Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

We have Kuyt and Babel. Not too concerned with that. Someone like Negredo will hardly get any playing time at all.

Kuyt is playing awsome, he is great but he is playing on the right. About Babel, he is not good enough to play Torres role. Kuyt con play it you are right, and Yossi can play Kuyt role.
Which position do you think we should improve ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Assuming Aquilani is gonna sign what do you guys think the formation will be next season? I can see him, Gerrard and Lucas all rotating depending on the opposition.

For the busparkers:

.....Masch......
Gerrard..Aquilani

For the a defensive set-up:

Masch.....Lucas
...Gerrard.....

or for a slightly more attacking defensive midfield:

Masch....Gerrard
...Aquilani.....

Guess it has it's pro's and con's compared to our "current" midfield. Think it will be somewhat weaker for the bigger teams; playing Gerrard means less composure and more Hollywood passes but a more probing midfield, whilst Lucas can do the job to keep possesion but just hasnt got the passing range to open things up.

But playing weaker teams I can see it working pretty well with both Gerrard and Aquilani taking turns to play a killerball / run into space with the attacking players.

Well, an attacking midfielder would be nice. There's so few around though, who are genuinely good. Apart from that, not much. Wanted a right back, and we've got a bloody good one.

Re: Liverpool Thread

im bit worry about our backup for right back and left back..and babel surely will make a surprise this season..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Huntelaar would be absolutely rubbish in your system. Not even worth thinking about.

I think Rafa deserves some credit for milking £30m for Xabi Alonso. He's a good, solid player but even in this crazy summer he's not worth that. Last year that would have been the british transfer record. For Xabi Alonso. Mental.

If he stays will the fans treat him well?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Milking £30million? He'll probably go for less now that he's put the transfer request in.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Quite a few rumours (papertalk) going around, apparently Liverpool have agreed everything with Aquilani and it's now subject to Alonso leaving. Real want to offer vd Vaart, Huntelaar or Negredo to make the difference for the transfer.

Not realy sure what use those players are tbh, vd Vaart will be useless with Aquilani, Kuyt, Gerrard and Beni Noon in the team. Hunterlaar isn't fast or strong enough to be a lone striker and I have no idea about Negredo. From what I know Hunterlaar is a younger Kuyt.....

Re: Liverpool Thread

From what I've seen of him (and I followed him for a while as I wanted United to sign him) the Hunter is like RVN, but without the hold up ability. Maybe more similar to Inzaghi or Trezeguet in a way. He has superb technique and more importantly that odd knack to be in the right place at the right time and the skill to put it in the net. When he was about 21 I thought he was going to be amazing as he could add other facets to his composure, but he didn't really.

The way you're setup he'd stand still all game in the centre circle. Can't get in behind, can't play in other players and doesn't have the dribbling ability to do it alone. The anti-Torres CF ;)

Babel seems much more suited to replace Torres when needed, if still raw.

Well it depends, Im sure if we lost Carrick he wouldn't go for 30M but I'd be fucking worried. players like Carrick and Alonso are what make the team tick along. without them they'll be very disjointed (Just see how things went to shit after Carrick got injured at Anfield 10 minutes in)

Mascherano can't play the ball out. he's their to play the sitting game which he does very well. Gerrard positionally is awful in CM and can't "run" a match like the two above.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If we can get Negredo and Aquilani, it would have done an amazing deal, cause that would give as some alternatives that right now, we dont have. Of course it would be better if Alonso stays, but that is out of the table.

We'll have to see how it works out but I don't think you need a CF unless Rafa expects Torres to be out for a month or 2.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You can't tell him to get a life when you're sending chilidsh PM's to people you've never even spoken to before

Re: Liverpool Thread

Can somebody tell me why you think that Gerrard is not good playing in the midfield ? I think that he is great, but I dont understang why a lot of people say he is not good enough.
Last season I remember he played against Sunderland in the midfield and he was excellent.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It depends on what type of central midfielder you want. Gerrard is a good CM, but not for the control/patience type of style Liverpool play. He's far too attack minded and ends up losing far too much possesion because he's always focused on getting the ball forward even when he should just play it back/sideways and keep possesion. That's why he isn't a good option within the current system. It's not that complicated. After all he best seasons have been when he's allowed the freedom to attack and move how he wants and CM doesn't allow that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

 Funny read, Gerrard needs freedom to bring the best out of him. Its like playing Ronaldo as a "traditional" winger.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerrard's a brilliant midfielder if he's played alongside the right one.
