Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

What people are worth, and what market prices are today is a different matter. You can't get a quality English player for less than £10m these days (and nowadays you're lucky to pay closer to £10m than £20m).

I rate Barry higher than Carrick, and United paid £18.6 for him, right?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ok I see your point, but I don't feel he is worth that even in the inflated market. I wouldn't put him at more than £10m. Can't see why effectively swapping Alonso for Barry will make you stronger.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Barry is a different kind of player to Alonso. I'd like the comparison to Keane and Hargreaves, where Barry and Hargreaves are more attacking and have a different style of play despite both playing the DMC role.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think that's stupid in Villa's part to fine him at this moment, surely now Barry can and will force his will to leave the club with absolutely no turning back, hence IMO lowering his price. How can you keep up his value when the other team knew it's not if but when he's leaving the club?

Incredibly stupid move .. good for Liverpool though :-)

According to this:

The 15 mil bid is not true?

I wouldn't stop laughing if we pulled out of the move, and left Barry stranded with Villa.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Were are you lot getting the 15M price tag from, i heard this morning you made a 17M bid. you need a winger, imo that should be a higher priority than replacing a good CM for a different type of good CM.

Different prices going around. But it's not 17M from what I've heard around the internet.

About a winger being a higher priority, tell that to Rafa.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seems like you were right the bid you put in was 15M but they rejected it again. seems like there going to try and get every penny you lot have!

Re: Liverpool Thread

That does it. Good to see you Barry but you sort it out with old O'Neill.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seeing as it mainly seems to be the Man Utd fans saying £15m is too much, did you not think you got fleeced with Carrick? He cost more than Barry yet I think Barry is a better player and would cost less.

I'd love to know what Reina is saying there, he's got everyone in stitches laughing!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ask the same question to Wenger!, hes probably already got 10 players lined up better than Barry and will cost about a quarter of the piss take price tag!

And players who'll take 2-3 seasons to settle before they actually start performing.

If anything, Barry is EXACTLY what Wenger needs. An English player, and a natural leader, who's going to be a presence at center midfield. And I honestly don't think there's 10 players better than Barry who'd cost less than 15M.

About Pepe, he's CLASS! :applaud:

looking at what we won since carrick joined, we got him cheap...

Personally i can't understand why Carrick isnt a starter for England, He for me is the best english passer behind Scholes, the difference is you have to look at the facts, we only signed Carrick but when we did he won the league, not saying he was the main reason as we all now Ronaldo grew as a player but he added something to our midfield.

other reasons which differ are we NEEDED a player to replace Keane in the middle obviously Carrick is a different type of player but that position was our priority, while you lot NEED wingers.

That is spot on. We already have good enough central midfielders.

Still, doesn't make Barry not worth 15M. He's a very, very good midfielder IMO. I think it's simple. Rafa wants a box to box midfielder to be his Ruben Baraja. But if we're to spend anywhere near 17-18M no one, I'd much rather have a genuinely world class one in Lucho Gonzalez.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I know a couple of Liverpool fans and Im sure they have got a feeling that they have won something this year when in reality it just happens that one of their players scored the winner in the final after playing average in a tournament!

Gives me a chuckle everytime I think about it !

Re: Liverpool Thread

So at the time, you thought he was worth nearly £19m?

If we won the league and CL this season, would that make Barry for £15m cheap?

I thought he was good enough to play for us and just what we were crying out for in MF, how much spurs wanted for him was out of our hands, it was a case of how much we wanted him.

And yes, if a player has that big an impact, then £15mill is a drop in the ocean.

Madrid spent nearly £50mill on a 30year old, just to win the 2002 European Cup.

I think that's the point mate. What if Barry is that player to take us to the next level? Sure, we need wingers too but what if Barry will give us that something different in the middle and that something would give us a bigger advantage to what we've lacked previously.

Only time will tell if Barry does make that impact (if he even moves to us, which seems very likely).

Re: Liverpool Thread

:lmao:

Brilliant! Schweinsteiger looked well pissed off at the start but even he smiled in the end!

Re: Liverpool Thread

LIVERPOOL are poised to land £3m Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri from Palmeiras.

The Reds confirmed today they are in negotiations with the player and his club and hope to announce his signing next week.

His arrival will signal the departure of Scott Carson, back at Melwood this week after a year-long loan at Aston Villa.

Rafa Benitez is trying to juggle his financial resources as the saga over Gareth Barry’s proposed transfer shows no sign of reaching a conclusion.

The sale of Carson could generate around £10m to boost his hunt for other players, while Portsmouth are believed to be ready to table an increased offer of nearer £10m for striker Peter Crouch.

But Cavalieri looks like he could follow Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena into Anfield even before those deals are done.

Seen this guy on FM and he's quality! Better than Itandje in any case

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seems like your selling your squad players and replacing them with cheaper ones so you can get a bit of cash together.

Squad and cheaper? For example?

Le Tallec hasn't even been in our squad for years

Kewell's contract ran out

Alonso will be replaced by Barry (who will likely cost more)

Crouch will go for £10m-£15m and we're looking into signing Keane who is likely to cost closer to £20m

Itandje was sold for £2m-£3m and Cavalieri is costing £3m

Riise sold for £5m and Dossena cost £8m so was more expensive.

Degen has arrived but no exit of anybody yet.
