I guess the referee decided Liverpool should get a goal. Weak penalty call... although N'Gog was judged to have fouled an Atletico player the exact same way (in the area) a few minutes before.

I suppose it would have been a foul outside the penalty area 10/10 times so I guess it shouldn't be any different inside. Regardless, I'll take the goal.

Shocking, can't believe the commentators just ignored it and said oh it was soft as well. Cheating bastard. Atletico must be so annoyed.

Apart from the fact we got denied TWO clear penalties and two clear corners, justice still wasn't done giving us that penalty.

Awful officiating.

I saw Derby get a legitimate goal disallowed at the weekend in injury time, and then I see this today. Referees these days...

Watch his legs - he was going down the second he left the ground, he deliberately pulls them up so he doesn't land on his feet. There was not enough contact there to knock him to ground, and he initiated the contact.

Oh and for the record I'm completely fine with it, don't think for a second Atletico wouldn't have done exactly the same thing. I just don't want Stevie G coming out talking about honesty and integrity again.

Here's something I've been meaning to ask Liverpool fans: how does it feel to be benefited by the referees every year in the CL?

Gerrard? A real character huh? Fuckin hates it when other players do that against Liverpool, but for him its alright to dive for penalties. You could almost see him grinning. What a cheating bastard.

Here we go again. We can't bring up Gerrard or Torres because our players dive as well.

Well our players don't fucking get away with it EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME!

Our players dive sure, but they get absolutely lambasted for it, I reckon Gerrard gets away with it because he's English and some like Ronaldo isn't but still the guy should be fucking kneecapped.

Well, Carraghger's mistake cost another goal. Won't say much else.

Gerrard dived. Got away with it. Fucking made up. We need some cheating horrible bastards in the team to win stuff.

It's not really worth talking about anyway, Pool and Atletico will both qualify easily, so it didn't change things that much.

All teams have players who dive, but not all diving players come out and make comments about integrity.

Carragher is one of the best CBs in Europe. He may have made a couple mistakes, but he also saves your ass time and time again. Skrtel has nothing on him, other than control of the English language. :)

Crap decision, would have given it the other way tbh. But then the ref and linesmen where sh!te throughout the match.

Fair enough result, although Liverpool should have just edged it if they had taken their chances. Either way it isnt important anyway, both team should spank psv and marseille in the next matches.

I don't think he dived. He made more of it than it was, but imo if your a defender and you go for a 50/50 ball like that and DONT GET IT, but clatter the player, it's gotta be a free kick / penalty.

Gerrard totally made a meal of it, but it was nowhere near the obvious dive he made for England a few years ago.

If it hadn't been a penalty, I think it would've fallen in the 'seen them given' category.

I second tim's opinion. The defender was second to the ball, in fact he didn't get the ball at all, and then bumped into Gerrard and he made sure the ref knew he was fouled. Certainly not a dive, contact was there and it's up to the ref to call it, I would say Gerrard convinced the Ref he was fouled.

He could've stayed up, but if you think you're fouled in the box, then make sure the Ref know about it. Nothing wrong with that now?

in that situation 1-0 down in the 92nd minute, if anyone doesn't go down there i would imagine they would get a bollocking for not doing so

as mentioned there was contact but he exaggerated it as most players do

like it or lump it , it is part of the modern game and if you don't use it to your advantage when you can then your not doing your job properly

the end of the day, it is the result that matters, fair play and good sportsmanship is a very hard thing to achieve when there is so much money,pride - you name it at stake

Lol nice one Joey but you're supposed to post it in the Blue end of Liverpool. As I said, the Atletico "dive" isn't a dive, there was contact and the defender was late, Gerrard got the ball first, so NOT a dive.

But maybe the rest of the "dives" are more debatable, I was sure somebody with the right attitude will compile those videos someday :)

I think the main gripe is people label the Ronaldo's, Adebayor's and Drogba's as divers but when a English player does it, nothing gets said. Whats even worse is you dont see any of them coming out saying diving is ruining the game, yet you see Gerrard come out with comments like that and then dives for a pen. imo Thats a lot worse then what the other players do.

I'm sorry, but there was contact because Gerrard fucking jumped into the defender, its that simple.

Jumped into the defender? And how exactly that he do that AND get to the ball first? Look again. He jumped and got the ball and the defender was late and they bumped, no such thing as bumped into. The video that Joe posted is only one angle of the story, even that can show that both are going for the same ball, and defender was late and didn't get the ball.

Pointless arguing mate, You'll only wind yourself up. No reasoning with some people, and you'll never get an un-biased reply. It seems cheating is ok if you've had a penalty previously turned down but also something that only other clubs and players do. The Hypocrisy is spreading.

My opinion is unbiased, some even say I hate Liverpool, but I think it was a penalty.
