FIFA 16 News & Discussion Thread

I don't see the teams playing the same either. I do wish they'd take full advantage of CTT's though, but even then, the teams play with just as much variety. I'm not tooting my own horn for sliders, but with the adjustments I've worked on - I get some pretty fun matches. I may have posted them, but here are 3 videos, each match with variety and played quite realistically - compared to stock FIFA 16 that is.

Any chance you could post them into the sliders thread, Matt? Always happy to try them and see the benefits!

Also, what difficulty do you play on?

I was cutting a video yesterday, left origin on and could see that it was updating FIFA.
Didn´t have time to play, so does anyone know what that update did?

Sure thing, I meant to update the slider section actually. I play on World Class!

Thanks Matt! I'll give them a go tonight.

To update my previous post - I played a game over lunch, Canada v Ireland (me) on World Class, with my own sliders (mainly based around lowering the CPU pass speed so that they make interceptable mistakes occasionally), and there were 10 minute periods in both halves where Canada were doing first-time passes in perfect triangles that I just couldn't get near.

I'll try those new sliders later with Legendary (which I still find cuts down on the wonder-passing), but otherwise, I might have to try and do something with Professional. It's just too frustrating - I don't mind getting beat because my players aren't good enough (and what I love about the game is that I can feel a huge difference between my PL side and my international side in terms of what they're capable of), but I don't get beat because the AI exploits my weaknesses - they just start passing like robots, and the writing is on the wall.

im not going to fill this thread up with complaints i am enjoying it again with my new sliders on legendary BUT

it did make laugh right now I am doing a Newcastle career and was given sunderland at home in the FA cup last 16 they went 1-0 up very nice goal by defoe no complaints about it my mistake i then started to dominate hit the post twice the bar once from a point blank header THEN smashed a pen top corner and mannone saved it ffs no matter what i tried just couldnt score they must have blocked 10 shots too

the 70th min its like the game said sorry you blew your chance bye bye so sunderland do this 30 pass move (no bullcrap) bang goal 2-0 then another on the counter 3-0 the AI on legendary in important cup games are evil you need to score first or your in trouble the game will be ruthless and make lesser teams play like brazil 1970 nevermind barca

The FIFA Team

Basically, EA have again listened to the community and improved those areas of the game that the community feedback indicated was required. By community, I obviously mean FUT players....offline players can eat shit as far as EA are concerned.

I don't see why they just make FIFA online only since that's what they really care about. Maybe then, we might get a game that focuses on the singleplay part of football.

Played with Matt's latest sliders on Professional (with only shot error turned down to 48 for the CPU due to their determination not to score), and as Ireland, I got tonked 3-1. Unfortunately I didn't have time to play another game, but it was really enjoyable - the no-look first-time passing of World Class and Legendary not being present.

Very happy - thank you Matt!

For the first time i am starting to get a little frustrated with this game. Since I scored a wonder goal during a win in my CM, I cannot win a game. At first I thought it was maybe just my QPR team lacking a bit of morale. But I just played two international games and I'm beginning to see a pattern now.

It seems that every time I am 2-0 up it is inevitable that the CPU will get a goal back and I am powerless to stop them. I am beginning to see my players move out of the way of an easy interception and then eventually it leads to a goal because it may come from a resulting corner or something. Then, when it goes to 2-2 or 3-2 to the CPU my passes start finding players again, we score, but then the CPU starts turning it on again and we can't pass and then the last minute the CPU scores the winner.

I never wanted to say there was scripting in this but I am seeing it more and more. It's a pain because there are games where I am winning 2-0 but I just cannot get that third goal because of the woodwork or my players suddenly cannot find the target from easy position. I will defend really well but as I said before, eventually my player will move the wrong way and it will lead to a goal.

It's as if the CPU got fed up with my wonder goal and now it's pay back.

I'm playing on WC but don't want to drop down to P because it is too easy for me. I also reset all the sliders which, to begin with, I enjoyed better but now the scripting is annoying me. :(

People have disagreed (including yourself!) and it's all about opinions, but my firm opinion is that you can't get a fair game out of World Class - even Legendary is better, in my experience, because the AI seems to focus on being overpowered in different areas (World Class = overpowered passing everywhere, Legendary = overpowered passing in the final third and refusing to shoot until a goal is all-but-guaranteed).

I'm really surprised at how I got beat last night on Professional with Matt's latest sliders, but then A) there's been gameplay updates since the last time I tried it, I reckon, and B) I've not been playing the game every day, so maybe it'd be too easy for you... Worth a shot, though, maybe?

Heh yeh I know I've been disagreeing but as I said it seems since I scored the wonder goal (on the video thread) I've annoyed every team in the Championship and the National team's too because now they all want to beat me big time.

I will try it on P and L to see if it makes a difference. :)

Interesting! I've never had anyone try them on Pro, so that's very interesting. My last go at Pro was when 1.05 (final patch) came out, and we quickly dismissed it because of how easy it was to burst past players. This most recent set is based on testing WC only, so it's good to know Pro may work as well. I'll have to give it another look. Thanks for testing!

Interesting, I played WC yesterday and had some really great games (Matts final). I did see a bit of ping pong passes. Ive tried a bunch of configurations on Pro but always found at the end either the AI wouldnt attack or would just stand there on defense. Ill give them a try tonight

Iv noticed when playing on professional, the difference between low medium top teams is a lot more obvious, lesser teams leave more gaps in the midfield whilst the top sides u don't have that much time on the ball and they cover the holes better, still enjoying this game a lot

the problem with professional even with a +2 speed and acceleration advantage for the AI is that its just too easy to dribble through. I have just finished a season with Sampdoria on WC and finished 4th from bottom with my sliders..Now I have slightly adjusted my sliders again and stepped up to legendary, it feels tougher to score but the AI in not as direct as WC and it feel more balanced.. sometimes WC feels more difficult. Currently playing the Euros and then if I don't get sacked from Sampdoria will continue my career of legendary

I use Matt's sliders on Professional but on NORMAL speed to hurry me up a little in possession. I also make the following adjustments to give a little more inertia...

Hum CPU
Speed 52 53
Acc 46 46

I also one of those who find the lightning, inhuman reactions, and changes of direction, from the CPU players on WC really annoying

I think personal experience is everything - I can't play the game every day so I'm not a superstar, and though I used to find Professional too easy, I've realised that it's probably because I was playing as Liverpool (primarily because I half-support them, but also to see all the Premier League stadia in their glory and not get bored of seeing the same stadium every week).

I played some more games last night, and won against Everton 1-0, but comfortably, which concerned me. Then, back to the international games, as Ireland (against France), it was a different game (in a way that I really don't believe you get to see on World Class and Legendary) - they steamrollered me, and it felt right.

Then, back to Liverpool, and against West Ham, it was a bit too comfortable again - so I gave them a slight speed advantage, less first touch error, less pass error and less shot error, and although I still won, it involved a little more work.

It works for me - but it'll be different for everybody!

For the first time in a while, I cared enough to look at my remaining fixtures and figure out where I can finish. I'm fourth, behind Man Utd (two points ahead of me) with Tottenham and Man City behind me (with two points less). My next two games are against Tottenham... Then Man City...!

The last five games are against teams in the bottom half. I'm excited to see what happens (although I can't stop Chelsea, who are top by 10 points - guess EA didn't see that one coming)...

The game, as a whole, I absolutely love - I just wish that it was better tactically, defensively, and that the AI was more "I" and less "Burnley become Barcelona" (on the higher difficulties).

I will give professional a go, away for a few days so I will try on Monday. I'm interested to see how it plays with the sliders.

Be careful with lowering accel too much as that reduces the effect of fatigue on the players. In addition, at some point, there is a threshold that results in bursting (easily dribbling past players) because they cannot accelerate quick enough to make a play on the ball.

The higher sprint value is built to reduce the effect of jogging animation and also to allow non-controlled players to be more aware of the ball.

I understand Matt — and thanks for the great sliders, but I just hate the way players go from a standing start to full pelt in an instant in FIFA, always have. I think other people call it great responsiveness, but in real life that first movement takes a moment and is then so important. And lower ACC seems to be the only answer to this.

Right, which is why I put it at 48, because at 47 and below, the stamina is not affected and the bursting is very easy, even on Legendary. I'd rather not be able to burst past players more than anything.

At this point, it's all personal preference and sacrifices of what you want in the game. Which is why I created my adjustments.

Matt, id like to say thanks for the fantastic work on the sliders you have provided, but Iv tested your final sliders and found that it's easy to get past players and have also noticed a lot of gaps appearing in midfield as well as defenders tracking back at times, your previous sliders eliminates all that and I have reverted back to them cos they are really are great, those sliders make the gameplay feel like a real football match.
Also have noticed after this recent patch the players feel abit more loose not as stiff to control but in a good way.

That's one of the drawbacks about increasing line height. As you increase line height, it reduces the chance of players to track all the way back. Leave it to terrible programming that line height determines how far a player is going to track back to chase down the ball carrier.

On the other side of the coin is that the lower height makes crosses look less natural and almost back to FIFA 09 where the only way a ball will find the path of the oncoming runner in the box, is straight at their head versus in the path.

The bursting past players actually happens regardless of settings. I spent a good 12 hours on my stream a couple months ago only testing the prevention of bursting. No such luck. Had it on HUM/CPU Accel 50/100 and I could still burst past the CPU with ease. This is why there is an increase in marking, sprint and a decrease in acceleration. This again is just poor programming because the defending player will go in for the tackle too sharply, and a little wiggle of the analog stick will get you right past him.

Gaps in the midfield occur relevant to the formation, but yes, the gaps are created there so the proper expansion and compression of the pitch occurs like it does in real football. More space equals more room for error, because a more precise pass needs to be played, AND, there are more bodies in the way. The compression occurs with the line height and higher marking.

I'm glad one of the sets works, there are a lot more than just these final 2 of course. We did a lot, a lot, a lot, of testing. I hope FIFA 17 won't require as much as this 16 has, but I also don't want it to be an FUT glory machine either.

Anyone got some good recommendations for controls similar to PES (For online play too)? I'v tried messing around but nothing feels right.

Basically, EA have again listened to the community and improved those areas of the game that the community feedback indicated was required. By community, I obviously mean FUT players....offline players can eat shit as far as EA are concerned.

And they still haven't fixed la liga starting with game 2 in tournament mode.. Shame.
What I would like to have a mode, where in a season all games cup, league etc can be played without the carrier mode stuff..

This game constantly keeps going up another level for me, cannot praise this game enough, Iv been playing the premier league for a good 3 months now and today decided to have a friendly between two Argentinian sides, I was Boca and played estudiantes, in the premier league I'm used to it's fast and lot of counter attacking, in this game I played it was slow and tactical looking for gaps waiting for players to make runs, it felt so different compared to the premier, I was amazed as well in the individuality, certain players stood out, after playing Fifa extensively I can safely say and this is just my opinion, it's the new benchmark for footy games not the old Skool PES 5 and 6, for me Fifa 16 blows those games away, can't wait for E3 to see what Fifa has in store for its next game, I really hope they take it to the next level with CPU AI individuality, managers and tactics, finally the presentation matches the gameplay.
