Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Or...he's just holding his hands up ... :) ?

Great win against Blackburn, but wtf they were awful! They really showed up against us a few weeks ago, they weren't a shadow of that team.

Have to admit looking at games remaining and form, it really might be your year. I had hoped that the United players would understand what this all means, but clearly it hasn't quite gotten through to some of them.

Should be a great run in, either way. Your Arsenal match has worked out pretty well - you've got a nice week long rest and they play a cup semi final at the ruddy pitch of Wembley. Plus I'm sure the rest of their defence will be injured by then!

the games against arsenal will be key for both of us and chelsea, if we can get a win next week then it's on, after that they've got 'boro at home then portsmouth (away i think?) which i expect them to win, then they've got games at home to chelsea & away to you

if they get 3 wins before they play you (hopefully 'boro, pompey and chelsea) they will be more or less guaranteed 4th place and can see them maybe resting players against you depending on their results in the cups

all ifs, buts and maybes at the moment but think they'll be tough to beat next week whilst they're still leading the chase for 4th and could be a bit softer by the time they play you depending on results in the league and them progressing in the cups

well unless he's a liar, he was asked about the celebration post match and said it was for the fans and the victims.

Looking to the Heavens and holding up 6 fingers with him being the number 9, its either that or him adamant that will make it 6 times in Rome :D (bit of work to do first on tuesday, nando)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Didnt notice the fingers during the match, but I did notice him looking up to the sky. GF asked what that was about and I put it down to him being Spanish and them generally being religious. But now I think of it I can't remember him doing that with other goals so I think it was the 96 gesture. And he's a clever lad so it wouldnt surprise me he did something subtle like that. Better then a T-shirt!

Re: Liverpool Thread

So how do we see it going tonight? I'm thinking we'll win 2-0 and have Chelsea defending frantically towards the end but we wont be able to finish them off :(

We've also got that shitty situation where we HAVE to go for it, leaving space for Chelsea to counter-attack. And they're hardly shabby at countering either.

In a way I'm looking forward to it, but then I'm dreading it as well. If we win, our confidence would go through the roof. If we keep attacking and Chelsea hit us on the break, it could be the same score as it was at Anfield and I think that'd hit us pretty hard.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't think its over for you by any means. Ideally you want to score first and then IF you can get a second who knows?

You have been written off which is probably the best thing tbh. Sorry to drag this up, but we were written of in 1989 having to win 2-0 at Anfield to win the title. We didn't have a chance apparently! But as someone once said "football is a funny old game" and I am of the opinion that anything can happen.

Like you say if you manage to get through this then it would do wonders for you for in the title run-in and CL Semi.

Re: Liverpool Thread

One thing I always keep thinking of is how we scored three past Milan in Istanbul in 45 mins. We CAN do it, of course we can, and we're great at lucky escapes (as I'm sure Tim will agree to) so it's not over. Will be very difficult though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It was in 7 min I think! The rest of the match we sat back and defended :D

Not worried what happens tonight really. After saturdays performance the players seem really up for the league (even after effectively being knocked out of the CL) so there wasn't the expected hangover. And tonight they have nothing to lose and can focus on the league again whatever happens. Could go either way, an early goal will probably decide which way the match will go imo with hopefully Liverpool getting a 2nd just before HT.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just read that during the last 6 games, Liverpool have scored 19 goals..an average of 3.16 per game!

.....

Getting more nervous now :(

:SAL:

Good stuff by the bitters, they deserve some respect for that.

Popular belief is that Gerrard will be on the bench for tonight.

Not saying Liverpool are bad or anything, but aren't these kinds of stats usually a bit .... 'dressed up'? I mean, what about the other 30-something matches before the last 6?

I think it's mainly with regards to our recent form, and we're in the best form of our season going into this match, as the stat says really.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm hoping for an early Pool goal to make things interesting. If it gets to halftime at 0-0 I think Rafa will take off the big guns, though you have a full week to recover.

Should plan to take advantage of Captain Courageous being out by hoofing it towards that pacy Spanish fella you have, as Carvalho isn't nearly as dominant in the air and Alex is tentative sometimes.

Looking forward to it, should be a pretty good match :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm not siding with any team tonight, but i hope Liverpool pull a come back and it goes to penalties so I have a nice time watching :D.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hope you lot win tonight, Torres will need to be at his best though, Whose going to play in Gerrards place?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Benayoun. Not exactly Gerrard quality but he can beat players with the ball and is capable of scoring (when he decides to shoot once he's beat all the players he can).

Agger dropped for Skrtel is a bit of a blow but I guess it's to do with Agger being tired from the weekend.

Highest scoring team in the league with the joint 2nd best defense ;)

7 min to go........

Re: Liverpool Thread

Proud.

What a game, we had to go for it and we did. Four goals at Stamford Bridge, unreal. It's a shame we had to go for it so much as it resulted in Chelsea getting chances on the break and they took advantage of those.

And all that without Gerrard and Torres having a poor game by his standards. Superb, can't fault any of them tonight and they did their best.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cech isnt bad. Just having a bad period in his career. He's still way too young to right off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I love this club, women can go and take a jump, nothing gives me more pleasure than everything about Liverpool. Okay, we're nowhere near the finished article, but compare our fans tonight and the spirit of the team with the placcy flags and a hulk of a striker rolling around and feigning injury from the first minute, to the last (rolling around in pain IN STOPPAGE time, when we needed TWO GOALS and he had already gestured that the game was over)

I'm sorry If i sound bitter. Chelsea are a fantastic TEAM (strongest squad in england), they now have the manager, they have the chequebook.

Drogba, probably the best striker in the world IMO, Torres not far behind, is the biggest cunt in the game. It depletes your faith in humanity when you see so much talent being ruined by cheating, cuntishness and arrogance.

Lampard gave us credit in the post match, drogba said nothing.

Can't fault any Liverpool players tonight, mistakes were made yes, and we'll work on that, but oh my word, the heart!

I never said he was bad, just that he's always been overrated. Before his injury, Buffon and Casillas were better then him, so it's strange that he was considered the best goalkeeper in the world. Now, guys like Julio Cesar and Frey are better then him, yet I still read things about him being the best in the world.
