Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

well i hope im wrong, i just feel he will be lost without berba like it was a one off partnership, im not very excited about this year. :((

Re: Liverpool Thread

 Even the Mancs are giving us more of a chance than you! Cheer up mate, I'm sure we'll do well this year, I'm pretty convinced we'll do better than last season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

im just diapointed with the signings, rafa can sign some wooden ones. least we got el nando but its always tougher second season, the one that worries me most is stevie gerrard, i dont think he has the right level of fight/commitment for us any more.

we need to hit the floor running.

Re: Liverpool Thread

LIVERPOOL are refusing to give up on signing Gareth Barry despite Aston Villa's insistence that the deal is now off.

A day of complex talks was brought to a halt by Villa at 5pm yesterday, according to the terms of a deadline imposed by the Midlands club.

That was despite the fact Liverpool had met Villa's financial demands for Barry, as laid out in written correspondence between the two clubs.

A cash plus player deal was agreed and those closest to the transfer expected the 27-year-old to finally get his move to Anfield.

But on Tuesday afternoon – as Liverpool arrived in Valencia for last night's friendly against Villarreal – Reds officials learned that Villa had decided to change the payment schedule.

With Villa's arbitrary 5pm deadline fast approaching, Liverpool asked for a further 48 hours to be able to put the necessary finance structure in place with their banks to meet the new demands but this request was refused.

Villa, whose manager Martin O'Neill criticised Liverpool for doing business in public at the start of this long running saga, then put a statement out on their official club website stating the deal was off.

Villa are clearly acting like dickheads here. What's the point in agreeing a deal, then changing the terms but still expecting Liverpool to met a deadline set for a previous deal? :censor:

You lot are looking pretty solid now. I think you'll really challenge this year.

Let's hope so, anyways. Can't see us winning, but hopefully a title challenge till April/May, and 2nd/3rd. That would make me happy.

I agree with everything. Can't see us winning but I'd like us to give it a good, realistic shot and push on a bit.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Is Barry reaaly a top class player that is gonna add so much to team and raise them to another level?

Rafa obviously thinks so. I'd trust him, because our previous two 15M+ buys have been absolutely brilliant.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Standard Liege, potentially a tricky tie there. Could've been worse but could've been better too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool challenging for the title is a funny subject, In reality looking at your squad, style of play etc seems like you will challenge but for some reason i still can see you lot slipping away come Christmas, I think now its more psychological rather than the quality of the players.

I think that's been our weakness for many years though, mentality. We haven't had a killer instinct for far too long. We've had chances to kill of smaller teams but we always look like we're scared to concede and we expect to ... and then we do.

I'm hopeful that our new signings, as well as the confidence from the Spanish, will get rid of that and give us a winning mentality and a belief we can challenge if we're more confident.

I think "confident" is the key word. Look at Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea, all play with bags of confidence. Something we've definately lacked.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hopefully, the fact that our No. 9 was the match winner at the finals of the Euros will give a much needed boost to our mentality.

Latest info from ShanksLegend

"Am sorry i cant say the player who he wants if this falls through because it will come back and bite me on my arse.

I will say though the Barry deal is more and more likely, as i reported several weeks ago the owners have gone into there pockets for this one (well at least the bank).

We have spoken to Villa since the farce on Wednesday, at first they were acting like twats as i pointed out its one twatting game that cunt MON and their website did, because he is going to look like a cunt.

The info I have is that, they now want Barry to throw in a transfer request so Villa dont look stupid. This is Barrys last resort, he will not do this as it looks like Villa will win.

He will be a Liverpool player one way or another by the end of next week by the sounds of things"

Eh? Does he mean Villa will win by getting the 18mil?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think we should get Barry this time next week. After that, Rafa's looking for a winger if we manage to sell Alonso.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Anyone watching the friendly today?

Currently 4-0 to us.

First half, Torres, Keane and Gerrard were really linking up well, and Dossena was bombing forward.

Second half, the youngsters have come on and are really knocking it about confidently.

Ngog scored a cracker.
