Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Thats it. If he's gonna leave eventually, you'd rather do it now rather than later. From your point of view, you're gonna be aiming to win the league. And I'd rather wait to win the title with a rebuilt team that promises to stay together rather than begging the best players to stay one more year, win the title and then see the squad fall apart. Which is kinda like what's happened to us.

Re: Liverpool Thread

so you'd rather have not won the league title and not gotten to the champions league final again last season?

Re: Liverpool Thread

No if you told me I'd win the title this year instead with the new set of players. Why would you have it any other way?

I think Arsenal would have been a better example rather than United tbh, they fell apart once Pires and Henry (Amongst other) left after a long drawn out "will he, won't he" affair.

I see what you're saying and I agree, although I would rather Alonso stayed but if it just means him leaving next year for about £10m i don't really see the point. But the problem is there are thousands of impatient Liverpool fans at the minute who suddenly think that this season is the only chance we'll ever get at winning the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Agreed We did lose arguably the best player in the world. Thing is Ronaldo's role in a football team is different to Alonso's. Alonso's is the start point, Ronaldo's is the finishing. Goals can be replaced a lot easier then what players like Alonso bring.

Thats true but Im sure we are going to find a good replacemente to Xabi if he finally leaves. As I said before, Rafa is a guy that isnt wrong very often and Im confident he knows what to do.
Anyway, I just hope this Alonso thing ends soon cause Im getting tired of Valdano and Perez.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Apparently Alonso has handed in his transfer request...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Can the Liverpool Echo be trusted? Doesn't Alonso forego some payment by handing in the transfer request?

Re: Liverpool Thread

And now we are being linked with Lee Cattermole, as well with Aquilani. I just hope we can sign both. Both players shouldnt cost more than 30m, dont they ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

And now Mash's BROTHER is speaking out .. how cute. My my .. my brother's unsettled and wants to leave for Barca, if they increase their price.

Re: Liverpool Thread

How important do you think Alonso is to your team Abhi? I think without Alonso you'll struggle. Gerrard in CM is a disaster waiting to happen.

Very important. But fighting for 3rd spot at best? That's stretching it a bit mate. First of all, we will replace him with a quality midfielder. Not at the level of Alonso, but still a very good one. And secondly, I think we have enough tools to cope with the loss of Alonso anyways. I think us having Agger is a huge bonus. Plus, we have Lucas, who say what you want about him, always has been able to keep possession and move the ball about.

Alonso's departure isn't so much as a blow for losing the player, as it is that we might need to change our system. Something United will also do with losing Ronaldo. However, given that Rafa had already planned something similar last season, I have enough faith in him implementing a new system, which might be even more effective.

And Gerrard is not a disaster waiting to happen at CM. He's a rather brilliant center midfielder. It's just that him with Masch is something which isn't that good. He's a world class midfielder, if he's played with the right midfielder. Not Masch, but someone like Xabi. Gerrard with Xabi has always been brilliant.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just read in TheGuardian that Aquilani deal is practically finished and we are going to make it official as soon as Xabi Alonso goes to Madrid. We are going to buy Aquilani for 20m E.
What a pathetic club is Real Madrid, Pellegrini says that Xabi Alonso is vital for his team and indstead off paying what it cost to have him, Florentino Perez prefers buying his players. Cant wait til we win them again in the Champions League, cause they are going to fail in big since Florenino Perez is buying the players he wants, not the players Pellegrini wants.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well, let's just hope Aquilani stays fit. If he does, we have a hell of a player on our hands.

Won't be surprised now, if we get another signing. Think we have enough money left.

We should push for Negredo or Huntelaar or a player that can play Torres role cause I dont see in Ngog, Nemeth or Voronin, goals against important teams. We should have another 9 just in case Torres is injured and we have the money to get another good player.
