Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Welcome, just saw a replay of last year's 3-0 win @ Marseille, wonder what made us regress to our current situation as the tactics appears the same (Torres, Benny, Gerrard, Masch and Kewell, who played really2 well) .. Wonder goal by Torres for those who remembers :)

4-0 ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Stevie G is almost definitely out for the United game. I'd like to see Babel play up front with Keane.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'd have said we'd lose 100%, if Gerrard and Torres were fit. But, missing our two main players might result in us pulling out a back-against-the-walls performances, and scraping through a win. And surely, by the law of fucking averages, we're due some luck? Any, at all?

Our players need to show some bottle. Especially Xabi. He plays like a pussy in these games. A player who can outclass Zidane, and give a world class performance in a Champions League final, has to show some bottle. Pull your finger out Xabi.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not just Xabi, mate, far more than him bottle it. Gerrard is the main culprit, so personally I think it MIGHT be a blessing in disguise that he's out.

Gutted Torres is out though :((

Gerrard's the same. Didn't mention him, 'cos he's not playing.

I agree, him not playing (and Torres) might be a blessing in disguise. And Keane needs to step up.

Re: Liverpool Thread

FERNANDO TORRES is winning his battle to be fit for Liverpool’s showdown with Manchester United on Saturday.

The Spanish striker was initially ruled out for “between two and three weeks” after suffering a hamstring tear during the goalless draw against Aston Villa nine days ago.

It meant Torres was instantly ruled out of the visit of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, as well as missing Spain’s World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Armenia.

But Liverpool’s medical staff have been encouraged by the speed at which Torres has responded to treatment on the injury.

And now the Anfield outfit are hopeful their club record signing will take to the field against the champions at the weekend.

Any luck at all? Have you seen your first 3 matches this season :)

Though against United I'm happy to admit we've been second best a few times in the past couple seasons, but still pulled it out. O'Sheas winner in particular.

Is Rafa getting all Wenger with injuries? I remember Arsene was the master of 'No there is no way Henry is playing dis week against United' then out he'd run onto the pitch. It got to the point where if Wenger mentioned someone injured I'd just assume he was starting.

I think Torres and Gerrard will feature. Ronaldo won't.

I also think it's going to be dire, because United aren't firing so will look to keep it tight and Liverpool always play like that. Similar to the 'spectacle' that was Keano's last match for United. Worst. Match. Ever.

 Even im shocked you tried to pull that one of Abhi?! :))
Anyway Torres will play, Gerrard won't as he bottles it anyway so I doubt he was to gutted to miss this one. If Torres plays we will be then sweating on Rio's fitness. I can see a corner or setpeice being the difference though either way.

You want my death or what ?? :SS

Re: Liverpool Thread

Would love to see Babel play through the middle, he must be "match
fit" now...?
Won't be suprised if Benitez goes with a weird starting line up
like Lucas starting along side Masch...

Sorry if I didn't make it clear.

Just look at the Sociedad-Madrid game in 2002/03, when Sociedad beat Real 4-2. At 22, Xabi outplayed and outclassed Zidane and Makelele. And not by physical strength, but by outthinking and outpassing those two. Anybody, who's watched that game will agree.

And that's what infuriates me about Xabi. He's outclassed the very best, yet whenever he sees someone in a United shirt, he goes hiding. Only time he's ever shown bottle for Liverpool is when Gerrard's not around, and I'd hope that is the case on Saturday. Because, clearly, he's one of the most talented players in the world. He needs to show some bottle and actually use it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No hyypia in CL list!

 I heard about that, Its due to the lack of English players you have. Once you signed Riera that affectively meant Hyypia wasn't going to make the squad.

Abhi - Yeh he is a decent player but if im honest I cant see him performing for you lot now since it looks like he wants to move on. Alonso - Barry saga is very similar to Ronaldo - Robinho one to be fair.

He's never wanted to move though. He's made it clear. He wants to stay. Think he proved his commitment in the game against Sunderland, where he was just sublime.

No surprise about Sami. We have more cover at center back, than in forward positions, so Ngog got the nod ahead of Sami. Carra, Agger, Skrtel and even Arbeloa can play there. None of the teams we'll face in the group stage are the good in the air either, so I don't think Sami would have played anyways. He'll be back in the knockout rounds though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

According to this report it applies for the competition, hence group and knockout stages.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=570809&sec=uefachampionsleague&cc=4716

So unless one other Foreign player (preferable CB so not to unbalance the team) goes to a tough spell / major injury, then there's no way Hyppia will be playing CL this season, which is a pity for him. He's absolutely shell shocked says the media.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I personally didn't think it's a c*ck up, if you were to choose 3 CB out of 4, who would you choose? The ones Rafa picked ahead of Hyppia. The rules are the one that forced this situation so I think he made the correct decision in that sense. It's abit unfair though for him to be left out.

Remember this is for the group stages only and changes can be made before the knockout stages.
