FIFA World Cup 2026 - Discussion Thread

Has this match been scripted or something? Maybe FIFA have decided to dabble in the world of sports entertainment. Looking forward to a Konsa moonsault.

whats the point of spending money if match ends early
 
I don't ever recall seeing any ref get cramp until this tournament.

Yeah, for what it's worth. I was fairly entertained watching this match. And as a spectator, that's all that matters tbh. I wasted my time and money to watch a match, what's the point if I'm not entertained.

Kinda feeling sad now that the world cup is ending. World cup seasons are always my favourites. Also feels surreal that 2006 is 20 years back. The first world cup I watched was 2002 but 2006 was the first one where I started watching seriously. Good times.

Final should be good. I'll be cheering for Spain to win it.
 
I'm very shocked as well. I don't believe this meaningless World Cup Bronze Final ends up like it's watching the "real" World Cup Final.

10 goals in just 1 game. This was all despite England being 4-0 up in the 1st half without Kane and Bellingham and against France still with their strongest attacking lineup.

For the record, the Austria vs Switzerland in 1954 World Cup QF still holds the record as the most goals in just 1 game with 12 goals (Austria won 7-5).

Mbappe is now the World Cup's all-time goalscorer, and he already did that after 3 World Cups. I think he can break more record with France if he will play in 2030 and (maybe) 2034.

But anyways, congratulations to both teams for having good attacking football, especially England. Their best World Cup finish since 1966.

Regarding the World Cup final, the bookies have made Spain favourite for this game vs Argentina. They were also the pre-tournament favourite to win the whole thing. They have so far only conceded 1 goal in the tournament and even made France's attacks completely toothless with solid defence and midfield. I'm extremely worried about Argentina since they can still make certain games more interesting to watch even if they weren't playing their best game at all, especially the games against Egypt and England, and the fact Lionel Messi can produce some stellar performance just as he did in early stages of the World Cup, as well as the semifinal. For me, I wanted Spain to beat Argentina by only just 1 goal affair after 120 minutes. If it goes to penalties, it will be difficult for Spain as they have bad record when it comes to penalty shootout in the World Cup, while Argentina won the last World Cup with 2 penalty shootout wins.
 
I suppose the only benefit to this game is that both sides have nothing to lose and it ends up as a highly entertaining affair, where defending seems entirely optional. I don't think there's much that either side can really read into from the game, if this had been the final it would have been a totally different and less entertaining game; These big finals are always a complete anti climax with teams just not wanting to lose rather than win.

As for tonight, I don't really mind who wins. Spain are a great team, but I also think the continued meltdown if Argentina won would be hilarious.
 
I think we need to give pills to coach and players before starting a match that will inhibit their fear of loosing. That we we will get batshit crazy matches.
