General Sim Racing Thread

Formula Truck is brilliant. The physics are so much fun and demand a different driving style from everything else. You rarely get bored of power sliding a 1000bhp truck. Reiza's stuff is quite niche interest though, so online pick up racing is hard to come by. You need to get involved at Race Department for organised GSC and FT meets.

Regarding R3E, as far as I'm aware Sector3 are looking at a mid-November release for their next update. Whether that means later this week or some time next, I don't know, but I'm confident DTM 2014 will be part of it. Looking forward to the update as we finally get pitstops and tyre strategy.

Congrats on the 970. You won't be disappointed.

Just found out that DTM 2013 content will be available to use in R3E with the next update. They must have negotiated this with the licence holders. Great news.

Yeah, really enjoying FT and it'll be even better when they update it! I'll maybe get licensed at RD soon. I was thinking I'd do it when R3E gets dedicated server support and RD start doing club races with it.

Good news about content being accessible within R3E now. That's made it more tempting to get DTM2014 when it's out, though I know it won't be accessible with my other content right away.

Definitely not disappointed with the 970. Finally got GSCE and ISI engine stuff looking how I want it (i.e. no shimmering!). Glad to finally have an Nvidia card again.

No, but I've thought about it. Added it to my wishlist and I'll look to get it soon. I remember DD, christ, that's a long time ago now!

Pretty sad to say though, I bought Euro Truck Simulator 2 earlier. Seen it mentioned so many times, saw it for £4 and thought, :CENSOR: it! Actually enjoyed what I've played of it so far as well.

*Portimao free for everyone*

Anyone who likes racing sims and hasn't tried R3E now has a high quality track to experience for free.

I see that there is few of you who recommend R3E as a good sim I have a few questions:

1. Is it possible to run the game on lower end PC as I am the owner of one like that. My specifications:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1,86GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD5450 1GB
Memory: 2GB DDR2
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x86

2. Is it possible to earn new content through driving or is it only available for purchase? I don't really have lots of money so possibility to earn new content through my driving would be a nice goal to set for myself.

3. How is it received in community? Are there lots of players online to race with?

1. Couldn't say for sure but as it's a free-to-play game I would download it and see for yourself. R3E doesn't use the most advanced engine (basically a refined rF1 engine) but it can still be quite graphically demanding.

2. Not really. Like most F2P games nothing comes for free. There's no grinding for new content. You want stuff, you buy it. You can at least buy only the content you want but buying everything makes R3E quite expensive compared to a normal retail game.

They continually run hot-lap competitions where points can be won but unless you're an alien it's not worth it.

3. Servers aren't very active apart from a few hours in the evening. What I have played online has been really good. It really needs dedicated servers to get interest from leagues and communities.

Aside from that, R3E is widely considered the most improved sim this year. It's gone from a slightly arcade racer more towards a proper sim.

Also, I know you're a big F1 fan so if you're looking for open wheel content then R3E doesn't have it....yet. It's very much touring/sports/GT car focused.

Lads, just bought some Fanatec ClubSport Pedals V2. I can't praise these enough, they have made racing sims so much more fun than with my DFGT pedals. I could never manage F1 cars without a bit of traction control and abs but now I can handle them no problem! Couldn't recommend these enough, well worth the $250 (plus $180 for a WheelStand Pro, also definitely worth the money!)

@Jamezinho

Thanks for your reply, I'll probably try it this weekend.

I asked this 2nd question about possibility of earning new content instead of buying it because I used to play Star Trek: Online quite a lot about a year ago. It is too F2P game but some content needs ZEN coins to be bought, and those coins can be acquired by purchase with real money or by converting Deuterium ingame. Conversion method is really slow and tedious, but it is achievable

@cuky.....R3E has no way of earning credits like that. Just think of it as a modular game with a very limited free base.

I'm using CSP v2's with a Wheelstand Pro too. Only trouble is the stand weighs a ton now due to the sheer mass of the all-metal pedals! Very good pedal set though, not a bad price really. They are liable to a few issues but I've owned mine for about 18 months with little to complain about.

Yep it's a nightmare moving it! I'll probably do my back in when I eventually and the CSP Wheelbase V2. Still loving the pedals, you're right they do have a few quirks but unplugging/plugging them back in seems to fix everything. Can't wait for the new wheelbase to come out so I can complete my setup. And then I'll need an Oculus Rift. And proper seat.

I've also got a TH8RS shifter mounted to mine so that's extra weight. Also working on a custom tablet mount to be bolted to the stand so I can run Dashmeter Pro. Definitely going to give the back some trouble moving this thing.

I have stumbled upon a promo code for iRacing today that gives every new user a 3 months subscription for free. I wanted to try iRacing for quite a long time and now I finally was able to. I am still a bit lost in it but I like what I have seen so far. And that is with driving on gamepad and all...I will definitely consider buying a 6 months or 1 year subscription if I buy a wheel after this summer.

If anyone is interested here is a promo code that still works:
PR-BLANCPAIN2015

Just make sure to disable auto-renewal in your account settings so that they don't charge you automatically after those 3 months expire.

Nope. You have to go to iRacing site and go to Sing Up. Then you can enter your code here:

After you register you can go to your account settings and at the bottom there is a button on which you can click to get a Steam code that will connect your iRacing account with Steam.

Currently the Logitech G29 is £133 on Amazon.

Does anyone know if this is a good wheel or not?
Apparently it is the same wheel as the G27 but quieter.

As a G27 owner I say it's good considering its price.
When it comes to brake pedal effort, people say G27 is better than T500RS.

@PRO_TOO

Old forum, but sure can add stuff here...
Is an Admin able to change the title to possibly be about generic racing games in general rather than solely PC?
thanks!!

@Tom or @Chris Davies + admins: please dont mind the double post!

hey guys,

maybe you could help me out here, as i was too long gone from the PC business! :D

plan: triple screen RacingSim setup
hardare in focus: https://preisvergleich.check24.de/g...-va-panel-144hz-1ms-400cd-m-gb3266qsu-b1.html
https://preisvergleich.check24.de/g...d-2560-x-1440-va-panel-165hz-4ms-400cd-m.html
goal: i am building a small gaming PC just for SimRacing. All i need is a decent gfx card that is not to expensive! and yes, i know about the current situation (but i have hope in good folk selling a used card for a fair price just for the sake of not beeing "greedy")...! ;)

A Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB RAM, Tomahawk Max II, Crucial P2, Cooler Master Fan, Cooler Master 700W PS and a BeQuiet Case are at home already, waiting to be installed! The goal is to snatch a GTX 1060 (around 6GB) somewhere and play in FHD for now.

When i do invest in a triple setup i want them to be future proof so i choose 2 QHD models. 32 inch seems to be the sweetspot for SimRacing.

Any probs when playing FHD games on those QHD screens!?

Any recommandations and tipps are much appreciated!
🙏

Mine is a GTX1060 6GB which runs smoothly in the 2+ years old games, such as Asseto Corsa, Project CARS 2, and F1 2019 on 2560X1080 resolution with ultra settings. But I don't have any idea if it could defend itself against recent motor sports games(supposedly not), as I haven't bought any racing game for two years except for a garbage called The Crew 2.
Under the crazy situations of current prices of the graphics cards, I'd like to say to you to wait another two years and snatch a RTX3070 right before NVIDIA release the next RTXs, that's what I'll do.

i was planning to play AC and PC2 (and some RaceRoom)!! thats cool!
it really is a crazy situation... but i dont want to wait 2 years! i want to race now! or at least in 2021! :D

That PC would be more than adequate for HD gaming.
I play racing games on a 27" 4K monitor, and a 55" TV occasionally when playing on the PS5.
TBH I am more than happy with a 27" monitor when playing on PC as sat about a metre away and when I owned a 32" I thought it was a bit on the large size, especially for normal use.

If you purchase a GFX card now and a 1070 or similar, you will easily be able to play racing games in HD at 60FPS+
The supply and demand on GFX cards though is meant to continue, as with the so called K economy kicking in Nvidia have apparently stated to insiders that they don't expect the 3000 series GPU's to be available until next year. (By this I mean you can go on Amazon and just buy one)
This however has also increased the prices of older generation GPU's as I have seen recently that even 2000 series GPU's are now selling on eBay for new prices.

thanks for the feedback!
so i'm pretty much f'ed! :D
yeah i know, its the damn wrong time to start a project like this! well, i'm in hope for a used card somehow soon...

well, for a racing setup i'd really prefer a bit more of height in the picture, even when i'd not be that far away from the screen. 27" is not an option for my project. and oh boy... i've seen triple 65" setups (3.500 Euro one screen!!!) that look gorgeous (even when this is way outta this world)!
my head is set on a size of 32". :)

Forget about the triple screens and use a single screen instead. Triple screens are overkill if you're not an enthusiast.

I've not tried VR but if I was going to upgrade from single screen, I'd be looking at VR. It seems to bring far more immersion.

Do you have a wheel yet?
