Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gotta say well played and unlucky.

Showed real heart but maybe it was just too much to do.

Match of the season IMO.

Worries me now though that you've only got the league to focus on, means you can put all your efforts into it.

Sounds weird to say hopefully we'll go out tomorrow as well and then only have the league as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh, and Lampard > Gerrard, ability and personality wise. Nice to see him show some sportsmanship in the interview.

why? you have the squad and you're gonna need to pick up big ears another two times without answer to match us.

Can't agree with that at all I'm afraid :SHAKE:

I think I'm actually hoping for a Utd win tomorrow, as Matherto has said, it'll keep the Mancs busy on that while we focus on the league now :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

As I've said in our thread, winning the Champions League is nice, it really is, but it doesn't compare to fighting with your biggest rivals to be the best in the country.

I guess if it was Arsenal or Chelsea then I'd be more bothered about tomorrow, but 'cause it's you guys, it matters a whole lot more. :P:D

Doesn't help really that we've gotta pull off something completely out of the blue like you almost did to go onto the semis...where we'll probably get beaten by either Arsenal or Villareal anyways...and if we beat them...Barca...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Which part, the ability or personality bit? I find Carragher to be a much more down to earth, level headed professional then Gerrard.

Well in interviews Gerrard always praises the other team so that's good enough for me. And talent-wise, I rate Gerrard much higher than Lampard, quite a fair bit higher. I just don't think Lampard is all that to be honest.

On another note, good to see Rafa bring on a youth player in Ngog for an important game ;) He did well too, he's clearly getting better with each game and shows a lot of heart when he's played.

On another note again, if Drogba is "injured" and is off the pitch, is he allowed to roll onto the pitch again? I think the commentary said it might just be an English thing but the ref should've have even allowed him back on the pitch until he got permission if he rolled off it, and the ref certainly shouldn't have stopped the game either. That pissed me right off.

Fair enough but quite a fair bit higher? I don't think there's that much difference in terms of overall ability. IMO, Gerrard is probably the more rounded in terms of ability but Lampard has slightly more ability overall.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I agree with Abou. Ability wise there's isnt a great deal between them but in general terms, Gerrard has to be accomodated into a team, usually at the expense of another player. If you play him centre midfield with one other, he can be either fairly ineffecitve or he leaves the other player exposed. Otherwise you have to sacrifice a forward to have him in a free role.

Lampard is far more tactically aware and can play that role perfectly as well as a more advanced role. The myth that all his goals are lucky deflections is ridiculous and the media have played a huge part in the notion that he is inferior to Gerrard. Why do you think Gerrard plays left midfield for England and not in the middle? Capello can see that he is more affective when he has less defensive duties and does not have to be so positionally sound. People seem to forget that Gerrard has cost Liverpool goals in the past where other players are forever cursed for similar.

Lampard has a better goal and assist rate than Gerrard despite playing further back (both take penalties and freekicks so that cannot be used against him).

And that's without talking about his personality and proffesionalism. It's not all about praising the opposition after matches. While Gerrard may naturally be better technically, Lampard has worked very hard at improving his game and working on his weaknesses to get where he is. You never hear about him fighting in nightclubs or involved in any trouble and it really irritates me to see Gerrard constantly lauded as some sort of hero when Lampard is ridiculed for being fat and crap?!

Edit: I forgot to mention the inexplicable diving Gerrard does (I know Rooney & Ronaldo do it, I'm not talking about them) together with speaking out about being against cheating, this is hardly the sign on a good proffesional. Lampard may have gone down easily a couple of times in his career but none that stick in my mind and never a swan dive like m Gerrard does.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Being a Liverpool fan is the best thing in the world, even when we lose we do it gloriously.
Anywhay, if next season we want to win the CL again we need to buy some players. I think that the main problem in our team is the GK and the defense. Reina (although i dont think he was responsible for the first goal) doesnt bring any security, and our defense is even worst.
We need to take advantage of Carrizo situation in Lazio (i know him, im from argentina and ive seen all his match in River at the stadium) and buy him. Same way with Albiol, Valencia doesnt have money.

Anyway, here is my eleven:

-----------------------Carrizo ----------------------
-Carragher------Albiol-------Agger-----------E. Insua
-----------------Masche-------------------------------
--------------------------Xabi Alonso-----------------
--Kuyt----------------------------------------Benayoun
----------------------------Gerrard-------------------
------------------Torres------------------------------

Re: Liverpool Thread

I love this club, women can go and take a jump, nothing gives me more pleasure than everything about Liverpool. Okay, we're nowhere near the finished article, but compare our fans tonight and the spirit of the team with the placcy flags and a hulk of a striker rolling around and feigning injury from the first minute, to the last (rolling around in pain IN STOPPAGE time, when we needed TWO GOALS and he had already gestured that the game was over)

I'm sorry If i sound bitter. Chelsea are a fantastic TEAM (strongest squad in england), they now have the manager, they have the chequebook.

Drogba, probably the best striker in the world IMO, Torres not far behind, is the biggest cunt in the game. It depletes your faith in humanity when you see so much talent being ruined by cheating, cuntishness and arrogance.

Lampard gave us credit in the post match, drogba said nothing.

Can't fault any Liverpool players tonight, mistakes were made yes, and we'll work on that, but oh my word, the heart!

if we had a thankyou button, i would click it on your post right there..

good post mate, i agree completly (except for the women part and drogba being the best)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Your eleven includes Kuyt, therefore it isn't good enough.

And Carragher at Right Back just doesn't work.
I dont like Carragher, actually, i think he is awful, but we dont have anyone better for that position.
About Kuyt, he is an excelent player, he appears and scores in importante matchs and he can play in a lot of position.

Reina, is horrible ! Maybe he is good at penalty shootings but he has the biggest errors ive ever seen. We need a good GK now if we want to win the premier or champions again.

Re: Liverpool Thread

kuyt is a great squad player, he wouldnt get in any of the other big 3s starting 11s. he does play well and come up with some big goals and provides good defensive cover but he wouldnt even get a look in at united, chelsea or arsenal.

Not to get into a my gerrard is bigger then your lampard discussion as obviously Lampard is bigger what with all the pies and stuff ;)

But saying that Lampard is better in a 2 man midfield is bollocks. Why do you think Chelsea have had so much trouble in midfield when Ballack came and Makalele was out injured and any match they have played with just 2 cm. Lampard, like Gerrard performs best in a 3 man midfield so they can run forward and do what they do best. The difference being is that Gerrard has far more movement and takes more responsiblity during a match leaving the midfield more exposed in a 2man midfield. Whereas Lampard does a Lucas and passes 10yards to the side at every oppertunity. The difference, and likely reason "everyone" rates Gerrard higher is that he can grab a game and drag a team back into it, towards the win. He's done loads of times, how many times has Lampard done it? Have to agree with Lampard's workethic personality though, hardly misses a game aswell which can be attributed to keeping yourself in the best condition and not go out on the razz with mates on a tuesday.

As for the game, great performance, the buggers gave me hope twice after I had written them off! Shame Chelsea, and Drogba in particular, felt the need to resort to the Mourinho phase and dive all over the place, T0$$er!

You can see they have played each other 25 times in 5 seasons though, each team knows exactly the strenght and weakness and its making the games more and more open.

Hopefully the performance and result will make them even more hungry for the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

What a game....

best team won tho...

silver lining is that other 3 teams in top four still playing for at least 2 trophies so may be stretched...

This is definitely something I've noticed.

Liverpool and Chelsea fans can complain all they want about getting each other in five consecutive years, but because of this, the games are a hell of a lot better than anything else you might get.

Re: Liverpool Thread

great game gutted about the result, but now we can fully focus on the league
with a fit Gerrard(right decision to leave him out last night).

And strangely the wins/losses have changed because of it. Liverpool are now pretty "comfortable" in the league matches ( 3 wins and a draw I believe in the last two seasons) yet 2 losses and 2 draws in the cup. It was the other way round before......

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah, there's just no club like Liverpool.

There isn't a team with more spirit than Liverpool in Europe.

Upwards, and onwards.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Some great photos, captures a lot of the emotion from the day. I've watched a few vids on Youtube as well as some of the memorial service, really sad watching and quite upsetting really.

Re: Liverpool Thread

RIP the 96, im glad we wore black armbands tonight, they deserve to be remembered no matter what team you support

Re: Liverpool Thread

hes not a player.

The families of the victims have demanded justice for the 96 that died at Hillsboro (i.e people held accountable)

I find it sad how we can quickly jump onto looking at prosecuting police officer for hitting someone at a riot and yet do nothing when 96 people die due to police incompetence. Not only that but denying any role in the tradegy and continued attempts to cover it up.
