Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's true though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

That could be money we already had tho, Petrov. Didn't Rafa say we had enough money to make one more big signing after we signed Johnson?

to be honest 15m could be considered a big signing, or Rafa knew Xabi was going to go eventually so took into account a large chunk of money.

Aqualani is a very young promising midfield maestro, but it just doesn't excite me, Sneijder would!. His injury problems concern me!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wow, if what the prosection said today about Gerrard is true he might not play for quite a few months this season.

err doubt it.

I found the whole boxing thing hilarious. Such a sexed up prosecution statement. To be honest, the footage doesn't look good but its hardly clear cut, and you would need to hear what was said by both parties to make a judgement.

What happened to Terry for lamping a Security Guard? Nothing.

I said 'if what they said is true' (which of course it might not be and is likely to be exagerrated) and I imagine if it was then he would be in a lot of trouble, that's all I meant.

The video's do look bad, but the actual fight is really hard to make out, the only clear bit was the elbow which we already know wasn't Gerrard and then him being restrained which of course indicates that he was heavily involved.

Anyway I can't see him getting a prison sentence. Like you say about Terry (he's got away with allsorts), I can see Gerrard getting away with it too. He's pleaded not guilty whilst all the others pleaded guilty, so to me it seems the guys with lesser profile are taking the rap for him but if he IS found guilty, then his plea will make things worse for him.

Who knows what'll happen, I'm not holding my breath for time though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's being tried by jury in a city where he's the captain and local boy made good of the biggest club in the city, unless the jury's made up of 12 bluenoses he'll walk scot-free.

Lol !!! :APPLAUD:

Me thinks this is what will happen ..

Re: Liverpool Thread

"He was clearly guilty, it's only because the jury were all Liverpool fans!"

That's all we'll hear from Utd and Everton fans for the rest of Gerrard's career now.

In other news:

08.30 Liverpool midfielder Javier Mashcerano is keen to secure a move to Spain as he has grown "tired of life in England", according to his agent.

Kind of annoying that we have one of our best seasons for years and came so close to getting the title, and the following season we're facing up to losing two of our most influential players. I guess that's a problem with buying foreign players though, especially from leagues of similar status to the Premier League.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I can't imagine Rafa letting both leave. And I do think he has enough power to stop them. Just be interesting test of their professionalism to see how they perform if that does happen.

Re: Gerrard - He got in a bar fight. So what. Fine him and move on. Shows he's a first class pr*ck, but that's hardly news. I expect the only thing to come out of it is a 4 match ban for Patrice Evra.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It will be messed up if both go, and tbh I can see that happening. Not sure their work effort will be high enough if they want out and are forced to stay. But then again, having them play at 10% is better then Lucas at 100%.

It's a fair point though Dags, just as NSH said he's the captain of the main team in the city the trial is held, it should have been at Preston or Wigan Crown Court or something.

8 men on 1 isn't exactly a fight and all over the 'one' 'disrespecting' big Stevie... you make a good point about Evra though ;).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Thing is even if you keep Alonso and Masch then your keeping players that don't want to be their. I can see Rafa telling them both to stick it out for the season to help the club try and win the league and then they can move on.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No, Gerrard got into a fight and threw some punches. Oh no! Quick, give him the death penalty! He's responsible for the other seven people so he needs severely punishing.

No, as Ryan said, he got into a bar fight. That's all. People trying to make it worse than it is need to get a grip.

Abhi, it's on sites like BBC news and Sky News.

The guy didn't even bring a proper case to the court. He brought it on the basis that he was "100% sure" Gerrard hit him first but has now seen the CCTV and changed his mind

I agree. At the end of the day, if a player really wants to leave then they wont be fully committed. Let them go as long as you get a fair price.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Getting sick and tired of Xabi and Mash to be honest. I'd force Mash to stay but if hes tired of England (which to be honest, i am too) then it will affect his performances.

Xabi wasn't in the squad at all for the 1-1 draw this afternoon. He's a goner.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought someone said he was on the bench during the first half?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Try Sky news website that's where I watched it.

Bascially if you can't find it the CCTV shows Gerrard washing his hands behind the bar, then talking to the other guy, someone else throws an elbow in his face and there's a scuffle which is supposed to Gerrard punching him and then it shows Gerrard and another guy being restrained and held back and dragged out of the bar. That's why I said it wasn't a bar fight, it seems they ganged up on the guy. Anything more than 3:1 is not a fight is it.

You make it sound like him and his mates knocking some guys teeth out is nothing worth bothering with. With Gerrard admitting to throwing the first punch I can hardly see how it's just 'nothing'. For all of his mates to jump in just because he wanted to change the music is pretty pathetic.

I wonder what Joey Barton's thinking of all this.

Re: Liverpool Thread

But Gerrard didn't throw the first punch, one of his mates did.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It just said on the news that he's admitted to throwing the first punch.

They said that in court he said the other guy told Gerrard that he doesn't decide what music they're playing, they argued then the guy stood up. Gerrard claims he thought he was getting up to attack him so he threw the first punch and then 3 more. Then I'm guessing his mates jumped in because it was an unfair fight.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nope, read that BBC report up above. The guy has since came out and said after seeing the CCTV he knows it wasn't Gerrard who threw the first punch even though he was 100% sure it was him initially.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Mr McGee, who was initially struck by Mr Gerrard's friend John Doran, said he thought the footballer hit him first.

Mr McGee said: "I remember a barrage of punches coming in at my face but I didn't know who has done what.

Looking at my hand movements I was asking him how he would react if somebody came up to him and wanted to take something off him in a manner I found to be rude
Marcus McGee

"Having watched the CCTV it was obvious Steven Gerrard hits me a couple of times, maybe three times, but I couldn't honestly say on the night.

"I didn't know who did what."

Re: Liverpool Thread

The court heard Mr Gerrard said he wanted to sort the problem out - as he had on other occasions when he had been "mithered" - so went back to discuss the problem with him.

The footballer said he believed Mr McGee was going to attack him.

"He stood up quite aggressively out of his stool and I thought to myself 'I am not going to be able to sort this out in the way I wanted'," he told police.

"I thought he was going to give me a smack," he added.

"He was shouting back and I didn't know what he was saying but he started arguing and I thought he was going to hit me so that's why I threw a punch."

Mr Gerrard admitted throwing three punches but told the police only one connected.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hold on, are you talking about the first punch in general or just between the two of them?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Erm well I only heard on the radio that Gerrard said he threw the first punch. I assume they were talking about 'just between the two of them'.
