Yeah maybe I need to switch to legacy.

But issue seems to be twofold. AI teammates standing around doing nothing and CPU tactics almost always being possession/slow build up. Which leads to horrible tiki taka where they eventually exploit space (which is everywhere). Even on attacking and ultra attacking if you look at the default tactics they barely change.

My best game was against Rennes who have attacking tactics of balanced/balanced. Felt much more realistic.

It's a shame because the changes after the first beta were promising.

Not sure , I don't have an issue with the defending. It miles better than FIFA 21 regarding tracking of runs. I switched between fifa 21 and PES 21 and PES is much easier to defend (except when the ai needs to score obviously )but after 22 I feel no need to switch to anything else ..let's hope EA don't fuck it up

I think it's just tactics.

Played as Everton against Leeds (who have balanced attacking tactics) and it was fine.

I wish that they actually cared about making each teams custom tactics realistic.

So my trail ended right in time with the last match, Juve vs. Alkmaar. The commentator just made it to „…final whi“! *plop* back to the UI.
if the vanilla on disc is similar, there is reason for me to dive deeper. I enjoyed my 10 hours with the game.

An issue with CPU AI crosses in the game that I have seen already, even though we should be grateful.......is that the spin showing on the ball is the wrong way around. Put it into replay mode when a CPU player has just crossed it and watch the ball spin.

It either shows no sidespin at all but the ball still slightly curves in flight in the correct curved direction, or the ball has some slight side spin, but the side spin applied and ball flight is the opposite to what it should be doing considering the way the ball was kicked.

Its bizarre. The above is mainly affecting high crosses aimed for players heads, and on each occasion the ball depicts backspin always...........however if its a low cross by the CPU AI the ball mostly has the correct side spin on it and it curves in flight the correct way.

Maybe just an oversight and they have managed to get the CPU AI to do crosses much more regularly but without them using the proper physics.

Its strange being as the ball physics otherwise are bordering on sensational.

Yeah it’s where I am, PES feels so archaic and basic compared now.

Mikhail, please don't take any offence, as we all have different likes, but are you referring to regular PES 21 on console ?

Because I've just played an hour of 21 with gameplay patches and Virtua Reds patch and honestly, the gameplay can be so organic and exciting compared to Fifa 22.

Every attack feels different and it is providing that feeling PES5 etc gives me. Its like a mix of tension, satisfaction and joy. Putting organic attacking moves together is great. But I'm going to go down and finish my last hour of the trial. I've decided to play it and just try to win and play freely without judging it to see if I can find what others are finding in it.

Have you posted what setting you use pal? I would like to try them .

Edit* So I just reset everything to vanilla. Put speed to normal and controls to semi, classic attributes and everything else off.

Playing a champions league and really enjoying it. Decided just to go with the pace of the game and play it like I play pro. Just play what’s happening and not judging animation or movement etc. It’s been really enjoyable. 👍🏻 Each attack all of a sudden seems organic too.
Maybe because I’m playing it for once and not analyzing everything .

This has nothing to do with the last years and this is definitely a game changer. I started a career and played on Legendary, normal speed and I got trashed at the beginning. Honestly the passing and the shooting is sometimes too much. I'm not sure if it's possible to defend but the best thing is if you are on attack. It's hard to break the defence down but once you do it's an amazing feeling. The game has some problems too as for example the defensive line pushing back too far but overall that's the best FIFA (against the AI) since a long long time. I hope they won't kill it with the next patches but I'm not sure about that. Tonight I'll play some more, of course I preordered the Ultimate Edition in July.

I'm very happy to see that I'm not the only one who really appreciate this FIFA. Like you, I don't want that EA kill the game with the hunger of FUT fanboy who want a fast game with shitty GK. Please EA don't touche this game because offline players love it so much. I think since FIFA 14, a nextgen FIFA game haven't made a such big step in the good direction.

I am really enjoying the game, but sometimes at the edge of a nervous breakdown when i see players moving fast or turning around with no inertia or physics.

Mostly i am pissed off cause this is a great looking game much better than any other in terms of gameplay.

I have a penalty yesterday. I was so surprised that i didn't score🤭! Damned it!

in my 10 hours i got awarded 3 penalties (scored 2 of them) and caused 2 against my team (both went in). so penalties i get enough... or at least its not a problem to me. i want more fouls to be happening... the situations are here, all the time. players jostle, stumble, limp, poke and what not... its all here: just the ref cant find enough air to make his whistle sound! its like EA is trying to keep a match running no matter what (in these cases: clearly acting against the RULES of football!)!
anyway... right now, i'm not to focused on it too much, as i have plenty of stuff to discover and test (while enjoying a huge part of it)! but this really is a thing that should be easy to fix (or at least loosen a bit). ...thinking FIFA16 ref and foul system here...

edit: what i noticed in 22: refs are a bit broken too, not just the foul/collision system.
for example: the last defender grabs my shirt, no one near us, the striker was all alone on its way to goal, went down and the defender gets away with a yellow card. shoudve been a straight red card...

that is exactly what i was describing above! sad to see its the same animation i had, when your striker goes down. i hope there is more varience coming regading situations like this!

another example: i round the keeper with my agaile striker, the keeper brings down my striker, penalty award, no card given! ^^

edit2: i never mentioned how much fun i get out of a good foul system... FIFA16 is just great in that regard (one of many).
it is such i vital part of the sport, and i do enjoy "playing/toying" with that system in FIFA16. its a lovely risk and reward system that, when it is fairly implemented, is a joy to use!! for me, its not only a tool to get free kicks and penalties... its a game in the game itself sometimes... hope you get me!

I don't think that it will, my son who is 13 and is a FUT player (and the target audience) has not enjoyed it, this is also the case with most of the other FUT players in his group. FUT is EA's cash cow, if that demographic is not happy then EA will make changes to satisfy them, it seems that the game at present is what the development team want to move to but in the end corporate will always win out and I fear that a few patches down the line we will be back to what FIFA 21 was like.

Some more thoughts: overall I'm something between the FUT crowd and Mr. Realistic. I loved PES6 and FIFA 16 and I never tried to find a perfect simulation rather to find a game which I can enjoy.

I also don't like to change the sliders. Why? Because if I win a game afterwards I'm thinking I only won because of the sliders. I know it's stupid but so I'm playing the game always as it is released. My controller settings are "semi" so all my impressions are based on this and I have to say that in attack I never played such a fun game against the AI. I love the diagonal balls and how hard it is to break down the defence. I have so many variation and it seems there is no easy exploit to score.

Defensively it's a difficult one. It's hard to defend but it's also rewarding. It's not as good as in FIFA 16 because the physicality isn't anywhere near so there are almost no fouls. Sometimes I think it's impossible to defend the AI but maybe I'm not good enough yet. We'll see. Another problem is the defensive line and how far they are pushing back. I hope there will be a fix soon. So yeah, I'm pretty optimistic at the moment, can't wait to play some more games tonight and I'm praying that the patches won't destroy the good base.

After so many stadiums for FIFA 16 its hard to play new generic games without possibility of editing game. And also lack of:

- option to have more great European clubs
- option to have stadiums for almost all clubs in game
- option to play EL or UECL in kick-off or tournament (only in CM) - this is really disaster

when you say stadiums... i was scrolling through the list of stadiums last night, while setting up a fixture, and i thought to myself... "gosh, so many stadiums! thats plenty!" it sure is nice to have every single stadium in the game for authenticity, but i'm surely good with the number included. maybe its because where i come from...

I'd love to know if it's more sim-feeling because that was their pure intention this year, or because of the stink myself and others managed to create on the Career Mode beta forum. Certainly tracking-back wasn't there in beta #1, and the defenders were planks of wood in the ground until beta #2.

The reason I'd love to know is - will they simply do as the FUT crowd ask now? Because it's not even just them, it's THE REVIEWERS TOO.

They've genuinely MARKED FIFA DOWN because it's more realistic this year. The same guys who have given PES at least 4/5 for years, because it's "the better sim". I wouldn't give a toss, if there wasn't a real danger that reviews like this influence future gameplay changes.

Eurogamer's review concentrates on the loot boxes: "Morally bankrupt monetisation lets the side down once again."

Can't argue with that being the headline - it should be every responsible gaming website's headline. But even they say "there is little joy to be had playing FIFA 22, but I think that is by design" and compare it to "Gareth Southgate's England". They say it's BORING BECAUSE IT'S REALISTIC.

you are right but we live in times (as it seems), where the audience is writing angry letters to authors so they "have" the story changed or directors of games are requested (with force) to add a character or leave one out... its madness!
i'm not against working with the audience, quite the opposite, but there needs to be a road the company creating a product should stick to. a philosophy!

to end on a positive note: these days, and i get that idea from you guys, i think going seperate ways, FUT and offline Sim, are the ways to go in the future!

I don't understand the vendetta against a realistic football game, i really don't. Real football is very popular because it's very exciting the majority of the time. So a game that mimics it's realism should be well received right?

nobody scores Gran Turismo negatively just because it's realistic, they usually acclaim it for being a masterful representation of driving. However, I think real driving is boring but I can appreciate a game like GT for being a sim. But if I wanted something faster and easier I'd go and play something more casual like Forza.

Of course we only have 2 mainstream choices for football games currently and with the direction the football gaming culture is going in it's likely they are going to be more casual online centered interpretations then ever. If FIFA goes F2P as predicted, how will it be presented?

Will we still have a massive roster of real world teams unlike eFootball or will it just be a FUT lite version leaving a traditional physical FIFA 23 release much like how we still get annual Call of Duty games alongside the F2P Warzone?

After I was bored to the death with those news about €Football, I was thinking to give a try to those FIFA 22 threads with the only purpose to see what's going on, and I can't belive my eyes that people are mostly positive about the game in general, comparing it to FIFA 21. Taking in count that they'll release eFootball just one day before FIFA 22, realistically speaking I can't see that people (the new "crowd") will stay in that thing more than a day knowing that everything in it is shambles... we still don't have any official gameplay there and that's completely shambolic...

exactly! i'll be downloading and installing that other companys latest edition and have a few games. lets see what the fuzz is all about!

One thing i don't agree is that "youth wants Arcade gameplay".
We were all youth, and do we wanted Arcade or Sim-like gameplay at the time?
I think the answer is clear. We all wanted something sim. So i thrust it's more or less the same for youths.
Thrust youths. Some are very young, they don't understand why it's not faster or hard etc. like when we wanted direct play on Football games.
And whatever the sim level of that game, if it was entertaining we continued to play. So some who found it to slow should adapt...
EA needs to think that way : "they will play, and get adapted. No changes needed (we can even make it more realistic with some patchs: they're addict to the game so...)

There's not so much feedbacks talking about it, so let's cross fingers they won't change. They know and saw their notes from the last versions.
And what was the difference : simple, it was a bit less offensive oriented.

Just that complaining people about speed or whatever make much noise and gives us big eyes when we found those tweets, in fact it's a fear.
Now, i'm a bit "blocked" by the mentioned physics/inertia because that's the first thing that make me think about "sim-like" game, and it's not there...
I'll see myself when i'll buy the game. Perhaps plays it for what it is : at least it seems scoring is challenging vs AI. But FIFA to me, i won't resist to play my Divisions online mode as it was the good old time to me. I never made a career, only Cups, and one league with Chelsea when Drogba was in.
I don't know why, but Careers bored me a lot. I couldn't play more than 5 games and quit. It was a bit lifeless the time where i tried it. I don't know why.
Probably some changes since Fifa 18 or 19 (the last i tried Career in fact, and didn't played Online that much for the first time in my FIFA's gamer life)

Just because i loved to play with Drogba, well usually i take small teams, but it was the exception.
Online, i switch a lot, but Juve... Well Piemonte Calcio now was my number one team / until they became 5 stars (when they were just pretty good but not Barca/Real/Bayern level) after it was annoying, as there's isn't as much 5 stars teams so i played always against the same teams.

Well, i played with Totts as i've made 2 friendly tournament with them, with or without Bale i was pretty used to play with them., lots of 4 to 4.5 stars teams to play against, Udinese, also took some "exotic" teams such as Toronto when Giovinco who was a beast was on it, with Altidore.
Now all those teams are completely differents, so i think to take Atalanta or something like this.

A change in the "contain" button more effective? I don't know, i'm just asking. We are just victims, PES has gone, and question is why FIFA developers even spend one day developing anything gameplay related ... you could put tanks in the game and 90% of playes would not care, 9% would embrace it, and 1% would be against it.

its a generation change, like it happens in other areas too, imo!
when i was a kid, fast satisfaction wasnt the main focus (or was it!?)... maybe that has changed in times where everthing seems to be produced towards fast dopamine distribution! small times span of consuming stuff, plenty of rewards for doing so, repeat...

i'm not saying there arent any young guns that love football and are looking for a more sim aproach that takes time... but the majority is probably a new generation, a new crowd, fast pace livin', smartphone in hand to control the world, ain no time for that... !

a learning curve, as i know it, may be something the/a new gen can't or won't handle. times have changed...

Defending hasn't changed a great deal. It is still the case that, when trying to approach the ball-carrier head-on using the "contain" button followed by the "jockey" button, you often run straight past them. Which looks stupid, and feels frustrating.

I try not to use the "contain" button any more - it's almost as useless as the "two-man press" button. You're much better off using the jockey button to very carefully position yourself as close to the ball-carrier as you can, and then you'll either block their pass/shot, or you'll eventually get close enough to use the "standing tackle" button.

There is also a "instant strong standing tackle" button combo this year, along with others. I'm not seeing a huge amount of difference, but... I get the feeling that, especially after using the same old PES-style buttons for years, I have to really make an effort this year to use some of FIFA's modern controls.

Ahaha "Idocraty" lol. Personnally i got some thrust in youth : they "abandoned" Fifa years after year, and critics too. I know some who doesn't play as it's always the same, no joy to score etc.

But what i said is some are still addict to Fifa, even if they didn't played the 2020 and 2021 / They buyed the game day one.
Also, from feedbacks here the game seems and they (i told about everyone here) told that the game is a bit less attack oriented, which is was a bit hard to believe as there's less assistance in Defence and we see it on vids, there were flaws remaining, and i don't want to feel obligated to take a very small team to got challenge.
Of course a bigger one will make easier to create and win. But it should still a bit challenging in the highest difficulty in my opinion. And like you're doing, raise or decrease difficulty regarding your configuration (manual or not)

Perhaps Defense is not a problem because players are well positioned i don't know. I don't think it's because you play manual, as it doesn't change AI : now since it's introduced so since FIFA 08, i don't like manual that much personnally for a lot of reason so... But with friends playing 11V11 on WAP (Wearepes), everyone play on manual, and on 11V11 it's way funnier i admit, some pass completely missed, we have a lot of laugh and fun regarding some stuffs like this. But playing alone an "seriously" Semi or even Assisted if i don't have choice is what i prefers by far, for stats impact especially (i'm a very a "stat related" guy... Well very old shool for that part i admit. Doesn't mean that i can't play manual) whatever : the game should be good with every configuration. Just that i hate randomness, for 3-5 degree missed, doing wrong pass : my finger isn't the one of a robot and the sticks are smalL, but well... That debate FUMA vs the rest has been done a thousand time so, no, please.
Not only a matter of taste, but what we wait about a football game to got fun. I don't have it in every area. Well i didn't really talked about it here, only on WAP a long time ago, let's say it's a bit clearer : but i the pass bar power when it was first introduced, that's another story.

But whatever, i was never a sim, but a balanced game, with a logic in movements in terms of inertia and "what a footballer can do, with the limits of physics", and it was managed by stats. Even with R9 you couldn't do what you wanted, he gotted some week point, like stamina. Hard to do a long run and pass the whole Def with him. He was a "short distance" super player for example.
That's why i still prefers some PES or what i saw in Efootball (no superhuman stuffs in motions/Just bugs. But it's another story) than Fifa.

Defending hasn't changed a great deal. It is still the case that, when trying to approach the ball-carrier head-on using the "contain" button followed by the "jockey" button, you often run straight past them. Which looks stupid, and feels frustrating.

I try not to use the "contain" button any more - it's almost as useless as the "two-man press" button. You're much better off using the jockey button to very carefully position yourself as close to the ball-carrier as you can, and then you'll either block their pass/shot, or you'll eventually get close enough to use the "standing tackle" button.

There is also a "instant strong standing tackle" button combo this year, along with others. I'm not seeing a huge amount of difference, but... I get the feeling that, especially after using the same old PES-style buttons for years, I have to really make an effort this year to use some of FIFA's modern controls.

now that you mention it... i never used the contain button for my player! team mate contain aka second man press i use a lot, in combination with my man at the sticks pressuring the AI!
contain in FIFA is kinda like the homing missle defending from the other game to me! i dont like it, i dont use it.

what i use in defense is the L2 button, where the player stands wide... and i like that you dont need to press the tackle button (X) all the time. when you are in a good position (like in real life) holding L2 is enough to get the ball.

high long balls feel better now, more consistant in speed (fuma). short passes are a blast (pass bar at 65) with fuma (be it regulars, small taps, driven (R2) or my new fav. the "chipped" ones (loading the bar and pressing X again before execution)!
there is so much good minor stuff i always forget about a couple of hours later... i really need to get a stream going where i just talk over the gameplay (so i have a video on youtube to recheck on stuff i said before! )!
