FIFA 15 News & Discussion Thread

My disillusion grows with every video I watch. Impression after impression has implied lobbed through balls have been improved but video after video implies the opposite.

The whole experience looks vapid. Most years I can at least see a feature or two which I want to get my teeth into but this year... Gods the changes seem so minimal.

Thought FIFA 14 was criminally underrated, but the videos coming out look very disappointing so far.

However, the FIFA community has a knack of playing the game in the wankest possible way, so can't really gage much from video alones. The kick-off 'glitch' and tricks are ridiculously easy to defend against.

One change I want is for the defence to keep their position more. Constantly feels like you're fighting them back at every opportunity, and makes counter-attacks over effective.

The kick off glitch isn't that easy to defend against. If you don't play with an extremely deep backline (let's be honest and say that this is the cure for most of FIFA's defensive frailties), you have to cover a run blind. You will usually come out OKAY if you select a centre back and run him backwards.

For a very start, you have to know about manual player select. Should you really have to know advanced controls to not concede a free goal every time the ball is kicked off to one of the most inane tactics imaginable?

Regardless, the fact that the glitch is still in any way possible is what should be so concerning. It implies that lobbed through balls are still far too accurate, and far too effective. That would be unbelievable, given it was FIFA 14's #1 balance issue, if it wasn't for the fact that EA has been painfully negligent regarding balancing problems year after year.

At least single player looks slightly better, though I still worry about the AI not being improved enough and the ease of pulling off what ought to be very difficult passes. But if I was at all interested in multiplayer (and realistic football), I'd be pretty depressed.

The videos are so hit or miss. I've seen some decent ones for FIFA15 and plenty of terrible ones. Same with PES2015 although to a lesser extent. So much is dependent on who's playing the game or the AI level that it's difficult to form much of an opinion. That said, these videos often highlight the exploits and cheap tricks that the game allows, which can be worrying.

The good thing at least is that every year fifa looks like shit in these pre-release vids but then typically plays much better than expected, at least when it comes to single player.

For some strange reason it's the opposite with PES for me: I fall in love with the game pre-release only to be massively let down after release. Hopefully that'll be different this year.

Why am I finding this video more likable than Fifa 15's vids.

:ANX:

You're not the one... Seriously the whole game seems more balanced and not "too much" in terms of contacts, animations flow are more natural, with also models well proportioned, symmetrical, even it there isn't enough variety.

I think FIFA 11 was the last football game that really engrossed me. It had its flaws and frustrations, but I feel like each version since then has become more loose, open, clumsy and less satisfying.

What we saw was Fifa 11 on PC though. Was equivalent to Fifa 11 or 10 on consoles? I forgot.

Sorry for going a bit off topic.

FIFA 11 PC was identical to FIFA 10 PS3/360. Still remember those days, when the headline came up "FIFA 11 PC Goes Next Gen".

I played FIFA14 last night and it was a game that reminded me why Ive never "got" FIFA.

fifa15 looks more of the same to me. I know I wont like it but ill try to keep an open mind. Ill keep the pre-order and make my mind up whether to cancel after the demo.

Same. One thing about Fifa is you always get good resale value even after the games been out a while

I only started playing FIFA in 09 after the appalling PES09.

I have never really enjoyed Fifa. I love the presentation and the detail. Its unreal. But I've never enjoyed where it matters - on the pitch.

Im loathe to lay out £50+ on a game that hopefully I wont be playing any more after November if the "other game" is as good as its looking.

Dont forget beta is from FUT mode which always was diferent an arcadish mode where weird things happen.

No it's not. Some have a beta for UT. Others have a beta, for clubs, online seasons and other modes too. Different people were sent access to different parts of the game so it's not just UT.
Unless you are just talking about the video above?

I don't know why but this video doesn't look bad considering it's an UT game..

I kinda agree except the defensive AI - my biggest problem with 14 - is worrisome.

But it's a perfect example of two players bringing out the worst of the game, with neither having a clue how to defend, which then leaves massive space and allows for stupid easy goals. It's a game played by guys who just want to score goals and get the ball back asap rather than actually play football.

What's unfortunate - and you see it in the vids for both football games this year - is that the gameplay mechanics and AI make this style of play too effective, further encouraging players to not bother with realistic football, creating a vicious cycle.

Same things happen in pes. Have to accept that this is what sells to the masses

Watching two users spamming each other is destroying any potential excitement.

They need to give us the demo if this is out there and viewable so it can be judged better.
