Football Manager Series

Official tour of the game being broadcast now, with Miles and with Jarrod Bowen.

In their test game, Jarrod has Real Madrid interested in him, and even Jarrod almost laughs out loud.

With regards to the FIFA license, and international management.

First, it's really a shame how they went about to communicate about it, announcing international management won't be available in a Korean interview.

I love international management, I love pairing it with a club save from a small country to try and make the country a football superpower at both club and international levels. I love the youth tournaments in international football, and managing the Olympics and all of that.

The best thing about them getting the fifa license is that for an ROI sake, they will have to invest to make the international management better. Training, player groups, maybe some sort of recruitment for dual nationals, maybe the match engine is a bit different. We have generally seen more simplistic tactics work better in international football, because you don't have as much time together. Would love to see national rivalries be larger. Maybe an international manager can give some instructions/goals to certain players for when they are in their club. Maybe you can influence them to request transfers if they aren't getting too much playing time at their club etc...

Why on earth are they watching the highlights in fast forward, are they stupid?! I thought the whole point of this was to see it

Key highlights as well.

I'm really struggling with how skatey the animations are. It shouldn't matter but it does.

Just spotted Liverpool beating United 5-0 in the "latest scores" view, good to see it's realistic...

Will the FIFA Youth World Cups (U20 as exp) be part of the international management, or only the senior tournament ?

Makes me wonder if they're doing it to hide things..

Tons of alpha code reviews out now on YouTube, but nobody talking about whether gegenpressing is still way too effective, whether AI managers do better squad building, how unique AI manager tactics are now that you can build with/without ball tactics, etc... only "wow the graphics are good".

To be honest, those things takes time to test. I will keep an eye out on https://fm-arena.com/ for tactics/attribute testing.

For AI Squad Management, it's much easier. Just holiday 2-3 seasons. Takes about 10-15 mins. And then if you see average age of all teams increasing from something like 25 to 28-29, then you know it's still broken.

How about being positive?

Saw Clayts video and he was able to get Harry Kane to Manchester United on a Free Transfer. Not sure how I feel about that one. Doesn't make sense that the AI would let Kane leave for a Free Transfer.

Asked on Reddit if we have any answers to those "big questions" I mentioned earlier yet.

Sadly, the vast majority of the replies are "you know what you're getting and if you don't like it don't buy the game", which is insane to me when you're presenting well-known constructive criticism and hoping for at least a little improvement.

However, this reply was much more helpful, though it doesn't sound like good news.

Best clip I've seen showing the impact of the new tactics in the match engine so far - though it's only 1-2 minutes of footage...

6:40 in this video (I've linked to the timestamp in the link below):

What I particularly like is that it clearly works, but he loses, which makes it seem like all-out-defence isn't overpowered.

Graphic files for FM26 have already been released.
So will upload these later.

However 3D kits don't work obviously, as new engine.
License pack should be uploaded within 24 hours of release, so will do this as soon as available.

The only review I've seen so far that mentions any negatives.

He ends by saying it feels like a big step back in depth and immersion. Ouch.

That feels a little harsh, but then it feels like every other reviewer is keeping things positive because SI have said "it's alpha right now"...

...but how is it an alpha with a month until release?

The downsides he covers in short:
  • Pass maps and heat maps have gone (WHAT?!)
  • Transfer deadline day has gone (which I loved)
  • Live cup draws have gone
  • No more multi-friendly options, e.g. leagues, cups or tours
  • Friendlies are arranged magically and you can't stop that from happening
  • You can't click on a training day and easily change the week's training now
  • A lot of the game is uncustomisable (which was the whole point of the tile system) e.g. player profiles can't be changed to have pros/cons on the first tab
  • FPS issues even on hardware far above the minimum requirements
  • Randomly disappearing UI elements
  • Appalling regen faces

I am still reserving judgement till I play the game Friday.
But it seems that they have removed a lot of content from the game and things are starting to get dumped down to be more accessible.

In this showcase video, he (lollujo) obviously used the infamous 4-2-3-1 gegenpress (auto-pick all incl. formations, players and roles) and it didn't work really well.. Maybe they did fix the flaws of previous FMs regarding specific tactic exploits? Hope so!

Linked the timestamp for his POV on this:

Pass maps gone is almost a red line for me. A pink line maybe.

When I played fm 24. I spent 2 hours analysing Chelsea's pass map, especially for key players and successfully managed to shut down those players using opponent and individual instructions. And work out gaps in opponent covering. I was also able to deduce their entire patterns of play that led to goals and shut that down too. (After reading a guide on how to use pass maps properly on reddit!)

I literally loved how hours of work won me the game with the mechanism clear to see during the match.

Losing that is just beyond belief.

Now we're talking - something new from real-life transfer deals (and also slightly terrifying):
