Re: Liverpool Thread

Looks like the Dossena deal is indeed done.

Pretty excited by this, Ben has me all pumped up for this player.

He's got that look about him of an Italian mafia gangster. He'll fit right in with the sadistic Russian killer look of Skrtel, and the doped, crazy mofo look of Agger. And Carra has the no non-sense "I'll smash your ugly face" Scouse look.

Carragher Skrtel Agger Dossena

A defense to be feared

Re: Liverpool Thread

Degen's look?

Meh, he's the pretty boy

He could be the guy that charms the ladies, brings them home, then kills them, tears them into pieces, and feeds 'em to Skrtel.

Yeh, I like that.

You better be fucking joking me!

Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in shared stadium talks

Jun 6 2008

EXCLUSIVE by David Bartlett, Liverpool Daily Post

Tom Hicks (right) with George Gillett

THE chief executive of the North West Development Agency last night called for a “fundamental economic appraisal” of a shared stadium between Everton and Liverpool football clubs.

Steve Broomhead told the Liverpool Daily Post the idea needed to be looked at, given the current economic climate.

He is due to meet with Kop Holdings, Tom Hicks’s and George Gillett’s company, which owns Liverpool FC, next week.

“More and more, it looks like if we are to upgrade the sporting stadiums for Merseyside, the ground sharing option has to go back on the table,” Mr Broomhead said. “A fundamental economic appraisal of a ground share is needed.”

Mr Broomhead said he had seen little progress at Anfield in raising money for the new stadium.

His call follows that of Liverpool council leader Warren Bradley, who last week said the idea of a shared ground should be explored.

Last night, Everton FC chief executive Keith Wyness said he had discussed the issue with Liverpool FC chief executive Rick Parry at a Football Association meeting in Leicestershire and a shared stadium “was not on the agenda of either club”.

But last night a spokesman for Liverpool FC declined to comment.

"To go that big leap into the Champions League is a real big order of events," O'Neill told The Mirror.

Is O'Neill conceding defeat in keeping hold of Barry?

Quaresma has been priced at £24m to buy out his contract, he's a good player undoubtedly but for £24m I'd rather spend half that and get Bentley. Who we're still interested in and is our next target after Barry it seems.

Hicks has also came out and slammed talk of us groundsharing, which is nice. Whether anyone believes him anymore is a different matter ...

Fernando Torres praises goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero

Jun 6 2008

by Christopher Beesley, Liverpool Daily Post

OE of Liverpool’s big success stories from overseas, Fernando Torres, who netted 33 goals in his debut season at Anfield, has revealed that a lot of his success is down to an unfamiliar source – Liverpool goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero..

“We’ve a Spanish goalkeeping coach and he has been a genius at telling me every week exactly what kind of task lies in front of me in the following match,” said Torres.

“Nobody has ever worked with me like this before. It’s outstanding. Basically, I know days before the next game exactly the best way to finish a chance against the keeper I’m about to face.

"Xavi Valero tells me precisely what each keeper tends to do – stay big, go down early, if they have a preferred side they try to push you to. It’s vital information. I’ve refined the way I take chances as a result.”

Interesting, something I've never thought about before!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Dossena is done. seems like your backline is set for next season, will Agger be ready for the start of the season? I think taking a gamble on Quaresma could be great or go totally wrong. I think Real will turn to him if they dont get our no.7

Re: Liverpool Thread

£24m though? It's WAY expensive for someone who could prove to be a liability with his attitude etc, surely?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well to be honest its all about the risk, seems like a similar situation as you had with Torres last summer, but personally i dont think you lot would have to many issues with his attitude.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa does have a good reputation of taming people's attitude. Can't see us coming up with £24m for one player though. Not sure I'd rather see Villa or Quaresma either ...

Re: Liverpool Thread

We won't get Quaresma. When have we ever signed a player, who has been the target of several other top clubs (Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid in this case), and enter into a bidding competition. We'll never be able to outbid those clubs. We got Torres, only because Torres wanted to come to Liverpool and no one else. Only way I can see Quaresma coming here, is if he specifically stated his desire to play for Liverpool. Rafa will never get into a bidding war.

Great player though. Very talented and a big game player. But very inconsistent. He'll be awesome against the main rivals, but utterly shite against the smaller teams.

Our backline looks very, very strong.

Degen/Arbeloa Carra/Skrtel Agger/Hyypia Dossena/Aurelio

Can't think of a better center half squad, with as much quality in depth. You've got Carragher, who's probably been the most consistent defender in big games over the past few years. Sami, and what a monster of a player he's been this season. 34, and still going. And he's 4th choice! And Skrtel, 23, who's just fucking immense, and kept Anelka, Drogba, Adebayor, Berbatov quiet in his first 4th months. And he's got genuine pace, and the ability to play the ball. And then, my personal favorite, Agger, who's the most talented young defender around. He's got touch and vision, that would put most playmakers to shame, a shot that would terrify most goal keepers, and most importantly, such composure and positioning in defense, I've only seen a young Nesta have it.

Left back looks strong as well. Best left back in Serie A, with pace and power, and Fabio, who has always been consistent whenever playing, and a player with great vision, and a tremendous cross.

Right is where I go 'Meh, not quiet up to', but still think both Arbeloa and Degen are good enough to make right back their own. Degen is an athlete, with pace, power and technique, and I think he'll do well. Maybe even brilliantly, if Rafa can help him unlock his potential. And Arby was awesome at the beginning of the season. Was the best full back in the league in the first 2 months. Hopefully, he remains injury free, and can perform consistently.

And you have Masch, the monster in front of them. No worries, just sort out set pieces!!

Now, Rafa, time to concentrate on attack.

Re: Liverpool Thread

All eyes on Degen for this first Euro 2008 match, I've not seen him play before so this should be interesting against a good Czech Rep team.

Edit: On the bench :(
