Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Surely only one of them is telling the truth. Gasping over Skrtel's injury ...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought someone said he was on the bench during the first half?

nope, the official line was...an ankle injury:THINK:

Meanwhile, a well trusted source on a certain website (who got the Johnson deal right when everyone said we wouldn't touch him) has said the following.

We are meeting with Sneijder's agent tomorrow, likely to be part of the Alonso deal. Real won't meet our asking price, but Rafa is concerned about time and squad morale and may take less cash and Sneijder.

Valencia continue to say Silva is not for sale, but the player and the agent have agreed preliminary terms, Silva is apparently in contact with Nando everyday about the move....

Aqiulani move to happen any day, he will be shown round Melwood in the next few days, but this also depends on the Alonso deal.

So were looking at 15m for Aquilani, Sneijder in as part exchange and 20m+ on silva. Thats a hefty outlay of nearly 55m this summer. Who else will be sold to recoup?

A bit of resentment in the squad forming against Xabi Alonso because the players think the saga is disrupting our preperations.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, Carragher has came out saying it needs to end one way or another now.

I'm liking the sounds of money and Sneijder and I can see the reason behind Rafa's thinking there (even though this is probably playing into Madrid's hands as they knew stalling would lower the price I reckon).

Heard from a few sources that the Silva deal is pretty much done and was verbally agreed with the player some time ago, just a matter of time until he signs it seems.

I think we'll get £25m-£30m for Alonso, so that'd be £15m on Aquilani and then the £20m on Silva is just a bit more that we'd get from selling Alonso anyway. Also bear in mind we likely had some money to spend anyway.

Looking forward to all of this ending and just getting the transfers in to be honest.

Re: Liverpool Thread

to be honest, if the player wants to leave the selling club is never in a strong position. I still think xabi would play to his best if he was forced to stay but the squad is growing concerned about how long this is taking, and with a question mark still over Jimmy, we have a massive problem. The core of our team potentially wants away, and we need replacements of equal caliber.

Oh and i would be fairly happy with a shopping cart of Sneijder, Johnson, Aquilani and Silva, and keeping Jim. It would certainly signal intent, and our squad will be stronger, simples. We'd still have Babel as an option down the middle, and Kuyt can play upfront too, and Ngog i think can do a job as can Voronin.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Would Gerrard drop into midfield then or onto the left if you get Silva? I can't see all that happening to be honest at all.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Probably wouldn't do to well their IMO. He hasn't played their for a while and is mostly used behind the striker these days. He doesn't have the pace to get away from defenders or the strength to hold them off. Sneijder isn't anywhere as good as Alonso defensively so a lot would be asked of Masch (if he stays).

Re: Liverpool Thread

well aquliani is a fairly balanced midfielder. Sneijder would provide options on the wings or behind the striker, as would Silva, there will be rotation however to accomodate Reira/Benayoun/Kuyt

Re: Liverpool Thread

TBH if those 3 come in I will be happy. However it doesn't look like Barcelona have a very big transfer budget. As far as Maschs agent goes he needs a big jug of Shut The Fuck Up juice!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Barca just won the Champions League, negotiate their own TV rights and were able to spend £35m on Ibra (as well as offer Eto'o as part of the deal who they could've cashed in on), where do you get the impression they've got no budget?

Sorry I meant in relation to Real. Ibrahimovic for Eto'o + cash is crazy in my opinion. But that looks to be there only main deal this season. David Villa is looking to drop his wages by 2mil euros a year if it helps Barca to sign him.

So yes they have money but not the astronomical amounts that Madrid have been spending. If they land Villa as well you are looking at almost 100m for him and Ibra

Just cant see them shelling out another 40m on top of that for the Masch.

Plus I am being hopeful he doesn't leave and in relation to our funds, or lack there of, maybe a tiny bit jealous of these Iberian heavyweights :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

What makes you think Villa is a higher priority for Barca than Mascherano?
Seeing how they've already got one new striker coming in, I'd imagine them focusing more on signing someone in another position.
And if Masch is gonna be their next and last signing, I'm sure they have enough to afford him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't think Rafa's stupid enough to do that.

You'd think but we'll have to see:SMUG:

So you'd purchase Sneijder, Aquilani and Silva who are all attacking midfielders who play in similar positions. I just don't see it. I personally don't think you have the money to buy any of them without the money you might receive from Real.

Re: Liverpool Thread

There's no way we're going to buy three of them. Aquilani will replace Alonso, and if you look at this players that play @ wing:

Kuyt, Babel, Riera, Benayoun, El Zhar.

That can only accommodate at most one more winger, either Sneijder or Silva, not both. Even if we add one, we might have to sell one or El Zhar goes back to the reserves to keep everybody a tad happy.

Re: Liverpool Thread

aquilani is not the same player as alonso, hes closer to sneijder and silva. you guys should get d'agostino if you lose alonso, i doubt that'll happen though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

For some reason I can't see a team with both Gerrard and Sneijder in it. They tend to pop up in the same areas. Bit like I didn't get how Ballack and Lampard would fit together.

Alonso looks like the new Ronaldo, shut the f*ck and leave if you want it so badly. Hand in your transfer request and stop fannying about. Let your old team have time to replace you.

I agree about Barca and the Monster Masch. Don't think they can afford him. He was £17m before the market went ape-sh*t. So looking at least £25m now. Personally I don't think he's worth it, and gets massively more recognition than he deserves, but I guess a season without Alonso next to him will make it clear.

Honest question - what language are Liverpool's training sessions in?

I think the opposite. A Gerrard-Sneijder midfielder, if it worked, could be better than our previous one. You could have one of Gerrard or Sneijder, alternating to drop deep, and get the ball, while the other plays further up front. Could be potentially more difficult to pick up for the opposition. It would require a lot more from Agger, and Aurelio to bring the ball out of defense though, but they're both fantastic passers.

Becoming a bit of a joke now. Just get it done with quickly.

Oh, and for the last question - English. Always English.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Thing is Alonso doesn't get along with Rafa while Ronaldo and Fergie are a father and son like combo.

Re: Liverpool Thread

What's your point? Not being funny or anything, I just don't get what you're trying to say :CONF:

Re: Liverpool Thread

He doesn't give a shit if Rafa or 'pool get time to find his replacement, I doubt he cares what Rafa says to him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah right, makes sense now

I agree with regards to Rafa, I doubt there's much love for Rafa at the moment. But with regards to the club, he should be a bit more respectful (and I've said this earlier as well).

It's very clear that he wants to leave, just get the deal done already and get shut of him. That might sound a bit harsh but it's damaging the squad morale, it's delaying time for a replacement and it's less time for players to gel together. Pissing me off really.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Do we have any legal beagles that can explain the Gerrard case to me? He has pleaded NOT guilty to affray: "A person is guilty of affray if he uses or threatens unlawful violence towards another" - So Stevie says, no didn't do that.

But then he gets up and says he did land 3 punches on the guy.

So is his argument that punching the guy 3 times wasn't affray? As in he's being tried for the wrong crime?

It seems to me the defense is - look it's Stevie G. He's a nice lad. Never been in trouble before, you all love him, just let him go, aight?

Can anyone imagine what the FA/media/public would have done if that was Ronaldo?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Re: Alonso.....
Maybe he feels that he was fucked around last summer so he's doing it back this summer? The plus side of him not saying he wants to leave means you guys can probably get a bit more for him. A player who wants to leave is worth less than one who doesn't (even if we all know he does).

Re: Gerrard....
That's what I though Ryan. I think what he's doing is saying it was self defence in which case it's not affray. But lamping a guy 3 times after your mate has already pushed him and elbowed him in the face because you thought he might hit you is not really self defence in my opinion.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Re Gerrard:

Think its a grey area, what do you do if you feel threatend? Defend yourself USA style or wait it out and counter attack. I think it's decent angle they are going for considering what's been said up to now. With the one guy saying he thought Gerrard had punched him and he went towards him whilst Gerrard is saying he thought he was going to go for him (which would be reasonable as the other guy thought Gerrard had punched him) so defended himself proactively. Its a bit of a mess and not very clear in some ways which is what they want so they can get a lesser punishment.

Re: Alonso

I think he's not requesting a transfer to get the loyalty bonus, but then I'm just cynical.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Doesn't matter. We'll sell Xabi if Real meet our evaluation. If they don't, Xabi stays, and he's smart enough to know that he needs to perform to stay in contention in a World Cup year.
