FIFA 13

Saw Jay Bothroyd tweeting he's playing Fifa13 so I thought it was worth a try:

@jaybothroyd nice got mine yesterday, but what the hell did they do to Gary Madine's hair? :( Can you ask him to grow it like in Fifa please

The point system in Be A Pro seem pretty messed up. Made one bad pass and I went from 10.0 to 6.5 :/

EA have been a little sloppy with the squads this year, they are usually very good at that. But Hulk and Witzel still in Portugal, van Der Wiel still at Ajax, don't know if there are more.

About the speed, I really think Slow is really slow. I normally think Fifa is too fast but not this year.

Did you download the latest squads? Hulk is at Zenit here.

Ultimate Team is a buggy mess. Within 15 mins I've been kicked out four times now.

Just bought a bronze pack, kicked out 3 times and that's just in the time for me to browse the pack and decide what to do with the items.

Also the manager tasks aren't updating despite me getting XP for doing tasks, they're not being ticked off.

More below par testing from EA.

Had no crashes at all in Ultimate Team or Career. Notice a patch this morning and it's a mess. Just finished an Ultimate Team seasons match, it finishes but FUT isn't working as usual and it kicks me out to the main menu where it's saying I haven't even started the match.

I really want to play FUT but it's more of a chore than enjoyment knowing that it can crash out on any screen, or after 15 mins of playing a match for nothing.

My biggest issue is pressure in online.Like 2011, there is a high pressure game we have. When ı get the ball in midfield, 2-3 people running at me immediately. You dont have time to think..

Someone mentioned that H2H has the same problem as Clubs, in that you can select Legacy defending online.

Same happened last year then they patched it.

Hopefully it will improve soon.

2 bugs I have encountered this morning.

Online seasons, went to make a sub and could only manage the other guys team. Tried to put his reserve GK up front, but it didn't make the sub.

I also started a CM last night and cant load it this morning. It just freezes my xbox :(

Starting to wonder if it is my xbox on the way out.

The very start when I load up and the guy is saying EA sports its in the game, it shutters at that point.

Does this happen for anyone else?

Woohoo! Custom tactics are back! I genuinely think they must have disabled them for FIFA 11 and 12 because they now have some real effect again, much like when they first implemented them in FIFA 10.

I tried setting one team to have maxed out (ie. 100) fast and long build-up play, with high crossing and risky passing values and they very clearly played a long-ball game, with plenty of balls hoofed down the middle, down the flanks, crosses coming in, etc.

I set another team to be the complete opposite (ie. 0) and they played a very short game, and didn't play a single speculative long ball, keeping possession as best as they could. Particularly gratifying is that it was a League 2 team, and it didn't mean they played like Barcelona, with perfect passes and hours ppssession before the lost the ball. They made mistakes, had bad first touches, miscontrolled it, misplaced passes and frequently gave up possession (Professional level).

So far, after a handful of varied matches, my feeling is this is the best FIFA to date. Imo, FIFA 12 was the worst in the current series (since they got good in FIFA 08), and I wasn't expecting much, but it has been a pleasant surprise. The game feels more physical, and the impact engine does indeed feel a little more refined.

They've a lot of good things going on in that engine - shame it's too fast - I wish slow was about 15% slower and they gave 5 speed option, like PES.

And if they can add proper player momentum next year, then they'll have a much better game.

I am playing h2h not clubs:)) I think the reason of that pressure is higher defence ability of offensive players.Even strikers can take the ball easily. Also, is there a bug that let you play legacy defending online? It could be so annoying if it's true..

not tried xbox but PC version you can't select it in game it is greyed out.

and apparently clubs is forced to semi too

Can anyone who has bought the PC version let me know if you can just use the code that comes with the game to download it from Origin, or do you have to physically install it via the dvd? I took my dvd drive out of my pc ages ago as I'd stopped using it. I can put it back but I don't want to if I don't need to.

Also, would the dvd install just set up Origin anyway? Or can you avoid using Origin altogether by installing from the dvd?

It's hard to understate how great it is to hear that. I've felt so underwhelmed with football games in general for the last few years, the only games I've really enjoyed for any length of time was FIFA 09 and to some degree FIFA 10, but in it's totality next-gen has been a disaster for me personally. This game though is just such a rich experience, there is no other way to describe it, every little detail down to drop balls and seemless throw-ins and free-kicks has been included.

One of the biggest things the game has over it's rival is dynamic and realistic ball collisions, the way the ball bounces and ricochets off limbs and bodies makes it so satisfying to play, I love how a player like Tevez can bundle through multiple challenges but not just by resisting a stumbling animation as in PES, instead the defender will get something on the ball but Tevez will still manage to retain it or the defender will just bounce off him or get flattened by his sheer physical strength. Also, unlike previous FIFA titles you feel like there is actually a benefit to a player like Silva or Nasri, they can evade challenges via other means and shielding works much better than it has before, if you have your back to a defender now as long as you aren't dwelling on the ball you can hold someone off to buy time for support.

Fantastic news, so now we need someone to create 10-15 custom tactics to apply to the various teams :)
