I think it's pretty much aiming to be "FUT Exxxtreme". My hope is that EA don't take any inspiration from it (but if it doesn't take a significant chunk of their player base, I don't think it will).
 
The ball reacts to hitting the keeper's hands as if it's being power-kicked away. Ball physics just aren't part of this game (or any other modern football game), it's all about "where's it most fun for the ball to go". Loose balls literally aren't allowed. The game "flowing" is all that matters.

Pass accuracy etc. is clearly so high that, just like EAFC, games are just "you shoot, now I shoot, now you shoot" for 90 minutes.

UFL looks dreadful but I think Goals looks even worse. It's so depressing to have waited so long for a FIFA alternative, and then two appear at once, with no intention of mimicking real-life in any way, shape or form. Just more simplistic, "action-packed" Super-Mario-esque crap, because that's what FUT is, and that's where the money is.

Do they truly not realise that constant counters and loads of goals is boring as hell? There's not much investment, or jeopardy, when you know the next chance/goal is only 20 seconds away (and requires zero thought).
 
Still raw. Player model looks ugly af. This game would be appropriate if it's made as futsal/street football game.
 
That floaty beach ball and the power shooting...

Kills me to say it, but it reminds me a little bit of EAFC. Much worse, obviously, but still. It makes you realise the path EA are on, but also, all other football games.

The more I watch that clip the worse it looks. Not even prime Zlatan could have pulled off that turn and shot. No wonder the keeper looks like reactions haven't been programmed in for him.

I had a PS Vita football game I can't even remember the name of that looked better than this.

I play PS Vita, as only bought one last year. I love it. FIFA 14 on that looks and plays great, exactly like PS3 version.
 
Just got access to their Alpha and have to say this might have been the worst football game I ever played. Ridiculous skating, floaty ball,magnetic goal keepers. I know former Fifa Pro Players are their designers and you can see what they like: all twitchy gameplay, open defense.

my game ended 4-3 for me and none of the goals felt rewarding.

Im thinking honestly Football Games are the hardest to code. There could be many GOOD football games with overpowered shooting, or speedy players having a big influence, or less tactical depth...BUT almost all footy games suffer fundamental issues. Maybe 1-2 playable football games came out after PES 6, and before PES 6 no other football games could do similar to PES and there were a couple of attempts. Says it all.
 
Football games are definitely some of the hardest to make, which is also why I would wait and see what 2K really is delivering since it is a big difference to the other sports they did. Having to think about the positioning and adaptability of 22 individual players, bringing in the personality and differences in stats and style of play, the unique differences in certain abilities, the different ways of run and positioning depending on tactics, the physics of the ball combined with pitch and weather conditions and the split second decision making that football demands, is a big difference to Basketball, Tennis and American Football games, so will be interesting to see how they manage.

There have been lots of attempts on football games in the years be it Club Football, This is Football, football kingdom and others and only few succeeded long term. I do believe it is one of the hardest sports to replicate (maybe Handball is even harder).

As someone said before the answer is probably in simplifying the game and going back, not making it more complex. As the more complicated EA and Konami are making the games the worse they are becoming. Better to restrict possible movements and actions, as then you only have a few variables to deal with.

My dream game is something like PES3 or 5/SWOS, very simple graphics and control system, but then add as much depth and complexity to the controls as possible. So I can then express myself creatively in offence and do anything my mind thinks of. If I can think quickly enough and press the tight control button, I can use the defender's inertia against him and sharply turn past him in the box etc. Then a defensive system that calls fouls if you just run into the attacker and don't get the ball. Stamina system that kills your players if you sprint constantly. And you need regular passes and/or through balls to be at least semi manual, although I'd say fully manual. Otherwise counter attacks are overpowered. Hence why FIFA guys play park the bus and then counter, as easy to score when you can laser guide a pass so you're through on goal in 1 second.

Then have regular manager/league/cup mode offline and you can create any team/cup/league competition you want. Online have 1v1, have manual servers, have a 2v2, 5V5 and 11v11 mode. Then you cover everything. That is my dream, simple retro football, but refine the controls with strict parameters of retro games and add more online options. I'd happily pay like 35-50pm if Konami did this and were showing they are slowly developing a classic into a refined version, I'm sure many would. Then they could monetise many cosmetic or gameplay features, too.

Exactly, this is also the football game of my dreams. Of course, don’t expect KONAMI, EA, etc. to make something like this. Expect it from an indie developer. As I’ve mentioned before, Baz, who created Gameplay Football, is capable of creating something similar, but I don’t know if he will do it for personal reasons and not due to a lack of ability. Even Ballsy! World Cup 2020 is a very simple football game, but with very good AI. However, it’s 6v6. Now, he is working on Ballsy! League, an 11v11 game with career mode. If he ever completes it, I believe he will give us something very good. The only thing it won’t have is online modes. If it’s not Baz, then we can only hope for something similar from other indie studios. Take Tennis Elbow, for example.

Yeah I love Gameplay Football. Baz could easily create what I described. I get the feeling he doesn't want to pander to people, he wants to do his own thing and have zero interference, which I totally get and respect him for.

It's just if he pandered a little, perhaps got outside assistance. I think he could create something special that would be very marketable and make him very rich. I wish I had the coding skill and abilities required. As I'd happily create what I describe.
 
Good football games are hard to make, no doubt.
But the real issue is that new football games are aimed at the PvP always-online crowd.
Nobody has any interest in creating a good single player simulation experience.
The real money is in mobile games and gacha micro transactions FUT modes...
I recently tried the latest FIFA, I uninstalled it and refunded it on Steam quicker than a Mbappé counter...
I guess I'm stuck on PES21 for life.

Even if you just want "arcade fun" it looks absolutely dreadful - you don't have to play it to see how on rails it is, and how the ball does whatever it wants despite the context (e.g. stopping dead when it reaches its target like a remote-controlled car that's run out of batteries, without anyone controlling it).

I'll be genuinely amazed if this game does well, when you've got eFootball, UFL and others out there doing it 10x-100x better.

Guess you guys know that guy at the start of the video? I've watched him on Twitch. He was a FIFA streamer, but they banned him. He is extremely arrogant and extremely opinionated. He wants everything to be ultra responsive, that's his big thing.

I like how he says they respect football, but will bend the rules when necessary. Ermmm...why?

Yup, the infamous Kurt. The man's a bonehead with a bogey for a brain.

I mean on the one hand, if you don't like a football game, either go make your own or suck it up... but on the other hand, this game doesn't even achieve anything that doesn't exist already with a higher quality standard.

For all his ranting's about FIFA at the time, you'd still be better off playing the worst FIFA game than this. And there's better quality amateur indy fooball games with more polish than this too.
 
Talking about tacklings at 0:44. "We want to make sure that the player keeps the ball.", "There's nothing more frustating than making a good tackle, [...] , and you don't end up with the ball." In other words, leave the physics out of the game and give the FUT kids what they keep complaining about all the time with FIFA/EAFC.

There is no need to follow anything about this game.

There's nothing more frustrating than people who contradict themselves saying they want to make a football game but also don't want to replicate the unpredictable aspects of real football such as tackles aren't always guaranteed to be successful. Anyone who's ever played at least one match in real life knows this.

It's like making a racing game where you're always in first position to keep the player happy, that's not exactly the spirit of competition is it. If you complain it doesn't always go your way than maybe sports/competitive games aren't for you.

Exactly. This was the part that hit me the most.
Kurt always was an absolute imbecile, so no surprise there.
And like you said - there's no need to check any more articles/reviews/clips about this game.

Just saying, but this is a PvP game, so the other player will have the chance of regaining the ball with another tackle. The game will be competitive enough, don't worry.
