[General Discussion] What have you been playing this week?

I bought MH Worlds long time ago and it didnt click with me. Then i tried MH Rise on gamepass and I hated it. Not as much when it comes to combat, but my god, this game was so childish that I wasnt sure if I wasnt playing Pokemon. The colours, the atmosphere, everything. I was disgusted.
MH Rise was the reason I never even looked at Wilds, because I thought the franchise was gone the pokemon way.
Then I saw a clip on reddit of someone battling a dragon during lightning storm, without any HUD on the screen and I absolutely loved it.

Wilds went back to more dark and gritty setting and the addition of mounted combat brings so much fluidity and mobility. The entire combat is so smooth and satisfying. To a point where I installed MH Worlds as well.

I was very sad when they announced closing down New World MMO, because I thought the action combat in there was amazing and Monster Hunter reminds me of this a lot. Especially the greatswords are similar. So im having a blast.

Edit:
This fucking game, without HUD, is absolute epicness:

Ps. I never tried Nioh 2. I bought both Nioh 1 and 2 and wanted to finish the first one before starting the second, but the first one just tired me out. I found it very frustrating and dropped it. Do you recon I should forget about 1 and play the second, or is it more of the same? Very frustrating bosses that take few days to beat?

I really enjoyed MH Wilds, It was a bit more streamlined but the combat was fantastic. I just reached a point where I think I was just waiting for DLC as I did the final dragon and then got tired of grinding for sets. But I enjoyed my time with it. On what platform are you playing? I played on XSX and the forest map sometimes looked like minecraft (havent played in around 8 months. I dont know if they ever improved it. (that robot omega boss was a pain in the as tho)

I totally get what you are saying of MHRIse as that was my impression too, I dropped it I think 3 times before sticking with it.. It just finally clicked at some point.I think all of them are great and the good thing is the movesets for weapons translate well to each game, so I just bounce from one to another.

I have Nioh 1 but never installed it. I just went straight into Nioh 2. It can get frustrating at times and some bullshit bosses, but Ive read its easier than 1. You also have a bunch of weapons that each play differently and once you learn their skills it becomes a bit easier (bosses still wreck). You can also try Nioh 3 which is def easier. and still good, although Im worn out on open world games.
I enjoy that type of combat, same as wo-long. I have yet to try Rise of the Ronin which seems to be same-y combat but not as difficult.

Im on PS5, havent had any issues with the graphics after I calibrated the in-game HDR, colours and brightness. Default was very washed out and bright.

I was never one to grind the end game, so if I get to the end ill either put it down and wait for the next year's expansion, or ill play MH World, coz there's like 70 monsters to go through.

I really enjoyed my time with Nioh, I just thought the game was designed for really hardcore audience who likes to be stuck on bosses. I dont have time for this. Dont mind the challenge, but if im stuck for hours - I can find better things to do. Might try Nioh 2 since this was already bit more fleshed out.

But I love this type of combat myself, where I can be more tactical.

If you fancy trying something a little different but with similar, tactical vibe - have a look into Path of Exile 2. This is shaping up to be a really cool game.

Is it running fine at 60fps? Or you are running balanced I think at 40fps? Resolution acceptable and all? I should get back to it... Also need to finish Iceborne, Im on xbox so I would be more motivated if there were people to join in the fights, I also have it on steam but my progress is all on xbox.

I think Nioh 3 has a demo, if you want to try the feel for it, I feel the mobs are easier, but the bosses are still challenging. If you vibe with that combat, then move to Nioh 2

I really like PoE2, I completed the campaign a few updates ago and re-downloaded to try the end game now that it is more fleshed out, but they wanted me to replay the entire campaign, so I clocked out in the 2nd act. Gonna wait to full release, but it is really fun.

...Im half embarrassed half proud to say that I usually play on Prioritise Graphics and 30fps, coz Im used to it and it doesnt bother me...

Yeah Id say the game would be even more epic with others, but so far Im running solo. I had somebody joining me in battering a monster once, but I dont even know if he actually joined my quest, or just happened to wander in. Dont know how the lobbies work exactly. Is it just HUB area that you can see others?

When you go on a mission you can set it as public for other people to join you, but at least in MH World it has to be in Master Rank as almost no one is lower rank. Last time on Wilds it was very easy to join fights with a bunch of people. You go to the girl in glasses that gives out the missions and then there is a list of active people you can join and who they are fighting. You did say you were playing the story; I did story solo so I don't remember how it was, but once you reach MR it opens up a bit with replaying fights (tempered and 7-9 star monsters).
Its def fun with people when they are good, sometimes you get someone who carts in 10 seconds (although Ive been that guy a few times....)

@Isslander - have you played Echoes of the End?

☝️ Thats a really good game, guys. Found it by complete accident going through PS Plus. Its an Indie Game, a linear fantasy adventure game.
Think of it as cross between Uncharted and Witcher.
Its made by a small Icelandic studio and the world crafted by them is a fantasy version of Iceland.
(Hence I asked Isslander to see if he was aware of it, but he just ignored me. )

Haven't played it, no. Would have checked it out already if not for backlog/lack of time. With improvements made since launch it seems like a fairly impressive first game.

And no, I was not ignoring you, I'm just lazy like that 😇
