Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I reckon after seeing the great link-up between Torres and David Villa the other night you guys would be awesome up front if you signed Villa. Plus I think the Torres aspect could persuade him to come to Anfield. If thats the case you could well be pushing Us closer this year than ever before in the Premiership.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Villa/Torres would be terrifying if they were allowed to play, I would just worry Rafa would force one of them to do too much defending and stay in his position.

Agree that they clearly like playing with each other, so could be possible. But that's gonna be lotsa cash, which I'm not sure you've got :(

We're selling a lot of the squad so we could raise cash easy enough.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's exactly that DJ, it's always because we lack enough killer instinct to finish teams off and they always pull back and defend a 1-0 lead. And we always conceded a stupid late goal and get a draw, soooo infuriating!

Re: Liverpool Thread

We've already made enquiries about Villa according to ShanksLegend. Not sure if we can afford him though.

Rafa has wanted Villa for a long time. He wanted him in his first season here, when Villa was at Zaragoza. We couldn't get him.

Can't us getting him, unless Villa specifically wants to come here like Nando. He might though. Real Madrid are focusing on Ronaldo, and Barcelona seem interested in other players. If he were to come to England, coming to Liverpool would make sense. He'll settle here better than anyone else. Spanish coaches, Spanish manager, Spanish players. Torres, who he seems to have a good relationship, same with Pepe.

Anyways, I'm just glad he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. It's nothing new. He's been doing this for years in Spain.

I noticed Villa some time ago mate and always thought he would be deadly in the Premiership with the right kind of service. You lot need a clear out, you have some inconsistant players who perform well in 1 game but when it matters most they go missing.

My only worry is if Chelsea get him. Lampard might leave (I hope he stays), and if he does, there's a good chance Chelsea might get a midfielder with vision and guile (and Lampard doesn't have a drop of it) like Diego or Van der Vaart. And if they have a striker like Villa in front of them, Chelsea would be unstoppable in England and in Europe. They've already got Bosingwa. I, for one, can't understand why AC Milan haven't gone for him. Him, playing in front of Kaka. They would be invincible.

Yeh, we do need a clear out. Not a big one, but we need to replace players with better ones. Riise will be replaced by Dossena. Finnan by Degen. Pennant needs to be replaced as well. I think Voronin will be replaced by Nemeth next season. Can't think of anyone outside that.

Finnan to be honest aint a bad player I dont think. Voronin just isnt Premiership Quality and I think Pennant needs to sort himself out, he seems to be Mr Attitude, needs to become more of a team player. Riise has had his best days for sure. I dont think Chelsea will get Villa, why go there? Only for the money I suppose!

Finnan's way best his best. He, like Riise, has been a defensive liability the whole season. Voronin is average, and Pennant doesn't have a football brain. He's the one guy I've seen who's outpaced Clichy. Yet he'll fail to beat the slowest of defenders.

Talking about it another thread, but does Engelaar remind anyone else of a more refined Plessis?

Re: Liverpool Thread

My only worry is if Chelsea get him.

Won't happen(hopefully) Villa has already expressed
that he would like to play for Arsenal due to the
way that they play.

Manure could also be a good shout & Spurs have been
linked with him.

Watching yesterday's game when him & Torres celebrated
his goals(especially the 3rd) I just wondered maybe, just maybe there could be something in that...
(and no i'm not talking about what they'll get upto in the shower room after the game)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh, and apparently, Pepe talked to the ref, so that Villa could get the match ball. The ref wasn't willing to do so earlier.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Your 2nd bids been rejected now lads, seems like i was right when i said 16M was what they wanted. Villa on the otherhands is pretty much a no chance. you probably dont have enough funds for the original 17M let alone get in a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea, Milan, Arsenal etc. I expectt pretty much the same side you lot had last year with Barry in for Alonso as a straight swap with Alonso to Juve.

Re: Liverpool Thread

But the difference is Barry wants to go to Liverpool so it seems we're the only bidder this time. Yea I guess tough luck for Alonso as he's the odd man out like Sissoko last time.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think for the Premiership Barry will be better than Alonso but i just reckon in Europe you'll miss him when other sides give you more time on the ball.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Your Wingbacks are improved no doubt but does that really improve your attack? Doseena is a good signing while Degan is not proven and could be good or could be awful.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yup. Liverpool lack natural width due to the system we play. Fast, athletic wing backs will provide that.

Heard enough about Dossena to convince me that he'll be a great buy. And I've seen Degen at the World Cup, and what I've heard from other people as well, is that he's a fast athletic full back, with decent technique, but doesn't know how to defend. That's fine by me, as Rafa always adds some defensive nous to his players.

And anyways, I'm convinced we'll see one quality attacking player for our right side.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Apparently Inter signed Quaresma for 23.5m euros today! They also apparently wrapped up Mancini through an exchange deal for Suazo.

Re: Liverpool Thread

RAFA BENITEZ’S bid to fund Gareth Barry’s transfer with Xabi Alonso’s exit have been dealt a double blow.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill rejected Liverpool’s latest £13m offer for Barry yesterday, and reports in Italy now claim that Juventus have switched their attentions from Alonso to Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger after refusing to meet the Reds’ £15m asking price.

A deal for Alonso appeared to be close last week when the player’s agent went to Turin for talks – money Benitez would have used to fund Barry’s arrival.

We must be one the worst teams in the world for transfer negotiations. Parry needs to leave, now.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Greetings, fellow LIVERMATES... and rest non LFC supporters (although, this is a LFC thread!).

First of all, I would like to claim the title "ancient Livermate", 'couse the very first time I've seen live the "Reds", was in ROME's Final - 1984.
I've watched 2 more Finals, the GLORIOUS Istanbul's Final and the unlucky Athen's one.

Second, I would like to say, that except LFC I don't support ANY other team, except (for my... grand-father sake only!) the Greek National Team.
So, I'm a totaly "British" (in spirit and "philosophy") LFC supporter and I'm backing ALWAYS the team, leaving aside my PERSONAL thoughts or wills.

Now... As a start, I'll like to say that I NEVER LIKED Rafa Benitez, as Liverpool's coach!!! Are you shocked? Are you yelling me right now, saying "you're crazy" and such?... Well, you shouldn't, dear Livermates!
I've watched MILLIONS minutes of EPL/Liverpool's matches in the Teli and few hundreds LIVE... Except Scandinavians or Central/Northern coaches (and OF COURSE, BRITISH!), no other should be working in the British Isle, period! Especially SPANISH coaches! They're "so fitting" in EPL footie, like a... penguin in the desert!
Rafa Benitez DOESN'T "fit" in Liverpool, unfortunatelly! The man is EXCEPTIONAL coach, he's a SUPERB manager, but... STILL CAN'T UNDERSTAND ENGLISH FOOTIE! How simplier can I say that?
(WE NEED A... BILL SHANKLEY's... revival! A HARD BRITISH coach, with a... SPARTAN (!) spirit, like Bill had!)
And, because Rafa CAN'T UNDERSTAND the English Footie, he wants to "TRANSFORM" Liverpool to... a "Primera Division", SPANISH team!
JESUS, NO!
Like - and rightful! - we (Livermates) don't want the bloody "Yankees" for chairmen, we don't like to watching our beloved LFC to become a bloody Spanish team!
English Footie is the BEST in the globe! Why shoould we except our team to become a LESS quality one? Rafa wants to "change" Liverpool and make it like... Sevilla FC!
Ok, I understand, we need FEW (!!!) Spanish players - they are so talentful, indeed - like our "golden boy" Torres, Alonso, LUIS GARCIA (so unfortuned, we gave him away!) and few more.
BUT, we need MANY BRITISH players, as well! Do you know HOW MANY British players we had in ROME '84? Almost ALL the team was British! Scotish, Irish, Wales, English... So many players from countries that UNDERSTANDING the English footie, with PHYSICAL POWER that "fits" in the rough EPL play!...
Now... we have so many talentful and "delicated" players and we CAN'T FACE tough teams, like the bloody Mancs or Arsenal, Chelsea etc.

NO... MORE... SPANISH... LATINO-AMERICAN... PLAYERS... IN LIVERPOOL!!!

And, why should I like Rafa, when he's "killing" SO GREAT players' carreers, like Riise and MOST OF ALL, PETER CROUCH!!! Why "killing" SO IMPORTANT players - like Peter - and he wants to buy NEW attackers, like... VILLA? ANOTHER Spanish one?

Generelly, lads, Rafa needs to CHANGE his "point of view". He NEEDS to understand that LFC is an ENGLISH team and "was" the MOST AGGRESSIVE team! Now, LFC is playing TOTALY defending and looking forward the counter-attacks. He MUST FORGET that kind of play; this is not LFC's play!
And he MUST give chances to YOUNG BRITISH PLAYERS!
If he can't do that... why having Rafa as coach? (O' Neill is far BETTER, for me!)
Don't get me wrong! I've enjoyed the CL's success. But I DON'T LIKE, watching LFC "transforming" to a SPANISH team!

Anyway... Riise is gone (BOLLOCKS!), Crouch is gone (TOTALY BOLLOCKS!), Alonso is going 90% to Juve, Rafa doesn't like Pennant to stay... what players we'll have in next season???
Why - again - should we tolerate players like Benayoun/Babel/Aurellio/Arbeloa/Mascherano/Voronin/etc.???
THESE PLAYERS MAYBE ARE GOOD FOR TEAMS LIKE ASTON VILLA OR BOLTON, BUT - FOR CHRIST SAKE! - THEY'RE NOT FOR LIVERPOOL!!!

Anyway... I've just make an uptight statement.

Any info for possible transfers?

Cheers,
Rom.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hi mate, welcome to the thread :))

Can't say I agree with some of your points unfortunately. Nothing wrong with trying to get us to play a different style of football instead of the typical British style (Bolton for example). Arsenal certainly play a more continental style, as well as Man Utd.

Rafa is also trying to get some English players in, Barry and Bentley in particular, but prices are crazily high (Barry's is becoming stupidly high) and Rafa has no alternative as he doesn't have the money to pay top dollar for English players (hence Degen for free).

Not sure how you think Babel and Mash isn't good enough for Liverpool either? Certainly not putting those two players in particular in the same category as Voronin

Interesting post though! :DD

Re: Liverpool Thread

We need Martin O'Neill. Such an honest, and frank bloke. Gets the best out of his players. Won't take bull shit. Knows the English game. Great record in the transfer market. Spent 20M on Harewood, Petrov and Davies.

Just what we need. A overrated, twatish, percentage football cunt of a manager.

what players we'll have in next season???

Cheers,
Rom.

Eh, Bentley, Downing and Barry. All English.

Oh, and Riise was never a great player. But yeh, Crouch is Van Basten.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I hope Barry starts to say this is getting ridiculously insane asking of a price, if what we're hearing 15 million is NOT enough to get Barry. Damnit twat.
