I think his great that the US are getting the taste for football. They could bring great things to the game in the future. Seeing the Sounders or Timbers fans cheering all year for their local teams, instead of rooting for some English team is great for the game.

The soccer/football debate is just silliness, since were the British (although the higher classes) who coin the term. My only bug is when they try to force the term soccer outside the US, in a classic Americanisation of something that belongs to everyone (Japan for example calls the sport “sakka” (Soccer) despite that don't play any other type of football professionally). Inside the US (or Canada, Australia or even Ireland and Northern Ireland) or any other country that have their own type of football its fine by me .

@Damjan: The greatest thing so far has been Coach Vahid trusting the "locals" and him giving them more playtime. His predecessor relied so much on the immigrants that he ended completely righting the locals off.

Djabou, Halliche, Slimani and Belkalem are finally getting more exposure. That's huge for us and them. So happy to see my fellow country men playing so well. Hope that'll boost their market reputation, some of them should be playing for better teams.

Whoa. I just check the stats of GER-USA I find out that Kyle Beckerman played after elbowed Meireles in the face in the previous game. I understand that the ref may not see the incident. But the video was there. FIFA punished Suárez, but could get a 1-match ban on him? Ridiculous.

Not saying you are wrong, but another way to look at it was that Meireles was holding onto Beckerman's arm, and Beckerman simply pulled his arm free and caught him in the chin.

I am surprised the referee let Beckerman get away with so much fouling and shirt pulling today though.
