Juventus Thread

Christ, what a shot by Kily. I suspect if it hadn't hit the crossbar, though, Chimenti would have got a paw to it. Just shows the thin line between a great goal and a great save.

The head of the Italian referee association has defended under-fire official Emilio Pellegrino.

The man in black has been heavily criticised by Inter after they were dumped out of the Coppa Italia by Juventus last night.

But Paolo Bergamo insists he is happy with Pellegrino’s display in the semi-final clash at the San Siro.

"Pellegrino officiated in an excellent manner," Bergamo declared. "He did make a few mistakes but not at critical points of the game."

That view is unlikely to be shared by the majority of Nerazzurri fans who witnessed the game on Thursday.

There were two main incidents that caused controversy. The first was the dismissal of Ivan Cordoba.

He hacked down Pavel Nedved as the Juventus ace was about to enter the penalty area to unleash a shot. An instant red, probably justified, followed.

Yet it was the decision to not award Inter a penalty soon after that infuriated the home side. Paolo Montero seemed to bring down Emre in the area but no spot kick was awarded.

Inter chief Giacinto Facchetti described Pellegrino’s display as "unacceptable" with a number of Nerazzurri players also unhappy.

The latest being Dejan Stankovic (pictured) who is mystified at what happened during his side’s penalty shoot-out defeat.

"I’ve never taken part in a game like that in my life," quotes the Inter website. "I can’t say too much as I would almost certainly be banned for my comments.

"I don’t really want to talk about the referee because he doesn’t deserve it. We gave it our all but everyone saw what happened on the pitch :D ;)

A great combo :D

02/12/2004. According to reports, Juventus are heading the queue for Jaap Stam.

The Dutchman is also being watched by Inter and Milan, but Juventus, who are set to undergo a squad overhaul this summer, have made defence a priority after conceding 25 goals in 20 Serie A matches.

With Paolo Montero and Ciro Ferrara both ageing, Marcello Lippi will be keen to get another commanding centre-back on board, and Stam would appear just the job.

Daniele Bonera and Matteo Ferrari of Parma are also being following, while Lillian Thuram could be a surprise departure. The Frenchman reportedly has offers from the Premiership.

Another one:
02/13/2004. Monaco defender Sebastien Squillaci is aware that he is being watched by Italian giants Juventus, and has not ruled out a summer move.

"I know that Juve have followed me for a long time and I am flattered," he said. "There is a season to end with Monaco, before taking any decisions. Sure, to play in Italy would appeal to me alot."

i think squillaci is ok, but Stam! he is also ageing as Ferrara and Montero, so what's the difference ?!!

If Ferrara and the other aging defenders leave. Stam would be good. A great defender for one season who helps the young ones with experience. I like Ferarri and Bonera more than Squillaci.
I wouldn't be that bothered with Thuram's departure, he's kind of 'over the hill' anyway.
Get oddo and/or Trabelsi I say..

Lippi please do not sell Maresca and Miccoli

Anyway Nedved and Trezeguet may leave in the summer, maybe a big trade with Barcelona players. I'd keep Nedved one more season, but i'd already get a replacement.
