Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Errr why are we buying Riera while SWP is "available" for 10 million quid? (or is that just a rumor?)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Triffic, looks like Chelsea are getting Robinho :(

United with Berba and Chelsea with Robinho. Their spending power is now just ridiculous.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Keane = 20M
Riera = 10M
Dossenna = 8M
Ngog = 1.5M
Degen = Free
= 40M

Tevez = 20M
Berbatov = 25M
= 45M

5M more isnt "ridiculous spending power" compared to you is it:LOL:

I'm sorry Peter, but compared with 16 other Premiership clubs and all the clubs from Belgium, Holland, France, Portugal...Liverpool's spending power is ridiculous too...

In a couple of hours our champions Standard will be playing Liverpool for qualification in the CL. Because i was on holiday, i haven't seen the first leg, but the Belgian press (and the French, i've read L'Equipe while in France) was very positive about Standard's performance in the home leg. Nevertheless it would be a miracle if Standard would qualify. The gap between Liverpool and Standard or similar teams is way larger than the one between Chelsea/Man Utd and Liverpool. I've never heard Liverpool fans complaining about that....

Nevertheless good luck this evening (not that you guys will need it...).

people seem to forget how much we have had to get rid of to generate the money for players

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerd, I watched the match and Liverpool were lucky to get a draw. If Standard had finished some good chances it could have easily been 2/3-0 for them.

Can't remember Liverpool having a decent effort/chance in the match.

After the Ballague comment on Riera Im not sure, when will Rafa put an arm around him?! Maybe Sammy will do it, although Im not sure that will help. :lol:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Erm United can spend 20-30m on at least one player every season.

We're not competing with Dutch, French and Portuguese clubs for the top honours so why would that matter.

Yes We are rich compared to alot of other teams, but the only gap we have to bridge performance wise is the gap between us and the top two in England, and we can't considering they can spend over 20m each on numerous players year after year.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool REALLY piss me off sometimes. You'd think they would've learnt from the first game, yet they're still prancing around on the pitch like all they need to do is just turn up and they'll win.

There was a situation a few mins ago when Arbeloa was looking to play a pass, only to see Torres, Keane and Kuyt all within five yards of each other on the edge of the 18-yard box :ROLL:

I'm also starting to believe that Benayoun and Kuyt just aren't good enough. Work rate is fine but they just lack enough to warrant a place in a team that really wants to challenge for the title.

Re: Liverpool Thread

EXACTLY the same again, Torres with the ball and three players grouped together not moving for the ball.

There's a huge difference watching us and watching Arsenal or Utd, because their players PASS AND MOVE, which is what we should be doing considering it's how Liverpool have always played.

:brick:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hrm, I like English clubs to do well in Europe, but I'll be feeling for Liege tonight if Liverpool nick a last minute stevie G wondergoal. They've outplayed them for 135 minutes quite thouroughly, but have lacked the little bit of luck...

I fully agree if that happens. If we don't step up a hundred gears, there's a real likelihood that that scenario could happen.

Or Liege could put away one of the countless chances they keep getting and finish us off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't think Leige are outplaying us at all, we are just useless going foward at the moment, there is no width AGAIN, and the midfield just isn't providing anything for Torres and Keane.

Besides the penalty (which wasn't) and the goal line clearance which didn't go over the line, Reina didn't have to do much in Liege.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Basically

1. Gerrard is absolutely useless in a midfield two, as he has too many defensive duties.

2. Xabi is pissed off at Rafa, and doesn't give a damn

3. Yossi is useless as a winger in a 4-4-2, and needs to be subbed off for Babel.

4. I am in love with Pepe.

Re: Liverpool Thread

5. Liege has some awesome players keepin the financial and the quality difference between them and the Scousers in mind

Re: Liverpool Thread

Albert soddin Riera can't come soon enough.

Neither can Masch or Lucas.

Pray we scrape past this one. There needs to be a lot of sorting done.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've been praying for the last two games and was pleasantly suprised. We need to keep scraping wins/points unti we finally sort our width problems out.

Worried that we're not shooting towards the Kop now....*sigh*

Fans not helping either.

Poor play=queit crowd=Poor Play again.

Re: Liverpool Thread

we have moved the ball well enough but we are so predictable, because it all comes inside so makes it easier for managers and teams to stop us penatrating the last third

some of the passing there was great, fast tempo but it got shut down once it got to our so called wingers

I think Arbeloa is scared of the touchline, he only seems to ever cross from the corner of the 18-yard box.

Re: Liverpool Thread

This is shocking. I know its early days, but if we have another season like last years where Rafa constantly plays players who just aren't up to scrath or in a run of poor form, and he constantly ignores what everyone else in football can see, then I might just think its time for him to move on. I like the relative success we've had under him, but I just hate the way we play under him.

Oh and if we can't improve out set pieces in 5 years then i'm afraid the coach isn't doing his job properly.

I realise Rafa hasn't always been able to secure his first choice players. Now if DIC come in and back Rafa, I'd be willing to give him another year or two.

If failure to qualify for the CL speeds up the departure of the Americans, then maybe its a blessing in disguise.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres and El Zhar are the only ones to come out of this with some kind of credit.

El Zhar of all people :ROLL:

This is so embarassing it's unbelieavable.

Re: Liverpool Thread

El Zhar? He didn't anything

I think Reina, Skrtel and Aurelio were the best players. All defensive players.

To be fair, we've been much better ever since Babel came on.

Come on lads! Win it!

El Zhar has tried to create something, he's working and trying to impress.

I don't think Babel has done anything, I think it's more a case of Liege tiring.
