Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Heh, maybe I did go a bit over the top there. Not really up there with Cannavaro and Ayala in their prime, but he's just a level below for me. And certainly one of the best in the Premier League in recent years.

Still, there's no one as aerially dominant as he is :P

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'd have to say Hyypia was a better defender in his prime than Ferdinand is (or has been) personally.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Last season I think most people would agree that Ferdinand was the best defender in Europe (and therefore the world). I like Hyypia, think he's a great pro, but I've never heard him accused of being the best.

Just sayin...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've not heard anyone suggest Ferdinand is the best defender in Europe, he's not even the best English defender in my opinion. Terry is miles better.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Since when does speed come into it? Are all of the worlds top defenders blessed with pace? I think you'd fine they're not. Rio makes FAR too many mistakes to be classed as being one of the best in Europe.

Re: Liverpool Thread

:LMAO: I'm playing Hotel Dusk on my Nintendo DS and one of the characters has just ranted "This... conversation is beyond the pale, sir! Beyond the pale indeed!"

Fergie in a DS game

Re: Liverpool Thread

Dags you said yourself you only really watch Liverpool matches so how you can judge who's the best defender I dont know?!

Rio doesn't make many mistakes at all (certainly no more than any other top defender) and it's just a lazy smear on him that's been hanging around since his earlier years when he did make a couple (Iike all young defenders do). It's a convenient thing to use for those who like to criticize him.

And I think most Chelsea fans would tell you that Terry is half the player he was since his back injuries.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've seen enough of watching Utd on TV and England games to see that Ferdinand is mistake-prone but then I expect you to defend him to the hilt anyway, you're hardly the most fair fan around here when it comes to judging Utd without bias  ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hyypia lacked pace, that was all. Everything else was...perfect, even his distrobution was excellent.

Far better in the air than even Vidic IMO.

He never got the credit he deserved because when he was top dog we were on the edge of the European Elite.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Erm, I know I'm a United fan so wear some red tints - but Ferdinand was absolutely immense last year. We barely conceeded in the entire CL, not to mention our defense in the league. (and the way we played wasn't very defensive last year!) He's fast, good in the air, probably the best footballing defender in the country (even scored a cracking full volley goal...) and reads the game very well.

Labelling him with the 'dozy' tag is like saying Ronaldo is a one trick pony with no end product. They're both outdated, lazy stereotypes that aren't true.

Who in Europe was better last year? He was the captain and most consistent player in the best defense in Europe. Surely that counts for something?

I agree Sami was immense in the air, but I wouldn't rate any of his other attributes over Rio (in footballing terms - I'd never ever want to spend an evening with Mr. Ferdinand...)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Its like that with a lot of United players. Most of their stereotypes arent true which is why the manager kept faith in those players. How often was Hargreaves criticised? How many times did we make fun of Fletcher for being shit? Its the same with Ronaldo who is now having to suffer for his past reputation as a diver. I'll be the first to put my hand up and admit it but I rarely see him hit the floor the way he used to.
But sticking to the discussion, Rio's ability to read the game is the main reason he's so good and many people over look that. There arent many better defenders in the world when Rio's playing well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Sami the slug better than Rio,?? WTF you smokin mate?

c'mon dude as if...

its the famous scouse humour...

cos the world knows...

Rio's medals > sami herpes medals..

wait thats not fair Rio has won EVERYTHING...

errm...

vidic (3 1/2 years into utd career) medals > hypias medals..

end of....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Djimi Traore has won a Champions League medal, therefore he's better than most defenders in the Premier League ... right? Because players with medals > players without medals ... right?

Your logic > everyone elses.

How many medals does Vidic have incidently? Seems to me that Hyypia has more medals for Liverpool than Vidic does for United?

Completely rubbish point there and laughable attempt at trying to make a point

ahh but you cant qualify a statement like..

"sami hypia is better than either Rio of Vidic"

that and any response (from both of us) are only gonna be subjective (even tho you know deep down)

but as your manager highlighted earlier this season..

you canny hide from FAKHS...

Re: Liverpool Thread

yeah and how long has Hypia been at Liverpool compared to vidic at Utd? cant compare,

Re: Liverpool Thread

But according to you more medals means the better player. And the "fakhs" show that Hyypia has won more medals, so therefore is a better player.

So yeah, you might as well just give up now

thats not fair we never play in uefa cup :FAIL:

and I dont see any Prem Titles on the herpes list :FAIL:

so basically your saying...

vidic 3 1/2 years @ Utd > hypias 10 years @ lfc....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres didn't win much at Atletico, therefore he's shite. Right? Because it doesn't matter if you're one of the best players in the galaxy, if the players around you aren't good enough, then you're not going to win anything are you?

Pointless comment again

I'm saying your arguement is COMPLETELY flawed and you can't say medals are any kind of indication as to how good a player is. You still haven't got my point after all of these posts?

MEDALS. DO. NOT. MEASURE. A. PLAYERS. SKILL.

Fahkt
