Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Can I just say thank you to Rafa for his encouragement of teams coming to play at OT? If it continues and we have more games like the 3-2 I'm all for it, even if it means losing the league. I've hated the majority of home games this season, when teams would actually go the whole match without taking a shot on our goal, and rarely if ever send 3 of their players over the halfway line. Made the football boring as hell, and kind of got rid of the point of watching. It's supposed to be entertaining.

If United can get back to the swashbuckling you can score 4 but we'll score 5 that's great imo. It beats the hell out of the alternative - this dull chess game of whose defensive midfielders make more important challenges per minute per square metre of pitch.
Have to agree. It seems a lot of teams were defeated before they started at OT.:R1

Re: Liverpool Thread

hmm the rafa rant at the start worked in my opinion, we started droping points, United thought it was in the bag, then we came back, making a few people look a bit silly in the process ;)

I love watching the clip of the twats in OT with "Rafa's cracking up signs" and a replica European Cup, just before getting twatted 4-1

On balance, United deserved to beat Villa, only just, Villa gave it a good go, but ultimately their thin squad couldn't hold on. Porto just showed that United aren't invincible and are actually there for the taking, and they probably emphasised that Liverpool are playing the better football at the moment, but I still expect you to cruise past Porto at home.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hmmmmm, not sure if I want Liverpool to progress. Looks like a spanking waiting to happen in the next round for whichever team gets through :D / :(

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think only you could stop Barcelona and that might not even happen.

I can predict 1-1 for tonights game, and then a 0-0 at Stamford Bridge, and Barca will win the CL.

Good prediction, you could very well be right.

Although I can see Chelsea scoring again tonight, our defence has been awful.

Edit: And there we have it  Bound to happen, we've been fucking shocking at defending anything tonight, especially corners (when will we learn?). Can't see us getting anything at Stamford Bridge so I'm getting the feeling this is it for us with regards to the CL.

Edit: Yep, fuck it. All over, shit performance. Maybe this is why Rafa didn't want us playing such attacking football all along, because we can't defend?

Edit: Caned. Fucking embarassing performance and nobody really turned up for us today. I've lost all patience with Lucas in particular and I'm starting to lose patience with Riera with his form lately. This just isn't good enough at any point for us, especially when you consider our form lately. Rubbish.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Got what we deserved. Tactical masterclass by Hiddink.

Hopefully, Barcelona batter them in the semis.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hiddink totally tactically overcome Benitez strategy. I think its the End for Liverpool in the CL.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Humiliating, hats off to Chelsea they played really well. Lucky we weren't 4 / 5 goals down, cause that would've brought the youngsters in for the SB match :(

3 goals at SB .. too much to ask?

Re: Liverpool Thread

ouch
this is what i get for doubting hiddink and his genius with south korea..

Re: Liverpool Thread

i didnt catch the game..how did hiddink overcome benitez in tactics? i know hiddink is an amazing tactician but i thought benitez was supposed to be pretty good?

I think we started off brilliantly. We had plenty of space, and Arbeloa and even Lucas were making dangerous runs.

After that though, he put Essien on Gerrard, Lampard on Alonso, just starved our midfield of any possession. We didn't have Masch to counter their energy and press them, and they kept pumping balls to Drogba who held it brilliantly, and brought Kalou and Malouda into play. We tried to counter that by going long ourselves, but we didn't have a chance with Terry. They score the two goals, and then it was just us chasing the game, which game them space to counter, and they eventually scored the 3rd.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Deserved win for Chelsea, played better and had the better tactics.

Tbh I hope we will send a reserve team out at SB as resting the players is more important for the league. Torres especially looks knackered after the Real,Utd matches. Just dont see the point in a possibly very tiring 1-0 win at SB if we even manage that.

One thing I noticed is that nearly every loose ball, bounce always went to Chelsea last night. The amount of times it pinged about between a few players and chelsea went away with it was ridiculous. But that could be down to fitness and some extra rest, it was the same for utd aswell.

Hopefully a blessing in disguise with a crappy 1-0 win for utd next week :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ouch. Well its the league or nothing then.

Started well, great finish from Torres, Arebloa had a great game.

We really missed Mascherano in my opinion. Chelsea got too much space. Lucas is low on confidence, and coming up against Ballack, Lampard and Essien in midfield is difficult for anyone.

Conceeding two sloppy goals from conrners from the same player was beyond ridiculous, just really soft, and un Liverpool like. The whole performance was un Liverpool and un rafa like.

Can't see us scoring two or three without reply at Stamford Bridge, but lets give it a go.

Chelsea v Barca will be an interesting semi. Funnily enough I think Chelsea have more tools in the locker to beat Barca than anyone else.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think it's a good result for Rafa in a way. He gets to focus on the league now, and he can fall back on the 'well I just don't have the squad to compete for every trophy'. Which if he wins the league will not only make him a hero, but also get him more money in the summer. Winner all around :)

But as the fans - would you really want to see a reserve team out against Chelsea? I remember you needing to score 3 goals under some pressure a few years ago...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Realistically we can score 3 at SB, sure. We scored 4 at OT and I count that as harder.

But as Tik says, I think if I was Rafa I'd want to rest the likes of Torres and Gerrard for the league instead now. It'd take a LOT of energy to win there and score three goals, certainly knackering every player who plays, and that would definately harm our league chances.

if you rest gerrard and torres for the league you may blow the league. its well known that liverpool are average at best when gerrard is not playing

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think you've read it wrong Jonney. I'd want to rest Gerrard FOR the league, so he can play in league games.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I agree - Rafa has won the CL with Pool, hasn't won the league. If I were him the prioritisation would be easy. League first.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hiddink got it spot on but I'm sure it would have been very different had Mascherano been playing. To score 3 at SB, you're going to need more or less all the Chelsea players to have bad performances. With Essien in there, I can't see it happening. The guy had Gerrard in his pocket for most of the game.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Stupid, absolutely stupid to give up.

On their day, Gerrard-Torres can batter any defense in the world, let alone a makeshift Chelsea one with Terry and Carvalho out. Mascherano will be back, and I'd expect us to have more dominance in center mid.

Play the strongest side, and Benayoun instead of Riera, and just have a go. One early goal, and you can bet Chelsea will start to get nervous. If we haven't scored until 60 mins, then take off Gerrard and Torres. Not before that though.

We need a fucking miracle, but few teams are better than producing one than Rafa's Liverpool.

For now though, it's the Blackburn game.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You lot still have a slim chance, you prob cam score 3 at the bridge but i cant see you lot keeping them out, especially with that daft zonal marking on corners, good luck tho fellers

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerrard COULD be out for the rest of the season boys.

He's at hospital for a scan on his hamstring, and they club is worried.

If its true, sorry, but we're not winning nothing. Okay, we've done the business in games without him before, BUT..to do it for 8-12 games....nap.

Hamstring? Thought it was a minor groin strain?!
