Football Manager 2009

To be honest i barely used Cahill since he was injured for most of the season. When he was fit i used him "in the hole" just after and in between both forwards...
He wasn't that important for my team than he is IRL Everton...i used my Paraguayan midfielder there mostly (i can't remember his name, i think he's now playing in Brazil, but he used to be with Newcastle as a very young player).
Oh and i forgot to mention one loahen n player (when playing FM i use a lot of on loan players) which was very usefull for me: Pierre Womé...
I had quite a bit of luck because Yobo, Yakubu and Womé were all three injured for a short period when the African championship started...they where out for a couple of days or one week and could play shortly afterwards...it was also in that period that i had to play the big four...if i hadn't had that stroke of luck i would never have won the league.
Oh and to be honest apart from a promotion with Wigan Athletic, that is the only time i've won silverware in FM or before that CM. That game with Wigan is the most memorable i've ever had. When they were promoted i bought players like Skoko, Chimbonda, Ryan Taylor and irl Wigan bought exactly the same players...that was weird...since then i have a soft spot for Wigan.

alright m8...
ure right about cahill, hes injuried more than 50% of the time now for me, strangly enough, in my last fm2008 season, i remember he played constantly the entire season, no major injuries, just some small ones like flu.

btw, i miracly beated valencia in the UEFA quarter finals!! 0x0 at home and 0x1 away player 100% defense and scoring on bautifull a counter atack with yakubu(remebered me so much of my fifa09 playing style  )
but now comes the problem, ill face arsenal in the semi finals, and theyr totally owining me in the season, lost 3x0 at emirates and lost 4x2 at home :( so, does any of u have any tips for me on how to stop adebayor, van persie and fabregas? theyre just monsters! any tips will be appreciated! im pretty confident that if i beat them i have a big change to win this cup, the other semi final is hamburg x benfica, so a lot easier than arsenal.

brunnoce, i seem to remember i played rather gungho against the big clubs...i played 4-3-3 with long balls and it worked...but of course you also know that tactics aren't the only factor...i don't know what you do with training, which players yu got in your squad...i remember that De Guzman was very, very good at Free Kick and long distance shots...he was my most important player...i also had Andy Johnson which was a key player for me...in fact both Anichebe and Johnson were more important for me than Yakubu.
My midfield consisted of two attacking side midfielders (Pienaar and Arteta) and one more defensive player in the centre (mostly De Guzman but my elusive Paraguayan player could play there when De Guzman was injured or tired).
Pierre Womé was also a key factor in those matches and that as a very attacking side back (Baines being more defensive orientated).

But you know as well as i do that copying formations or playing styles does not work in FM...anyway, i wish you much luck...

i just lost a friendly cup againts porto as arsenal on penalties. i have made two new signings to bolster my midfield, plus real madrid are after toure, i will only sell him if they give me Ramos :P

i have only 15m left for transfers and i will leave it has that till the end of the season to buy more players. i got loads on my shortlist and have spent lots of time compiling my shortlist and setting up the training sessions for my players

Which I could bloody play this game. Uninstalled though now and I've had to resort to FMH 09 to keep me barely alive. Like Tim, I'd love ideas on how to optimize the performance of FM 09, as 08 worked fine on normal settings, high resolution and a fair amount of detail, yet this is slow and unresponsive on the lowest settings (from the ones I could find) and even when running just the Premiership. Cheers either way.

thanx m8,
i think ill have to play the usual "tackle, kick and pray" style
both games i lost i was pressing them, and this time i think ill go with a diferent approach and stay back waiting for them in my pitch, cause seems they have so much good passing that u just cant pressure as they will pass around your defenders and with that pressure ull leave a lot of gaps in your defense cause ill loose the defense shape...
lets see what happens.. i hope i can win this cup, i never won anything with everton and i really wish to give them a silverware.
at least this time im sure i wont be fired, so i can do some trasnfers to strengthen my team for the next season... this first season i played with budget off, so no trasnfers in the begining..
trasnfer spoiler, not so much, but its mainly to gerd:
in the winter window i sold lescott to chelsea for 11m and bought in Sall from st.etienne, for 1.6m, a real bargain, hes a great marker, yyoung and cheap...i thougght he would have personal problems of not beeing professional enough like in real life, but my report says the oposite of this.. i was also gonna bring Dante(great player, u know him) from standard, but seems ur belgian m8s are really dificult sellers, thats why everton must have paied 15m on fellaini...they want 12m for dante!?!!? i think ill pay since he will fit lescott's place perfectly, well i was gonna pay 12m on the winter trasnfer but he couldnt get a work permit, now he got his belgian citzenship, so he is my priority trasnfer for 09-10

Btw CB, u beeing a FM gfx guru, heard anything of editing player apperances or kits shorts and socks colors???

Proxi, I had a look HERE, and if you actually read the posts there are some good tips to improve computer performance :TU:. It did help make my FM run a little bit smoother too.

To brunnoce.

i'm not sure if the real life Dante is good enough to play with Everton. He has played in Lille but he wasn't exactly a big success there. I've never heard of that St-Etienne player. Is he in PES, becaus i'm actually playing at St-Etienne for the moment in my BAL carreer

Cheers man. I have actually visited that topic previously and tried most of the suggestions, however I'm reinstalling the game now to try the lower resolution AND windowed mode combo, can't believe I didn't try that one earlier. Thanks

yeahp, he is, he is a tall black player , he is suspended until december (4 month ban) because of irregularities in his contract: http://www.goal.com/EN/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=911631

Also, if u play fifa, he is first team CB for etienne there.

about dante, i dont know him that well in real life, just wacthed the games against everton, and i thought he was very good, so i checked him out in the game and he has good/great numbers to play as my defensive full back on the left, where lescott played... but so, u think he wont improve anymore? do u have any other player to suggest for this position? i would rather a high marking player, since this player barely attacks in my tatic...

oh one last question, do u think defour would succed in my team?

np tim ;)

CB im having problems with the backgrounds

The Logos install fine and are working but the backgrounds come up with this error on loading

Thanks for these packs btw the logos look great and the league, cup and stadium backgrounds even better :))

So there's now no way to get FM09 running windowed if your screen resolution is 1024x768? :((.

The --small_screen --windowed shortcut code doesn't work. It always says FM.exe has to shut down as soon as you start it if you use that code.

Brunnoce,

I'm not so sure about a left back. IRL i find Sebastien Poccognoli a rather promising left back. He plays with AZ67. He has good crossing abilities and has a good free kick IRL...i don't know about the game.
About Steven Defour: until recent i think he was the most promising Belgian player (now it is 17 year old Eden Hazard who plays for Lille), but in the European matches against Liverpool and Everton he disappointed me a litle bit...i think he is too small and too frail to become an international top player. In FM08 he was very, very good. I also played an Italian game with Atalanta and he played for Parma...he was nominnated best player of the Serie A. I think i would go foor Modric (but he's expensive) or you could partner Fellaini with Jan Vertongen from Ajax...in our national side they are forming a very promising partnership in CMF...but if i remember well you are Brazilian and your standards must be much higher than what Belgian players can do. Oh , maybe you should try Ezequiel Lavezzi as AMF...he's very good in FM09...but he's Argentinian and you are from Brazil...so i'm not sure if you want to buy him...

Well pull my plonker and embrace the mace! I put the laptop resolution down to 1024x768, and used that code however with only one dash ( - ) before each command, not two. We have eruption! I don't mind having to switch the laptop resolution each time I play the game. Not one bit.

Yeah that's the error I've now fixed in the re-uploaded files, take a look at my original post and I've updated the links from 2am-4am last night (and on my way back to bed I got my foot caught in the bedcovers and brained myself on the wall, got a cracking headache this morning, the stuff I fucking do for Evo-Web).

Gerd,
dont worry m8, im loving fellaini atm(both in real life and in FM, oh in Fifa too! ;) thats why i want another belgian in my team...
Defour did play really well imho in the 2nd leg against everton, he was quite dominating in the midfield, actually i think i like the hole liege team  maybe its because they beaten us, and i got the feeling thye quite good, but ill see about defour, the main problem i think , is that liege will ask a fortune to sell him..i could get good players for 5m, and im sure they will ask above 10m for him.... but i think he would be the perfect substitute for Cahill, when the assie go injuried.

also the problem in buying south american players is the work permit, and most importantly, ive never bought a brazilian player(young talents) in FM that has adapted to the premiership style, in my last fm08 season i got guilherme from cruzeiro, he was a huge disapointment, only 9 goals in 30+ macthes and about 5 or 6 assists...nevertheless i sold him to espanoyl, where he started destroing the spannish league, he was scoring almost a goal per game...
i also bought lavezzi and di maria, and both dissapointed me.. so now im trying to bring more fisical or more tatical dicipline players, as thats everton and subsquently the EPL style...thats why im looking for more belgians, and northen european players...

So that code works for you in 1024x768 resolution?!!?!? :((

I've heard nothing on the database side of things mate, sorry. :(

i c...
Why cant SI say something, ive tried many times to ask this in their main forum..no answer...
i know theyre very busy with the activaction issues..but it would take like 5 sec to answer me... just say: "no, u cant edit that" or "wait for the new editor"

I don't know if you guys have installed the old LNC fixes yet but in-case you haven't, here's one I've downloaded from SortItOutSI.net and updated a bit.

What it does is fix the competition names (and some team names) - so for example, "Premier Division" becomes the Premier League, "EURO Cup" becomes the UEFA Champions League, etc... There's tons of fixes in there, it's mental. Credit to the guys at SortItOutSI.net for the job they do.

I haven't changed the name of the UEFA Cup to UEFA Europa League yet because A) it doesn't apply until 2009/2010 and B) it's a rubbish name; should you want to do that yourself just extract the files and then open the "fake.lnc" in both folders in Notepad, it's easy enough!

To install you just extract it to your Football Manager 2009 installation folder, see the readme for more info if you need it.

All sorted ta

I have 1 bug bare though

Is there any way to keep a default screen unless you click on the leagues ect?

Every time i click on the CCC it holds that screen for everything else (same for the other leagues) like squad, tactics ect ect

Edit: the Premiership background don't work because you have no space in English premierleaguealt in the xml and you do in the file name

No unfortunately, that's the way the game works. It doesn't "switch off" until you click on something else with a background to swap it with. :(

:BORED: :CURSE:

Good job you know how to fix it, for everyone else I'll re-RE-upload them all now...
