Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I might get prologue 5, I don't know. I loved GT4 on PS2 but like GT3 I never got around to finishing it. Some of the endurance races and stuff I just never had time for... Good graphics and gameplay in my opinion just never manage 100% them. And I don't wanna use an action replay either just to help me finish it.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I got bored with GT4 in no time at all.... Dull, uninspiring AI, was winning races easily and to me all cars drove the same. Had the same issue with GT3. I only liked 1 and 2 and completed them both.

Welcome to the forums Yana.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Oh, thank you. :D

I remember on GT3 once you won the F1 car most of the races were too easy and it seemed like the AI wouldn't change anything to try harder, so I know what you mean with that. Also some of the endurance races just bored me if they were easy. I couldn't be bothered.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

There actually from replay mode which is touched up compared to in game but tbh its not so far off it. :))

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

'Touched up' is not really fair - just that the replays have more filters applied to them in the game, than the actual racing.

It isnt much different though.

I played some of the Jap Version this morning to see if I could get into it and justify the price tag, and I think I can! The incar view is the best I've ever experienced in a game. The way the car rolls and tilts as you brake and corner - very nice - actually found myself leaning forward as I broke hard for a corner and the car tipped forwards.

16 players online, PS3 exclusive, great looking, very smooth... must say, its tempting!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

wondering what modelling method they use for their cars. must be some sort of 1:1 3d scanner with a lot of fine-tuning afterwards

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

This probably has already been discussed.

Do the cars get all shattered on the game, or just the ocasional bump?
Any truth to fact that some companies wouldn't let polyphony digital to allow their cars to get destroyed in game?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

The video isn't working...

EDIT: Yes it is, amazing!

“…private races with buddies and in-game chat are all in the works… but will not be ready from day one. Will keep you posted on the progress!”

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Again lovely eye candy from PD... wonder if they have worked on the core gameplay? I REALLY hope so.... Playing a game that looks this good with good gameplay would be a dream!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I still dont get why they cant do a decent damage engine... I think using licensing as an excuse is bullshit.

They came out earlier this month I think to explain.

Basically, their reasoning is that as PD as such perfectionists, they couldnt do a full damage engine justice. They would want EVERY single piece of damage to have a reaction to the driving model and they said to do that would take years to have it exactly right - they also said they would want the damage to do perfect damage to the car - i.e. light taps would scratch and bend the car body, bigger shunts may see pieces fall off.

So its a case of all or nothing - and they have gone for nothing. They said that other games damage models are 'superficial' or something like that.

They have said though that they *may* put damage in GT5, but it will probably just be visual.

To be honest, I quite like the lack of damage - makes GT5 more 'grown up' for serious racers. The idea is actually to 'race' and not to crash! :D

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

A generic crash engine would suffice mate! Thats a bullshit excuse... Also they arent perfectionists.... far from it!

Nah I know... GT is superb, but if it was THE BEST game ever you could understand it. So many problems plague it from the slow paced game play, the bad AI etc.

GRiD looks amazing, cannot wait to see if that footage is genuine - if it is, PD better re-think their philosophy...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Looking forward to this.

Sure the AI will probably still leave an awful lot to be desired, hopefully the online mode will render this a moot point. I don't mind the damage thing, I loved GT 1-4 and none of those had damage modelling. It's not a tough decision. If damage means that much to you, avoid Gran Turismo, not a big thing for me so I'll pick the game up.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Classic is back....

I loved GT 1 + 2 but then again we didnt know any better in them days. But when GT3 came about I was underwhelmed, they hadnt improved the gameplay at all... It was GT2 plus less cars in that case and better Graphics... GT4 improved the graphics again and got the car count back to above 700 but once again rubbish AI and crappy physics ruined it for me,I soon got bored....

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

So, will we be having rubber cars again? No damage is a very big minus in my opinion. It has to be in.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

The Gran Turismo series reminds me of Paris Hilton. Great to look at but not much going on upstairs......
