if he loves him so much, I cant get why he just kept the number for himself. his legendary idol just came by his side for a short term but he still decides to keep it as if he'll never get it back. it is just a no brainer in fact.
 
well maybe Henry didn´t wanted to take it? :) i´m sure he has 12 for all France matches in his past..

and to be honest new number means fans will buy more new kits..

remember CR9, CR7..it´s like two CR for Madrid came to club in terms of selling shirts...
 
according to all the stories on the net walcott's said not to have been willing to give him the number from the very beginning. but yeah, you're right about that henry used to wear no 12 for nt and I guess he didn't make it a big deal.

I think this is the matter of squad registration. In my opinion you can't change your number in the middle of the season (I'm basing on Football Manager series and real life :D). So, it doesn't matter if he wanted to give Titi 14 on the shirt or not, but simply he couldn't do it because of the regulations. Not only it is the matter of Henry and Walcott, but also Scholes and Young. Scholesy although, took his number from the beginnings of his career at Old Trafford.
 
That was just a joke of Walcott about the number.

Btw. Thierry wanted to get the number 12 when he joined Arsenal for the
first time but it was already given to Christopher Wreh, so the number
14 became his famous number in clubs, he still used the 12 for the national
team. Now he joined Arsenal again and this time he got the number 12 :)
