FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

Great nerve in the match but oh my GOD how destructive Brazil was. I only see joga bonito as a faint memory...

The referee was really poor too, but he just made a lot of bad calls both ways so I don't suspect any favourism.

Really hope Germany crush Brazil. Can't stand this team and I dislike Scolari the most.

:( Gutted for los Cafeteros, but in all fairness they were quite poor today. It seems that James was indeed the soul of this team, well played Felipão.

PS: James is the 1st South-American (non Brazilian or Argentinian) to score more than 5 goals in a WC. The boy deserves the golden ball.

What could have been had Radamel Falcao been fit.

I expect the Germans to make this much more interesting. Seems like the other teams Brazil played fell prey to their own nerves and impatience. Can't see the Germans be affected by that nearly as much.

I can`t remember the last time seeing a GK get a yellow + Penalty. It might be a new rule hopefully...I heard that Silva is suspended for the next match? bummer .

You know there is a WC Golden ball, right?

 damn man totally forgot about it haha oh well I hope he does get golden boot if a player doesn't explode in semi finale and finale he might get golden ball too, but I think someone who win WC will win that too!

I think Germany will dispose of this Brazil team. Can't quite believe they've stumbled into the semis. They're not that good. Must be the 12th man.

Neymar has a broken a vertebra he`s out of the Cup...:CONFUSE:

He s an annoying kid who pulled some shit again today but that charge on him should've seen a straight red. You don't wish that kind of injury upon anyone. Hope he recovers ok.

Neymar and Silva out...HUGE blow for Brazil...

Germany can relax a little bit more imo.

I think Dante could replace Silva easily ! Now, Williams can do they job on the wing. I think Brasil will play more as a unit. I wonder can Hulk play upfront and rid out of that diving talentless Fred. :)

I have not been here that much so I'm gonna talk about a bunch of topics together, sorry if its a mess.

This Germany run reminds me a lot of Spain in 2010, people say they are not that good, they are not that good, they are not that good, until everybody realize they are that good. At least compared to others.
I think the reason we are seeing a lot of people, both here and overall on the internet, suggesting fixes to this Germany team is because they have options. How do you fix Fred in Brazil? Jô?
Lets just appreciate this wonderful generation they have, its not like it would be unfair if they win it all, actually quite the opposite it would suck if Lahm, Bastian and company never lift a world cup.
Also you can see they are enjoying brazilian lands a lot, I've been where they are staying a year ago and its a beautiful/simple place, I already like this team just because of their social media stuff, they have that championship 'smell'.
Hummels been my fantasy MVP! Scored 42pts with him today :SMUG:

Spent a lot of time writing about Germany, even forgot what else I was going to talk about. I'll try to be shorter as well.

Another thing I'm hearing a lot is the stretch the defense argument, I already hate this in the NBA now they are bringing it too football!
Football defenses are often set, you can't stretch them there, unless they are stupid defenders, you only stretch on a open field, on counter-attacks mostly.
The reason I absolute hate this trend, is people argue that good players should play on opposite sides of the other. Individual talent is often on the wings, and now they are playing further and further from each other, like Valbuena & Griezmann today and some others I can't remember.
Some of the best stuff I've seen on this world cup was these talented players coming close to each other, like Cuadrado & James versus Uruguay and De Bruyne & Hazard versus USA.
I hope Belgium does that tomorrow, whenever one of those two looked for the other something good happened. Let the stretch happen on counter attacks.

edit: I'm not talking about anyone here with the stretch trend, its something I'm reading on match reviews by tactical experts.

ESPN Deportes saying Neymar has 2 month out the most...he could do light training in a few weeks... Whose his surgeon 'Transcendence!'

Sad to hear about Neymar. What will Brazil do now?

@sauce
I'm quite sure you're missing the point of this whole "stretch" thing. The point of stretching the defense is to create some space in the middle of the park for the "number 10's" to work in. Sometimes you want to do the opposite but that generally happens regardless so it's really no point in planning to congest the centre. Centre backs are generally so physically superior attackers so it's really no point in pumping crosses from afar, which leaves stretching and through balls against established defences. The other point isn't that you're supposed to keep the talented players apart, the key is to have talent in all advanced positions and create triangles on the pitch.

I think I speak on behalf of everyone, even as Argentinian, when I say nobody wanted this to happen. Neymar is much needed in this sort of important Tournaments. We already "lost" so many stars and key players (Iniesta, Touré, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pirlo, Rooney, etc) for different reasons, it's sad to imagine a final between any NT (I hope one of them is Argentina though) against Brazil without Neymar. I'll be so hard for Brazil to even get there now (without him and Thiago Silva) go figure winning it.

Brazil in the finals without Neymar would sad to watch.

Such a pity.

One positive aspect Brasil can profit from Neymar´s loss.
they are not playing as favorites against Germany(maybe even if Neymar would be on the field), they have already made it to the semis, the fear of being prematurely disqualified is long gone.
Summing all of this an eventual loss against Germany would be better digested by the supporters, media, etc.
Brasil for the first time in this World Cup will play weightless, no pressure on its shoulders.
a factor to consider.

Here in Brasil it´s like someone have died, funeral mood.

Wait what!? So I think I accidentally got what the stretch trend is about. I just needed one more player on the equation?
Lets use the same example I did before then, basically if De Bruyne has the ball, Hazard and maybe Mertens should both give him a pass option at the same time but on opposite sides?
If that's what the trend is about I definitely agree is good.

But the word 'stretch' is just terrible, it makes me think of Cavani going wide open on a wing while the middle action happens. In theory this is a good idea, but most center backs would call a switch to the side back that's set there, that's the whole point of the defensive line, it's zone covering. To me this feels like writers trying to find fancier terms on a simple game.

The angles for passing options are what football is about, but it is quite basic movement compared to NFL/NBA movement, most of these young tactical analysts love these american sports and I still feel they see too much where there is nothing to see. Let me have my simple, but beautiful, sport.
