FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

I apreciate the honesty from both EA & Konami (they literally have no single player modes now & pretty much said the same a year ago) as you would hope it could wake some from their slumber and yearly routine of giving them money no matter what, the stockholm syndrome is strong in the yearly sports games market.

I think their business model for single player modes in their sports games currently is: "well, if someone is stupid enough to give us money for this, we'll take it".

I think it is even worse.

They want single-player to disappear so they have new generation of gambling-addicted kids ... like drugs and sports, but if you kill sports --- kids will have only one option.

It's primarily a gateway mode. People buy it (earn some money from them, not a lot but you never say no to money), people get in the game for the mode and there's a non zero chance they'll also try the gambling modes. It's exactly why they invested a lot in the Journey. Why do that if you only care for FUT? To attract young people, get them hooked and then hopefully they'll stick around and enter the world of FUT.

They don't want to kill it, there would be huge backlash (as konami found out and now they have to do a lazy ML port), but they also don't want the opposite happening (people going from fut to the offline modes) so you're pretty much stuck with offline modes that will never be good enough again.

Knuckle Ball Shots

TU #14 introduces the following knuckle ball shot change:

- Increased the likelihood of a knuckle ball shot occurring when requesting a high-powered shot while the ball is 0.67 meters/2.2 feet from the player’s feet.

With this change, our goal is to increase the shot variety seen during gameplay in order to bring more authenticity to the act of shooting. Attributes don't affect whether a knuckle shot will happen, the conditions for it are related to the aforementioned distance and shooting direction. The angle of the shot needs to be forward facing, roughly in the direction that the ball carrier is already looking towards.

Here’s how a knuckle ball shot might look like in game with TU #14:

New Skill Move: Ball Roll Cut 180

A new Skill Move has been added in TU #14:

- Added the new Ball Roll Cut 180 Skill Move that can be performed by players with a 4 or 5 star Skill Move rating.

The Ball Roll Cut 180 is intended to give players more options when moving with the ball in order to generate space in new situations that can potentially fool defenders. It’s another tool that attackers can use to break down defenses while also another consideration for defenders to plan for. Here’s how to perform this Skill Move on the default controls:

Hold L1 (PlayStation controllers) or LB (Xbox controllers) then flick the Right Stick input opposite of the way the ball carrier is facing, then flick it a second time while still holding L1 or LB.

Here’s how the Ball Roll Cut 180 looks in action:

Shot Blocking

TU #14 has two shot blocking changes:

- Significantly reduced the reach of attempted shot blocks by AI controlled players.

- Slightly reduced the reach of attempted shot blocks by human controlled players.

One of our goals for the ever evolving balance between attacking and defending gameplay is for players to put their skills in each category to the test against one another. As a result, we’ve introduced a significant reduction to the reach of shot blocks from AI controlled players in order to help promote a more player controlled approach to shot blocking.

At the same time however, we’ve slightly reduced the reach of shot blocks from human controlled players in order to promote a more open and free flowing shooting experience during matches.

Low Driven Shots

TU #14 introduces the following change to Low Driven Shots:

- Greatly increased the accuracy of low and mid powered Low Driven Shots.

We’ve noticed that Low Driven Shots are a little underused since their accuracy did not always have the same consistency as other shot types, so we’ve adjusted their accuracy in low and mid power scenarios. We are anticipating to see about a 17.5% increase in accuracy for these types of Low Driven Shots when the shot takers are not under any significant pressure. Our intent here is to provide players with an additional goalscoring option in 1v1 and other scenarios.

Here’s a sample of how 100 low powered Low Driven Shots might have looked like before TU #14. Note that the black lines here show potential off target shots, green lines show goals scored in this scenario, and red lines indicate potential saves by the goalkeeper.

Tackling Distance

TU #14 makes the following defensive change:

- Significantly decreased the range required for a defender to attempt a tackle without being requested to do so.

Like with the shot blocking changes, this change is intended to promote a more active and hands on attacker vs defender experience. This change will be largely noticeable in, but not limited to, situations in which attackers take on AI controlled defenders and when defenders are applying Secondary Contain.

Great defending always comes down to several key elements that include the likes of positioning, anticipation, and of course, tackling. With this change, we are looking to put a little more focus on player controlled tackling than before.

I've said it before but I feel it now more than ever after reading that changelist...

This is it - football gaming is dead unless you're a FUT-loving "it's just a game"-shouting ADHD-suffering 20-something. EAFC will be even worse, I honestly think single-player will be canned entirely.

I think you're right. That list was shameful.

I really miss good old days when in this period of the year we were excited about new releases of fifa and pes, short gameplay videos, features, etc.
Now these days are gone. There is no football game that simulates game of football, these are just simple arcade games with licences. Sad.
We're just getting old, mate. :D
UFL recently released some vids with their progress, see if it will rekindle your interest in footie games:

Sad but true mate.

Oldgen football is out of business. No matter what happened on the pitch. Cards lovers(no more football lovers) want fun/speed/ easy goals, skills that the point. No more good defense, good GK, midfield battles.

I'm very scared when FIFA 23 beta will be out! Very scared!

When I watched that video for the first time I thougt that I am in these "modern casinos" where people bet on horse races that already happened somewhere in the world becouse it looks just like that. Ping Pong with football ball. Many football games but no one is simulation.

I planned it too at least in my head : what Efootball has done is the future of all sports games. Unfortunately.
I saw a big career mode in E-Sport Boxing but it's been 3 years, the game seems finished, and not a single release date.
Like if they forgot about it.

What's sad, is that for me doing a Career for example is like having an adventure like a Dark Souls. They seems to forget that even if it's a sports game, there's a part of adventure on it on single offline players mode.

Yes it was always been funnier to play against a friend... Not online, but side to side. But it's also fun to create your own football adventure.
Is that hard to understand? No.

But offline doesn't bring money (except if they create quickly a mode and dumbasses like us as they said brought it) and F2P is appealing for youth who have no idea where the Mr Burns redirect them.

Quick summary
✅ 10 changes
✅ Some respond to community feedback
✅ Others designed to increase goals
✅ Quite a few will reduce AI influence
✅ New Ball Roll Cut skill

When I watched that video for the first time I thougt that I am in these "modern casinos" where people bet on horse races that already happened somewhere in the world becouse it looks just like that. Ping Pong with football ball. Many football games but no one is simulation.
It's still in early development, they are currently ensuring their code works, making sure the ball can get from a to b, and the players have basic functions, etc. From the video, you can see it's not there yet, and they will deal with tweaking the gameplay towards the end. Maybe it will be pingpong-like in the release version, I don't know. What makes me excited is that there is another game to compete with fifa/eafc and efootball.

The "GameChangers" program has been canned, and replaced by the "Creator Network".

You can read and (if necessary) translate the full thread on Twitter.

This says a lot to me, that the people they care about listening to are exclusively YouTubers with the biggest view counts. "Guys, how can we help you get all the views you need? High-scoring games and crrrrrrazy new kits?"

It's over, man.

It`s always great to have new players on the market, fresh ideas, new perspectives... but if they focus on online only then the result will be the same as the competition.
For an example I take what sim racing titles do. They start the sim on one particular engine and work on it through the years, from time to time they release new shaders tot have better graphics but the core is there. So why football companies don`t release one game which will be simulation, update content through the years, release paid dlc every year for simbolic price but keep the core, release patches until you pushed the engine to the limit. I know someone will say that pes and fifa used same engine through 4-5 years but I am sure they haven`t exploit 50-60% of it in those period.

This, so this…

been in love with sim racing now for 15 month. And I see so many similarities to our beloved football games, that are way better handled.
Im reminded a lot, while I race the AI, or join a lobby for multiplayer… that,… ah… it’s going off topic.

If I haven’t found happiness in this new hobby, maybe I’d be moaning more about football games. 🤷‍♂️

The new season 2022-2023 approaching. I am so excited to play again the new mods of FIFA16 and PES21.
The ugly truth is that all the new free to play soccer games are trying to copy the success of FUT.
UFL or efootball or what ever its called, will be very happy with a 5% of FUT earnings.
Cards, coins, ratings, microtransactions for gambling!
What about the dudes who wants to play the real game ha?

Work, kids, family.. haven`t enough time to play online, that`s why racing against ai is my thing. I see that the more sim is popular and it`s online modes are growing the more toxic becomes, just like in football games. I play only rFactor 2, Raceroom and a little good old Assetto Corsa just becouse of this. rF2 and RR have amazing ai and physics, AC for mods. Sadly I can`t say this for any football game, repetitive ai, issues with physics...
