Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

While UJ has probably been quite blunt and to the point, he's right. As a Liverpool fan, you really should know the history a bit more and understand why The Sun is frowned upon by Liverpool fans and Merseyside in general.

It's hard not to be blunt about this sort of thing, my brother was at Hillsborough and survived, and as it was the 20th anniversary recently, i find it hard to believe that any Liverpool fan would still be this ignorant about it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I know that. I know everything about Liverpool history, about April 15 1989 and how it was use to convince a goverment that didnt know a shit about football to create a Premier League that wasnt necessary.
I just read The Sun to practise my english, cause i dindt know any other newspaper and as I previously said that I find The Sun a poor paper.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You don't know about the lies the Sun printed about Liverpool fans and Scousers then?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, and all the rest.

I suggest reading something else than The Sun, it doesn't go down well with Liverpool fans at all, especially here in Liverpool.

Jumbo has mentioned the better ones to read, check those out instead.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Of course I know. They said that it was all fault of the drunked hoolligans that enter to the stadium without a ticket, while it was the police fault that open entrace that they shouldnt.

they also said that Liverpool fans pissed on corpses, attacked police, stole from the bodies.

It's been boycotted by Liverpool fans ever since, any Liverpool fan reading it should be ashamed of themselves.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Probably not a good idea to discuss Hillsbrough on here. It's a very sensitive subject to a lot of Liverpool fans and it's pretty much a certainty that arguments will happen.

Ok dude, I ve only read TheSun two times in my life and it was last week to read about Cristiano's transfer. Plus, I dont live in Liverpool, I live in Argentina (River fan). Fortunately, I ve been there on January but only one day cause I was in London. I could just go to the stadium and make the stadium and museum tour, then drink some beer at the liverpool bar, do some walk through the city and then again back to London.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Tbh reading The Sun, whether youre a Pool fan or not, isn't the best way to learn english either. ;)

If you want football news I would suggest Football356.com . Has amusing stories aswell and if you take it with a pinch of salt it won't wind you up when your club is on the receiving end of their banter.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Let's not discuss such sensitive topics here.

frangoitia, You'd rather stay away from the Sun, they're fucking shite, and to this day, post lies about our club.

Seems like we're very close to signing Johnson. Great news, because he's going to add a totally new dimension to our attack, which we didn't have earlier. Great way to turn those draws into wins.

Don't care about the price, as long as Rafa gets his man.

good idea.

(don't worry i can't be arsed arguing at the minute lol)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Insua didnt have a bad game all season, he tore Arsenal apart too.

I think he started 11 games, we won 10 and drew 1 (arsenal)

The reserves were poor this year but the season before they won everything they could win, and Insua was a massive part of that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

oh and did anyone see Fernando's...well stunning hat-trick in the confed cup last night??

Top corner curler from edge of the box, an angled tap in from a cross and a thumping header (the height he got on the jump was unreal)

demonstrated how he is probably the best all round CF in the world.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cracking goals, especially the first and the header (where did the power come from?!). Villa looked quality again as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No doubt you probably have the best player in the league know in Nando, Pure class he is. Im sure our number 10 may change that over the course of next season or even the next 7 :))

Re: Liverpool Thread

If Xabi stays and Torres and Gerrard are in good shape most of the season, this premier we have no competitors. Manchester without Cristiano is going to be really difficult. Plus in Chelsea, Ancelloti sucks, I think that the only guy on the world that could change Crespo against us in Istanbul when he was the best man on the match and had score two goles was him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

i hate this attitude that without Ronaldo, Man Utd will fall completely out of the title race. It just makes no sense. Yes i'll agree that without him they would have struggled last season, just as they did when he was injured, and it will be difficult to find someone who can win a game on their own, but Man Utd have proven time and time again that you can't ever count them out, they'll now have about £100m to spend this summer (ok the way the market's going that might just be enough to afford two reserve players), they'll bring in a couple of big named players.

They really need an out-and-out centre forward who can score goals, they've got Berbatov and Rooney who sit either just behind the striker or on the wing, but no real goalscorers, they haven't needed one because Ronaldo was prolific enough, but i think if they do sign someone like Villa, Eto'o, Benzema etc a proper centre forward, then assuming they settle quickly like Torres did, they won't miss Ronaldo at all because the main thing he offered was goals, but with someone up top who can bang them in, they'll be just as dangerous.

Chelsea will be dangerous again, i don't rate Ancelotti but Abramovic won't want him to fail and i think the cheque book will be out again this summer, they'll bring in a couple of big star players to bolster their squad and if they can get Anelka and the cheating diving scum that is Drogba playing well together they can be a huge threat.

Liverpool have a quality team in place at the minute but we need to strengthen in some key areas, i think we still need more of a threat from the wings, Riera's inconsistent, Kuyt's not a winger and only really looks quality when he's played in the centre. If we get Silva and Johnson i'll be very happy with the team and very confident of doing something major next season. Last season Gerrard and Torres hardly played together because of injuries, i think even the bitterest of Mancs would accept that had we had them both fit all season, it would have been much closer at the top. If we can keep those two fit next season we'll have a great chance of winning the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You're right about not writing off Fergie and United. Many people in the media have made that mistake before and been made to look stupid.

I agree if Gerrard and Torres had've played more then you probably would've done better but if Ronaldo hadn't missed the start of the season and Rooney hadn't been injured for large chunks (plus almost our entire defence), the same could be said for us. Not to mention Chelsea missing Essien and Carvalho for most of the season and Drogba and Malouda only playing well when Hiddink took over. Then there's Arsenal having more players injured than they did available for the majority of the time and it kinda evens out. Injuries are a part of football and all teams have to deal with them.

Next season will certainly be an interesting race with any of the top 4 capable of winning it. I think it'll largely depend on who is brought in over the next couple of months for each team and then obviously how well they settle in.

Gerrard's better though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He is.

Torres is deadly up front but Gerrard is the driving force of the team, he can drag us out of the shit and has done several times.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Interesting, I certainly feel Torres is better but if you say so. Torres is very similar to Ronaldo IMO but maybe just not as good :))
