Hello everyone!

What are your thoughts of these 2 games and which ones you enjoy or play more often?

I tried FIFA 23 and was looking forward to the new "HYPE"rmotion only to realize its even worse.. And the series been going downhill (for my taste) ever since.
As for the new EA FC user interface, I despise it with all my heart and uninstall the game on day 1 of buying it, sucks.

So now its a bit of a crossroad here between FIFA 16 or 22. Here are my review of the current state of these two:

FIFA 16FIFA 22
+ No skating issue (biggest deal)- Skating issues (kinda fixable by mods)
+ Still being updated (FIP, Fifa Friends, etc)- Abandoned by big projects. Only low effort conversions and update by modders.
+ Sailor friendly ⛵+ Sailor friendly ⛵
~ Gameplay is finally moddable, albeit limited (attribdb & attribdbgameplay)+ Full EBX modding support (got the whole arsenal for gameplay modding)
- Outdated engine (Ignite)+ New engine (Frostbite)
- Outdated animations (its a 10 year old game afterall)+ More animations (tho this leads to more skating)
- Outdated graphics (bad lighting compared to newer FIFA)+ Modern graphics

About two years ago, when I returned to FIFA 16, I played through roughly 30 consecutive seasons across several career saves using the FIP 16 patch. Eventually, I just got burned out on it. I looked for an alternative and played about three seasons of FIFA 22. For Career Mode, I’d choose FIFA 16; it has solid AI, good unpredictability, proper fouls and penalties, and plenty of midfield play and battles for possession. FIFA 22 offers a fantastic feel when scoring and better ball curl—even if the physics can be odd at times—along with superior net physics and a better set-piece system. However, none of that matters when there is a complete lack of fouls and midfield battles; those two factors are exactly why I gave up on '22 and switched to FIFA 17 instead.

I like both, but after a while , some of the FIFA 16 animations are old and clunky. FIFA 16 is a better vanilla game than FIFA 22 - but FIFA 22 offers way more opportunities in terms of modding

Well said! Is the modding for FIFA 17 active tho? The main man building tools for it has been missing for a few months.

Yes! I've been trying to mod FIFA 16 for the last few days but the animations have really shown its age. It's in similar state of PES 2021 and Football Life, we can't mod hardcoded things unfortunately.

Speaking of Lighting, Day lighting in FIFA 16 is one of the best. Also, other lighting files can be fixed by modding attribdb files. I've already improved clear weather night lighting sets. All about playing with certain values and fine tuning it accordingly. No need to use reshade or anything.

Since the modding tools were released, several interesting modifications for FIFA 17 have appeared—most notably, a mod that increases the size of the ball. There have also been a few individual tweaks to dribbling, defending, and shooting. In terms of gameplay, the only major mod was created by @chojanpineapple he expanded it to include better graphics and, more recently, squad updates, and work is now underway on adding player faces. While the FIFA 17 modding scene isn't particularly bustling, there are a few improvements that make the game better; for me, the larger ball mod is an absolute game-changer.

Ah I see. Will give it a try one more time while tweaking lighting and fx files. So far I only tweak gameplay and camera (mainly Pro camera) so the lack of lighting is very apparent when playing with it.
