Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Now Pompey have accepted Chelsea's bid so its really down to the player and wages offered.

Think he would be better choosing Liverpool as they have stability, solid defensive coaching and if he does well will become a regular for quite a few years. At Chelsea he won't know which manager he'll be playing for and at a team that's regressing instead of developing. But then again he will probably be offered more money and he's likely to know all the good B&Q's/clubs in the area. And closer to family?

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's agreed terms with us already and gave his word to Rafa that he'd sign, also saying we were his preferred club.

So the way I look at it, if he goes to Chelsea then we're better off without him if he's going to turn around like that. If he comes to us then at least he's good to his word.

I'm not majorly fussed if we don't get him. It's a lot of money for a right-back and I'm not sure he's worth that much when we could use that money to help buy someone like Villa. If we do sign him then I'm happy enough, I trust Rafa to make good signings for the most part.

Re: Liverpool Thread

DAVID MOORES has dramatically resigned from Liverpool Football Club’s board of directors.

The former chairman was known to be "shell-shocked" and "heartbroken" at the running of the club since he accepted a deal from Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The club last night confirmed the resignation on its website. He will remain honorary life president.

His leaving coincides with the end-of-season departure date set by his close ally and chief executive, Rick Parry.

Re: Liverpool Thread

What's with the press constantly linking our players to everyone? According to the press, we'll have no team next summer and have just signed Johnson (or maybe not as the press are implying now).

So far leaving us we've got/had Reina, Dossena, Agger, Arbeloa, Benayoun, Alonso, Mascherano, Babel and Torres. So pretty much our whole first team then.

Re: Liverpool Thread

LIVERPOOL are set to score their first victory of the new season over Chelsea – by clinching the signature of Glen Johnson from Portsmouth.

Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie has confirmed that the England full-back had been given permission to speak to TWO clubs.

“Glen has got permission to speak to two clubs and I think that is what he is going to do,” he said.

“The matter will come to a conclusion next week. I do not have a preference over the move, it is up to Glen and his agent. The deals are almost identical so it is really down to him and what club he prefers.”

Liverpool, however, remain confident that the £17m defender has made up his mind on a move to Anfield.

He is expected to cut short a holiday to have a medical this weekend.

Xabi Alonso, meanwhile, was asked about his long-term future yesterday and cryptically replied: “I cannot respond to that. But each player thinks about the future.

“It's clear that on the outside there are reports about your future, but you cannot do much and the only thing you can do is train normally.”

Alonso has three years remaining on his Anfield contract and Rafael Benitez does not want to sell the Spanish midfielder.

He will only consider a transfer if Alonso makes it clear he wants to leave, and if a club meets his valuation of the player.

Only Real Madrid are likely to be able to meet an asking price in the region of #20m-plus.

I'd be very disappointed to lose Alonso but I do believe Rafa wants to keep him and will refuse any bids for him if Alonso is happy to stay. But if Alonso wants to leave, then sod him and let him go.

EDIT: Just read that the real interview Alonso actually said he wouldn't be disappointed to be at Liverpool next season and was laughing. Apparantly the Daily Mail (who had the original story) had the story posted that Alonso pledged his future to Liverpool but then changed the headline and made it sound like he wants to leave.

Journalism :BRICK:

I wish I could go to a football NEWS site and actually read FACTUAL NEWS, not some shite that a journalist has interpreted how he/she wants it.

tell me about it, yesterday i saw the headline "Arbeloa: I'd gladly move to Real Madrid to make way for Johnson"

of course this was from the Daily Mail.

these were the quotes:

" 'I am happy at Liverpool, but I have something to prove in Spain as I did not show my best form in La Liga. One day, I'm sure I will return.

'It is always nice to be linked to big teams - even to this Madrid side in a time of transition. They are working hard to build a great team.

'I have one more year remaining on my Liverpool deal, but anything can happen.

'A contract renewal is in the air. I am contracted for one more year, but if Liverpool get an offer, they will consider it. It is all in the hands of my agent.'"

at no point does he say he'll gladly leave, at no point does he mention johnson.

the daily mail is one of the worst newspapers in the world.

Re: Liverpool Thread

More footballers should sue newspapers for the shite they come out with, maybe then the press wouldn't spout as much and concentrate on facts instead.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Mascherano could leave, I think Real have admitted it would be hard to sign Alonso and I see Xabi as a pretty loyal player so won't push for a move, on the other hand I think Mascherano will probably push for a move to Barca, wether Rafa gives in is another story.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rumour has it Mascherano's wife isn't settled and wants to move to Spain so we might not have much control of him moving to Barca. If he does go, I'd hope we got some top money for him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

footballers have a twisted mindset it depends on their surroundings atm and reading quotes from so called quote doesn`t do justice. Is it not until the 1st of July players can move?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Officially they don't move until then but contracts can be signed so that players move on that date.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Someone (a well trusted member) on the Liverpoolfc.tv message boards said he has a mate who works at Liverpool (not in the shop or burger bars ) who has told him Liverpool are "for all intents and purposes" now owned by the Kuwait consortium and DIC are also involved, but nothing will be announced until July, giving Rafa the chance to do his dealings in the transfer market first, that way the prices won't fly up to ridiculous levels because as far as everyone is concerned we have very little money.

Someone else has also posted this: "I've just got some info from a friend of mine here in Dubai whose father works for Nasser Al-Kharafi, saying that LFC and him are in negotiations for a proposed ownership change. I'm pretty confident about this information and hope to see our future sorted out quickly."

after the usual barrage of questions he said this: "No chance he got his info mixed. My friend's father is regional manager of Al-Kharafi's engineering company as well as his close friend."

could be interesting.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Barcelona offered 41m € for Masche. What do you think about this ? Thats the same amount of money that Chelsea has offered for Villa. I think that with that money we can buy Villa, cause he would definitly would want to come to a place full of spanish and Torres-Villa would incredible, altough now he has been declared not intransferible (dont know how to say it in english)

Re: Liverpool Thread

If those figures are correct then i think i'd rather keep Masch than sign Villa personally.

Re: Liverpool Thread

well they're not correct because no offer has been recieved as of yet, it's just press talk at the minute. There's no proof anywhere that Barca are even going to make a bid, it's all coming from the Daily Mail and his wanker of an agent.

Mascherano's on holiday in Argentina at the minute so we won't hear anything concrete for a week or so yet.

There are a couple of things that nobody is taking into account at the minute.

1. In an interview with Setanta last month he basically said he's happy and has no reason to leave: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/archivedirs/mediawatch/2009/may/MW14669090511-1612.htm

2. He has just paid up the next years rent for his property in Liverpool, i know this may seem trivial but even footballers don't throw their money away so easily.

3. Liverpool confirmed just 6 days ago that we had recieved no approach from any club for either Mascherano and Alonso, and we wouldn't be willing to listen to any offers if they were to come in.

The thing is that according to all newspapers Masche's wife is not confortable at England and wants to leave to Spain.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cech has his quality..but..

personaly i consider a good keeper not by his clean sheet if he has world clas defenders before him...

that is why among the best keepers in Euro was Akinfeev from Russia, that guy is better than some great keepers...he has great records playing with bad defence, well not as good as Cech or Reina has..

Reina is amazing, and for me he is better each year, on the same level as Cech no doubt..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Drip drip drip - the tabloids keep it up despite everyone saying they are fine as they are. Seems they can't write any decent stories in the summer. What is wrong with in depth discussions on tactics etc? I despair.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not sure why you would want Villa, would put you in the same situation that you had with Keane. 4-2-3-1 works, if it aint broke...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Exactly. If Rafa can instil some confidence in Babel you've got some quality backup there, N'gog seems alright plus you guys seem confident Nemeth will be a goodun so I can't see the sense in breaking up the formation Rafa has been building for the last few seasons by signing a world class striker and changing to 4-4-2.

Johnson would be a good signing, maybe another winger to give you some real quality on the left (Riera is quite average IMO) and another central midfielder (in case Masch or Xabi leave in the next season or two) then you'll be sorted.
