Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Goood News.

He was always gonna snub Chelsea IMO, hasn't he said something like he hates everything about Chelsea? (he'll fit right in) :D and that he fell out of love with football there.

there are questions over his tempremant, but I'm sure Rafa can straighten him out, playing consistently at the highest level should do that anyway.

Yeah I don't think he was ever gonna go back there after last time. Good solid signing for you.

Re: Liverpool Thread

 Whats with the photoshopped players, Benzema in the United thread and Johnson in here.

Re: Liverpool Thread

More from Masch about Barca and Real, no smoke without fire and all that.

£40m or more please.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think you'd get about 30M. Who would you replace him with?

Masch?

Don't think he (or Xabi) will leave, but if he does, Rafa's going to play hardball. Won't surprise me if we try to include Yaya Toure in the deal. Same with Real, either of the two Diarra's.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool Football Club - which owes two banks £350m - is close to renegotiating its debt with the Royal Bank of Scotland, the BBC has learnt.

RBS has told club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett the debt, due to be repaid in July, will be refinanced.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Eto'o would be a good fit for you - if you can keep him happy as a third choice front player. Or you'd move Gerrard back to midfield.

Interesting...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa has pretty much confirmed Arbeloa will be leaving as well :(

Benitez also pointed out that the transfer signalled their intent to buy big despite the club's parent company, Kop Holdings, posting losses of up to £42.6million last year.

The former Valencia boss even states that Reds fans can expect one more big money signing without the need to sell any of their top stars.

"We have a plan," he told the Liverpool Echo. "We can sign one more player if necessary, but that's without any players leaving.

That sounds good though!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I doubt it will be a big name or anything. You can probably scrape 15M together to get someone (Presuming Masch/Alonso stay)

Re: Liverpool Thread

It will surely be a 20mil signing? How much did we get back from Keane, 12mil? Johnson has cost 17-7? so we have spent -2mil. 15 to 20 mil would have been the expected amount for the summer so it looks like it will be. Not sure who you can get for that these days though. If Dossena and Arby leave it's another 12-15mil. So a player between 20 and 30mil could be a big signing.

Re: Liverpool Thread

From a Liverpool website

Here's a story courtesy of the Spanish journalist Miguel Angel Vara, which was related to me earlier - in case people start demanding sources.

Madrid sent some representatives to negotiate over Alonso and Arbeloa at the end of last week. They offered a straight deal including some of the Dutch contingent (Van der Vaart and Sneijder), then they offered Gago, and then they offered Negredo. Each time, Rafa asked what values Madrid were placing on these players and finally burst into incredulous laughter. "Remind me - who beat whom by five goals to nil in the Champions League? he tells the now flustered Madrid negotiators. "Only it must be us who lost, because my players, whom you are wanting to take away, are worth nothing, whereas yours, whom you are trying to discard, each seem to have higher values". And the negotiations ended there and then!

Priceless. That's the kind of story that makes me realise just how lucky we are with the manager we have. I do feel that familiarity has bred contempt over the last few years for many of the regulars on here, but I hope at least some of them can still appreciate tales like this!

By the way, Vara thinks that the Alonso deal may not happen - firstly because Rafa wants 40million euros, and not a penny less, but also because of his poor relations with Valdano who seems to be in charge of Madrid's transfers - these go back to when they were both on the Madrid coaching staff in the 90s, although of course not helped by Valdano describing Liverpool's style of play as "sh*t on a stick" - Rafa has not forgotten, and certainly not forgiven, that...

Rafa :WORSHIP::WORSHIP:

Re: Liverpool Thread

thats absolute class if true!!!

shit on a stick. 5-0 you useless galatico cunts! :D

I liked Madrid back in the Redondo/Raul/Miajatovic days, but ever since they went all high and mighty, "biggest club in the world", bailed out consistently by the government, won 5 of their EC's when no-one else was playing etc.

I just have a better feeling about this window (even if Mash goes) because Rafa seeeems to have more of a say in everything about the club, from the academy, to transfers, to staff appointments.

If Mash goes I'm sure we'll get a nice new name that i can replace on a shirt whilst throwing away my 07/08 european with Mash on the back.

Benitez said earlier on that he could break our transfer record this year. So that means OVER 20m. Lots of insider sources suggested we are working on a massive transfer, the very next day and Alonso AND Mash rumours came out.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's refreshing seeing Rafa defend our club as our transfer policy moneywise has been shocking for years - I was always disgusted that Owen went for 8 mill (granted a year left on his contract) when they sold him only months later for 16/17 mill. Real Madrid take the piss - we played them off the park in the CL this year and this is how they react? Surely Alonso and Mascherano have more sense? Barcelona, I feel have reached their playing peak and need new team members - Henry, Puyol, Gudjohnsen, etc are no spring chickens!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Go on Rafa!

Same here Petrov, got a good feeling about our transfers this summer :)

Same here

Just know that when Rafa's doing the transfers, you know it's not going to be anything stupid. Smart, calculated transfers.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You lot have to remember that people like Morientes, Keane, Dossena were all signed because Rafa wanted them, so don't think much will really change.

Re: Liverpool Thread

@ Abishek - I'm all with most of the good news on here about sticking it to Real, but seriously? Smart, calculated transfers? Always?

That's like me saying Ronaldo never dives. Oh wait, I can say that now. Diving c*nt he is... ;)

Not a lot of people believe Rafa wanted Keane as much as made out, especially at the price paid. And those players you pointed out are all clearly very good players who just didn't work at Liverpool.

Us being confident about this summer is more with regards to us not missing out on players anymore because Parry botches them up. We'd have never been able to sign Glen Johnson for £17m had we still had Parry doing the transfers. We've missed out on some top talent because of that clown and we're pretty sure that'll change now that Rafa is in full control and knows exactly what he believes a player is worth.

Yup

No guarantee that they'll be a success, but they'll be what we need.

Leto off to Panathanaikos for 4M euros.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The Leto deal is pretty good. Looks like Voronin will be off too, as well as Arbeloa and Dossena so that should be another £15m-£20m from those deals.

Yup. We can also write off 7M from the Johnson transfer, and I doubt we have paid the full 10M to them anyways. We've got enough left for hopefully, an attacking midfielder, and a central defender (especially if Arby's is being sold).
