Formula1

Mexico was going around for 2-3 years already (when Perez showed up in F1) and they have finally secured the place for 2015. I think it will go forward as it has already been confirmed (Korea is only non-confirmed race in 2015 calendar) and there are lots of positive reactions from fans (well, those older nostalgic fans who witnessed races there) and from drivers. They will race at Hermanos Rodriguez circuit where F1 was racing until early 90s.

As for Portimao, I like that track from what I have driven in different sims and from few races I saw irl. But I think that it will suffer like quite a few tracks do: there are lots of other series' who have great races there but when F1 comes it is just dull and uneventful. And then they say that tracks are the problem...

According to Auto-Motor und Sport, those are the changes in rules regarding engines (or Power Units) for next 2 years
For 2015:
- only little changes made to the engine regs
- 4 engines for the season
- if a team doesn't use all the 32 modifiable items until february 28th, the remaining items can be used during the season

For 2016:
- all the team representatives share the opinion that new engine regs should be introduced
- the FIA asked for maximum engine costs of 10 million € (maybe only 5)
- 1000hp is the subjective, maybe through a higher fuel flow allowed, the current V6 should be the base
- agreement on a list of standardized components (could be the battery)
- free engine development
- the engine departments of the teams have to come up with a solution until the end of january

It would be amazing to see those current PU's to do 4 or 5 races each as 2015 will have 21 races.

Also, 1000hp PU's for 2016...wow

and we are on. New Williams FW37 (its CFD model) is featured on the cover of new F1 Racing

EDIT: And apparently this is "leaked" paint scheme for McLaren Honda (but nobody can confirm it until McLaren launches their car)

I like it (if true).

White/red/black makes sense as these colours are synonymous with the McLaren-Honda days of old. The colour scheme also gives it the look of a Honda works team, which it will be to all intents and purposes. At least it now differentiates the team from the silver Mercedes.

McLaren's traditional colour is orange really, so I'd love to see them go back to that one day.

McLaren's traditional color is orange, true. But they were known in 70s with white-red cars, while most of F1 fans remember them by their 80s and early 90s Marlboro white-red combination, which was also paired with Honda engines.

This white-red-black combo really seems to imply that they are Honda works team, as Honda uses that colors in, for example, WTCC and when they were inWRC

EDIT: New Force India

Actually the Castrol Honda WTCC Team runs in green, white and red, obviously because of the main sponsor and possibly also because the team is Italian underneath. But the BTCC team Honda Yuasa Racing runs in red, white and black as has been the case with BTCC Honda cars down the years.

As we said, though, the colours imply Honda works involvement. It seems they are more than just an engine supplier to McLaren.

Edit - Force India looks nice but needs some green in there. Doesn't look quite right without the colours of the Indian flag.

sad thing is: Williams is the only 2015 car seen up until now. McLaren is photoshopped 2014 car, but it has been said that it has been done according to real thing.

Force India has been launched live in Mexico City (there was even free stream on FI's site) but they are a bit late with their car so they left it at factory so that they can continue work on it and have just presented new colors. This is 2014 car with 2012 rear wing and 2014 nose masked to look like 2015 one. New car will be seen for the first time on second pre-season test in Barcelona (in Jerez they will run with 2014 car).

Next presentations are:
McLaren Honda - Thursday 29th January 2015 (online)
Scuderia Ferrari - Friday 30th January 2015 (online)
Scuderia Toro Rosso - Saturday 31st January 2015 (at Jerez)
Mercedes AMG - Sunday 1st February 2015 (at Jerez)
Red Bull Racing - TBA
Lotus Mercedes - TBA
Sauber - TBA

Caterhan and Manor are still alive according to Ecclestone. He has even said that Manor has better chances to survive than Caterham. Auction that was planned for yesterday at which Marussia's cars and equipment were to be sold was canceled. There are talks that there are talks for team to be sold and if they manage to find new owner they will be allowed to compete in 2015 with 2014 car (nose does not comply to new regulations, but teams have agreed to allow them and Caterham to use old cars if they find new owners).

And in German press, mostly in AMuS (maybe you'll know more about that S-NipE) there is a lot of talk about Mercedes' PU and that total power in 2014 was about 808bhp, while expectations are that in 2015 that number will be between 848bhp and 858bhp

Sorry, can't help you with that as I'm not living in Germany any more since September and only visit it occasionally. Yet somewhere very deep in my memory I think I can remember Chrisitan Danner, race expert at the German free-TV channel sending F1, saying last season that the power will increase. I'm not that sure though, maybe I'm just mixing up stuff here.

I agree.

At Silverstone Mercedes has just finished their 100km filming day shakedown of new car. There are no pictures as it has been said that there is a 7000 pound fine for those who post pictures on the web. According to reports on twitter from those who were at Silverstone new Mercedes has a narrow low nose (best compared to McLaren MP4-21 from 2006)

EDIT: someone has shared a video of Mercedes W06 driving out of the pic, so we get to see the car 3 days before we were supposed to

EDIT: Tomorrow we shall see a bit more diverse choice of color. We'll see new Sauber C34 which should be blue and yellow due to Nasr's Banco do Brasil sponsor. It is rumored that Sauber's livery will be similar to what Nasr's GP2 car was last year

Blue is definitely confirmed as it is seen on top of the cockpit of new car in this video published by Sauber

Also tomorrow we will see new Ferrari SF15-T which should be, as always, mostly red. It is possible that it will have a bit more black than last year, while some rumors are that it will have less black and more white. What is known though is that James Allison (now technical director at Ferrari) has said in an interview that nose of the car is much better looking than that on F14-T and that car is tighter at the back.

is red bull for real? why are they trying to hide? no one will be able to see them on the track. seriously if someone shunts them off they got a good excuse lol "couldn't see you mate.."
their reserve car looks sweet though..

& the red on mclaren nose just looks awkward,.

guys from PitlaneTalk (those who were first to hint that Alonso is going at McLaren and everyone laughed at them in early September) have tweeted today that they got info from reliable source that McLaren will unveil their real livery at last test in Barcelona. (next test, also in Barcelona will be done in this livery).

RB are not for real it seems. Apparently they use this livery to hide some interesting details because all those lines can confuse those who try to look at details on bodywork. There are some thoughts though that this is just their try to get some attention back to themselves as everyone is talking about Mercedes (current champions), Ferrari (awful last season, Vettel has joined the team) and McLaren (return of Alonso and Honda).

Currently it is still an hour till the end of today. Vettel is fastest with 1:22.690 (about half a second faster than fastest time over 4 days last winter at Jerez) with Rosberg in 2nd about 4 tenths behind. But Rosberg had done almost 3 complete race distances. Others had some problems: McLaren and RB with overheating, Williams with electrics and Ferrari with their data logging. Lotus haven't even brought their car at Jerez. It should arrive later today and they will probably have limited running tomorrow.

EDIT:
Day one results

Rosberg - 157 laps
Ericsson - 73 laps
Bottas - 72 laps
Vettel - 59 laps
Sainz - 46 laps
Ricciardo - 35 laps
Alonso - 6 laps

1 Vettel (Ferrari), 1m22.620s
2 Ericsson (Sauber), 1m22.777s
3 Rosberg (Mercedes), 1m23.106s
4 Ricciardo (Red Bull), 1m23.338s
5 Bottas (Williams), 1m23.906s
6 Sainz (Toro Rosso), 1m25.327s
7 Alonso (McLaren), 1m40.738s

Red Bull is bringing much shorter nose for tomorrow, at least it has been reported like that (it'll look somewhat like Mercedes' one). It didn't pass crash tests in time for today so they produced this slightly longer one that had easier job at passing that test.

Ferrari and McLaren are rumored to bring shorter noses too before 1st race.

Louts is finally on the road after they arrived at Jerez in late afternoon yesterday

Vettel has improved a bit today from what was the best time yesterday. From 1:22.620 yesterday he improved to 1:20.984 with about 5 hours of running still left

Red Bull though had lost a front wing, but that didn't stop them from sending Kvyat out to do few laps without it.
Daniil-Kvat-Red-Bull-Formel-1-Test-Jerez-2-Februar-2015-fotoshowImage-fcb5ce20-840763.jpg

Joke is that they are sending him out on track in "Toro Rosso mode" :D

what happened at Red Bull:
On his 1st lap in the morning Kvyat went off the track and damaged the front wing. But Red Bull had brought only one front wing to Jerez so they didn't have a new one to bolt on the car. New one should be arriving on track later today or tomorrow morning.

There are few jokes that include this camouflage livery:
1. They are testing new invisible paint on the front wing so that nobody can see what they are testing
2. Because of camouflage mechanic with spare front wing couldn't find the car to bolt it on.

My two cents on the last pictures:
- Mercedes: Nearly identical, classical silver bolt.
- Sauber: Boring and way worse than their liveries of the last years and Nasr's GP2 livery.
- Ferrari: Boring because not new.
- Toro Rosso: Not new, but at least appealing.
- Red Bull: I honestly like it in a very strange way, but it's certainly sure they won't use it due to problem with the readability of the logos. Looks like RB teamed up with the guys that are disguising the new Puma boots lately.
- Renault: Not new either, but black and gold is always a great combo.

So in total: Slightly disappointed with the design of the cars so far. Huge hopes the new McLaren livery will be good.
