

He has his days dont get me wrong, but if he got hit buy a Bus (which would be hillarious) I dont think UTD would suffer that much.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Degen again ...

:SHAKE:

He's one of those players like Traore where his name starts to make you dread him having any involvement for fear of him cocking up. Like he just has.

Espanyol are playing very well tonight, they're ripping our defence apart really. Although we have got San Jose who's still very inexperienced, Degen who's just shit, Insua who's still growing into the team and Johnson who's a new signing. Still though, not good.

Re: Liverpool Thread

San Jose is nowhere near ready for the first team, I think that much has been made clear.

Problem is we have Skrtel and Agger injured so we don't have many options. Hopefully we're still interested in Distin.

Do you know if they are going to make it to the start of the season ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Skrtel wont be ready for the start of the season but I think Agger is just a slight knock and was just rested today as a precaution really.

Good workout today and good opposition to really push the players. I'm not really concerned about the result or performance too much as we had the likes of San Jose and Spearing out there who probably won't feature much when the season starts.

Alonso only getting his 8 mins or so of playing time, Plessis coming on ahead of him. I reckon that's the last time we see him playing for us :( In saying that, maybe we can afford to change to a more attacking formation if Aquilani arrives who I believe is more attack-minded than Alonso so I expect us to switch up our formation and tactics a bit when Xabi leaves.

If you got him wouldn't you have too many centre backs who'd all want to be first choice though? Distin is good enough to command that and I can't see Carragher settling for backup and Agger was already getting fed up of doing it last season.

Your reserve team is huge surely there's someone there who could fill in for injuries, if not San Jose then there's about 4 or 5 other central defenders isn't there?

Today´s meetings between Purslow and Sanchez didnt unlock anything. We are still asking 35/40 m and they are still offering only 25.
